In the morning Dira was on the bridge expecting Willow to be joining her. They were supposed to have one of their regular meeting while tag-teaming n bridge duty and so when Taylor became thirty minutes late, Dira didn’t worry persay but she did turn to one of the other bridge crew. “Lieutenant J’lain, you have the conn,” she said, waiting only for the brief confirmation before heading into the ready room.

Safely ensconced in the office, Myqian tapped her combadge. =/\=Myqian to Taylor.=/\=

Willow groaned and brought a hand up to run her forehead. Her head ached. She lay a moment trying to work out what had woken her. As awareness came back she reached over for her comm badge and hit it.

=^= Taylor here…=^= she said somewhat sleepily. At the same time she picked up the time piece and glanced at it. Immediate panic set in, surely it couldn’t be right…her alarm…it hadn’t gone off. She sat up quickly, in a tangle of blankets and whirring limbs.

Somewhere, across the ship, GALEN alerted Brad to the fact that the captains heart rate and blood pressure had just shot upwards.

Brad smirked as he set a ten minute timer and put in an order for her preferred morning beverage.

Dira smiled despite the fact that Willow couldn’t see her. =/\=Just wanted to check in and make sure you’re okay. Either way, I’ve got things covered up here as long as you need me to. Lieutenant J’lain has the bridge and I am thinking I might work on reports here in your office. you now, just to confuse everyone and make them wonder if those rumours that I lead mutinies are true.=/\= Okay, she was outright smirking and trying to not laugh. But not at Willow. It was the first real moment where she felt like she had moved past all the crap that had gone down on the Calypso.

=^= Dira…my alarm didn’t sound I’m so sorry…Im on my way, I’m sorry this has never happened before. I…I…=^= she scrambled out of her bed, ankle pulling as it caught in the covers, sending her into a heap on the floor. A flare of pain shot through her foot and ankle in return as she tried to untie herself. I want to die! she thought. But couldn’t say that.

Dira heard the noise and was about to say something when Willow spoke again.

=^= GALEN, why didn’t my wake up sound?=^=

=^= Alarm was disabled by Doctor Walker.=^=

“WHAT!” She yelled, forgetting Dira was still on the line. “I’ll kill him!”

Willow Taylor
Angry

=/\=Ahhh, how about I run interference and you do what you need to do. I’ll be here. And Willow? Two things: one, everyone has days like this and in this case you have a very valid reason, and two, let’s steer away from homicide. I’m not sure my career could survive an accessory charge.=/\= She was concerned about her friend but in this moment Willow just needed a chance to sort things out in her own time. There was nothing urgent happening this morning, so no harm done. She could handle things. This was, after all, what being an XO was all about.

Commander Myqian, XO

Her face burnt with anger and embarrassment. She untied herself from the mess of blankets. =^= Thank you, and don’t worry I’ll make it look like a wild Selat got in!=^= she growled.

Pulling some leggings and a baggy jumper on Willow paused only long enough to run a brush through her hair and left the quarters. Limping on the pulled ankle she made a determined bee-line for the primary medical suite.

Once she arrived on the deck she stormed to Brad’s office and didn’t so much as pause to let the computer announce her entry.

“Are you kidding me!!!” She flared.

“Good morning, sunshine,” Brad said cheerfully, as if he also hadn’t been awake at 0130 the night before, and for that matter, hadn’t been in his own office for two hours already.

Her mouth opened and closed, her arms waving. She looked at the steaming mug and felt herself deflate slightly. “Sunshine?!”

He slid a warm mug across his desk to her, then paused as he noticed the slight limp.

“Ankle get caught in the sheets?” he asked.

Glancing down she mouths soundlessly again. “Well…yeah…Don’t change the subject! What the hell were you thinking?! I was supposed to be on the bridge, or the command Center or whatever it’s called on this ship!”

“I was thinking you needed to sleep,” Brad said. “You know just as well as I do that most of your time spent in that tacky chair is used to do things you could do just as well, if not better, elsewhere. Hell, outside of giving orders directly related to launching or mission or making any changes, you don’t need to be there at all. You’ve got a whole retinue of junior officers who actually want to spend time pretending to run the ship, it’s not going to kill you to take a little more time for yourself instead of running yourself ragged trying to spend a full eight hours watching Ensigns track stray comets when they’re not playing old Earth computer games on top of the actual administrative work of commanding a ship.”

He paused, with a little frown. “Honestly, I appreciate feeling the need to prove you deserve this post, but you have to think about yourself too. Command wouldn’t have given you the job if you didn’t deserve it, you have next to nothing to prove to people who by and large have more gold trim on their uniforms than they have functioning neurons in their grey matter.”
