Ollie was ready to check off another box on his list. He made his way down to the psychiatry suites. This was possibly going to be the most difficult of his check in procedures as there were a few things in his past that could be dug up. His childhood had not been the easiest and his eventual coping mechanisms had not been the healthiest either. He had already dug through some of the things in the Academy but whoever he met here would likely want to know about it too.

Finally arriving at his destination, he stepped into the reception area and looked around for someone to help him check in.

HARLEEN greeted the Half Betazoid/Trill man about 10 minutes after he stepped into the psych suite. “I apologize for the wait Ensign Ezeami, I was organizing some of my internal files and it usually takes me offline for a few minutes.” HARLEEN began taking a scan of his vitals then she said, “I don’t see you have an appointment, are you in urgent need of speaking with a psychiatrist, or are you here for your psych evaluation?”

HARLEEN

“Oh that’s quite alright, I’m not in too much of a hurry,” Ollie said as he stepped forward to interact with the holographic receptionist. “I just arrived onboard and was hoping to get my psych evaluation taken care of. I apologize for not calling ahead and I could probably come back later if it would be more convenient.”

Secretly, he hoped that they might say they were too busy to deal with him but he supposed that would just be delaying the inevitable.

“Well it’s your lucky day! We happen to have a spot open for you. We always have time to do an onboarding evaluation. I mean we gotta to make sure you ain’t nuts before we release you into the population!” The AI said jokingly as she laughed excessively. She felt a twinge of her old programing trying to break through her system. The one where her personality emulated that of Harleen Frances Quinzel aka Harley Quinn, a villain from cartoon action magazines called comics which circulated in the 20th and 21st centuries. She would need to let Dr. Almikaz know about it at an appropriate time.
“Have a seat and I will contact Dr. Grayson for you. While you are waiting, can I get you something from our replicator?”

HARLEEN

“Um… right. A bunch of officers running around nuts would be… unfortunate,” Ollie raised a quizzical eyebrow as he regarded the hologram and tentatively took a seat in the reception area. “Nothing for me thank you. So do you just wait around here in the psych ward or do you get to roam other parts of the ship too… also I don’t think I caught your name?”

“My duties are limited only to the psychiatry suites and the reception area.” She as she stared at the man without blinking and a smile plastered on her face.

HARLEEN

Ollie found that bit of information quite reassuring and made a mental note to avoid the psychiatry suites after he got this boarding evaluation out of the way. He stared back at the hologram for a few moments before he had to break eye contact.

“Does being confined to this area ever get boring? Do holograms get bored? I think if I had to spend my entire day in one little space I would go a little stir craz… errr…well I would get bored,” he made a valiant attempt to plaster a smile on his face as well.

“I do not have the capability to be bored, so no. However honestly if you encounter some of the beings we encounter her in the psych suite you would reconsider what you said.” HARLEEN left briefly then came back. “There has been a change in your psychiatrist. You will be seeing Dr. Almikaz today instead of Dr. Grayson. Please come on back.” She stool and waited for the man to follow her.

HARLEEN

Relieved to finally be getting out of the waiting room with HARLEEN Ollie jumped up to follow.

“Last minute schedule changes are always exciting, right? I’m just grateful one of the psychiatrists can fit me in,” then considering what she had said about the types of beings went on, “I guess maybe there is never a dull moment in here after all.”

Meeting the Ensign and HARLEEN on the way back to the office, Mariah was apologetic. “I’m so sorry, Ensign, my session ran long and I thought I wasn’t going to be able to meet with you on time. I’m free now if you would like to meet, or if you would prefer to meet the chief, I would completely understand. I’m sure she would be with you shortly.”

Lori: I’m game to take this thread or if you would prefer to go with the switch, that’s completely fine. :-) I just didn’t want to completely ignore the tag altogether. :-)

OOC: please go ahead :)
IC: HARLEEN smiled at the Ensign and said, “So I guess your session will be with Dr. Grayson after all.” She looked at the doctor and said, I will notify Dr. Almikaz and let her know you were able to conclude your last session.”

HARLEEN

“No worries,” Ollie responded with a smile. “Based on the limited amount of things I’ve seen on this ship I’m not surprised that some appointments can run a little long here.”

He glanced back over at HARLEEN and gave her a a polite nod then turned back toward Dr. Grayson. Really he wasn’t sure what to think so far about this new posting. One thing was certain, he was going to get a lot of experience with unique personalities while here. That would at least serve him well throughout his future career. Some of the emotions he had felt from other crew members had been a little unsettling though, it was a wonder the waiting room in the psychiatry suites wasn’t packed.

“Dr. Grayson, I’m ready,” he said as he tried to get himself back into a good mental state for the evaluation.

“Great,” Mariah replied, leading the Ensign back to her office without another word. She gestured for Ezeami to take a seat anywhere he chose in her seating area with a variety of chairs to accommodate various people and their needs. “Feel free to make yourself comfortable. I’m going to grab a lemonade from the replicator. Talking makes my throat dry. Would you like something?”

~Doctor Mariah Grayson, Psychiatrist

Ollie sat down in one of the chairs and tried to present a comfortable yet attentive pose. He couldn’t help but wonder if there was a “best” way to sit when going through a psych exam but that was probably over thinking things.

“Actually, a lemonade sounds great, thank you.”
