Doing a round, and humming to herself, Dira mused that it was time to subject her crew to what Bob used to call her ‘musical moods’. As much as he teased her, she liked singing and wasn’t easily embarrassed. But so far with this ship she hadn’t done anything publicly like that at all and she was questioning why. It was definitely worth some self-reflection. Or more reflection, since after all, she had been doing a rather lot of it lately.

The humming caused NE Phyllis a little discomfort. The Chief Engineer had been very clear that she was not to intrude on anybody’s time in the area, but as she heard the humming, she realized that where she was was directly in the way, or at least incredibly noticeable. She hoped that the person humming would not be anybody of note; she had been barely doing her job, letting the task engage in automation right until her devices on hand showed that the Grouch had been correct. Automation wouldn’t have caught it remotely, and it had barely caught the calibration issue in person.

“How the… How did he know?” NE Phyllis said to herself, accidentally speaking out loud.

She looked around and still didn’t see whoever was humming, so she tried to hide herself by the nearest ficus. This would have been a poor plan in any case - she was, unlike her department head, incapable of blending in with the greenery - but she especially stood out because she was in uniform.

Dira stopped and turned, eyes casting themselves around, but she saw and heard nothing. Normally, without the suppressant, she’d know if someone was there. BUt after all her weird feelings and whispers of her name, she really was starting to wonder if she was starting to lose her mind, and given she was able to diagnose that, that put her even more on edge.

With a sigh, she concluded her lap and headed for the exit.

Commander Myqian, XO

The path he was on led him straight to the exit but made him only visible at the last moment, as the doors opened to let him go through them. He paused ever so briefly, timing it just right so that Dira would be able to get enough of a glimpse of his profile to make her wonder if she was seeing things or if she had in fact seen him. The confusion it would cause was delicious to his mind. Let her second guess herself. She knew there could be no way William Franks was here without her knowing, and yet…

Myqian stopped abruptly, a deep frown furrowing her undulating brow. She was seeing things. And hearing voices? By the goddesses, what was wrong with her? There was no way it was him. It had to be all the old grief and trauma that had been dug up lately. She knew as well as anyone that sometimes you created scenarios that would not otherwise happen.

His smirk returned as he walked through the exit and then he sped up. He needed to be down the corridor and ready for her to exit. Once she did, she would only get a glimpse of him turning down another corridor. Let her follow him just barely. It took timing, but he knew what he was listening for.

But… whomever it was was just so damn spot on. It couldn’t be, could it? Moving again, Dira’s long legs carried her out of the Arboretum and into the corridor. She saw the figure zip around the corner. They were certainly in a hurry and that was rather suspicious. Normally, she’d reach out her mind and sense the intention, but she couldn’t do that here. Decisions, decisions.

Moving swiftly again she didn’t run, but was certainly walking quickly as she rounded the corner to see if she could catch up with whomever it was. They could have a nice chat and she could laughingly tell him how he reminded her of someone she had worked with before. As XO mingling with the crew was all but written into her job description. It was a good enough excuse to ease her mind.

Commander Myqian, XO

Just as he planned, the short corridor was empty. The doorway to a small storage space was to the left. He slipped inside but did not allow the door to close until he could feel her about to turn the corner. The door would close, prompting her to investigate further. Then he would have her. Bill slipped back into the darkness and prepared his chloroform spray. While the chemical was an old trick used by kidnappers for ages, it was effective and useful. One spray to her face would knock her out. As soon as she would come into the door, he would have his chance and he would take it.

Commander William Franks

Dira turned the corner and frowned as she saw the open door close. It was one of those moments where she was regretting the neurosuppressant. But she knew she couldn’t always rely on her psi abilities. Yes, she had lived with them most of her life, but there were always going to be times when they weren’t accurate and useable at all. This was one of those times. All she could do was rely on her instincts and training and they were telling her that someone was behaving oddly and perhaps a friendly ear was needed. At least those skills were still ones she could rely on.

Inhaling a steady breath, she approached the room and stepped through the door as it slid open, her demeanour open and warm. She wanted whomever it was to know that they weren’t in trouble and all they needed to have was a quick conversation.

Commander Myqian, XO

Bill couldn’t help but grin when he saw the object of his desire walk through the door as it opened. He could just barely see her face via the dim lights of a console to her right. It wasn’t enough to see by, but enough to illuminate a bit of her face. The rest he could easily imagine into existence. He knew ever curve of her skin. She had fallen for his trap. Quickly he reached up and sprayed the chloroform into her face and reached to catch her falling body. Once he settled her down, he locked the door and returned to her to bind her to one of the ventilation shafts near one wall.

Commander William Franks

It was a fatal miscalculation and Dira knew that the moment she stepped into that room. She would never have been so careless if she could sense people the way she was used to. The chemicals that hit her face would normally require five minutes of persistent inhalation… on a Human. But Dira was not Human. The last thing her vision saw before it blurred and went back was the unmistakable face of the man she swore to herself couldn’t be here.

She went unconscious before she could even contemplate the hows and whys of the situation.

Ooc: first of all…I am in awe of the amazing writing and character development this thread has had. Wow you guys. Thank you so much. And secondly, without trying to sound too much like Jack sparrow…stop kidnapping people from off my ship!

Although NE Phyllis had tried to avoid any sort of interaction, she also decided to finish her task quickly. Although she had gained the realization that, in spite of his demeanor, her new Chief was not one to waste someone’s time. On the other hand, the fact that there was a minor glitch in the Arboretum on a new ship was not something that she liked. It was such a minor issue that it was probably just something that final inspection missed. It still made her wonder how many small things had been overlooked in order to get Starfleet’s newest Medical vessels in active service.

“Well, that’s a disaster averted,” she said to nobody in particular.

She had walked out just in time to see the XO walking toward a storage closet, and then to walk inside it. She thought that the door had closed behind Commander Myqian a little more quickly than it should have, as if someone had programmed it to close rapidly behind any entrant. She made a mental note to tell whatever engineer was on shift on the deck after her about it, because even if it was an impression instead of reality, she didn’t want to let go of a hunch only to be proven right. She didn’t want to question what the XO might be doing in the room - the Commander had walked around the Arboretum for a quick stroll without any reason. There must have been reasons, whatever they were, and Cascarrabias had given NE Phyllis a long list of duties for her shift.

She looked over them and said out loud, “How are there ten minor malfunctions in just three decks? Stupid final touches on mission…”

Phyllis walked right past the closed door and on to other duties, caught up in a flurry of irregularities so that the irregularity of the XO walking into a storage room barely registered as more out of the ordinary than anything else.

NE Phyllis, Engineering

Quickly, Bill ran the program from his PaDD that duplicated another NE’s signature on the ship as Dira so that anyone looking for her would find the NE and not Dira. Next he ran the second program that changed the storage room several doors down to always show no life signs. He had to call in several big favors in from nefarious Star Fleet Intelligence officers to get the programs. He might have even reduced himself to blackmail. He liked to think that he had the best of motivations and therefore breaking a few rules would be worth it.

At the end of the day, he was here to convince Dira to change her mind and come with him. Barring that.... well.... he would just have to convince her.

Once all the programs were working, he opened up the nearby jeffries tube and moved his cargo, closing the jeffries tube behind him. He didn’t want anyone stumbling upon him and Dira. Though space would be tight, it was vital that he was in a private place. The light was dim in the heavily insulated room. The insulation was for other purposes, but they would do for his own… keeping their conversation private. He had been clearing out the storage space for a week to make sure it would be easy to detain her and have space. Once in the small room, he tied her hands behind her back and to a pipe that would not easily break then tied her feet together.

Now he just had to wait.
