Frigga was pacing and whining by the door of the arboretum. Something was wrong and agitating her. No one noticed because no one was there to work with her. Frigga didn’t know it, but someone was supposed to be there, but there was an emergency on the ship. GALEN wasn’t instructed to take her anywhere, and so the pup whined and paced. Her canine instincts told her someone was in trouble, though Frigga only recognized that it made her anxious not the why’s though.

With no direction or instruction Frigga suddenly tore out of the Arboretum racing about the deck looking for someone she knew. GALEN’s voice following in spurts. =/\=Frigga you must return to the arboretum.=/\= Whistles only the dog could hear encouraged her to follow but Frigga for the first time ignored them. GALEN continued to order her to return and stop running around. Anyone near by might have found it comical as the AI tried to reason with the canine.

Frigga picked up a sent of distress and confusion, and an odd faint smell that made her sneeze. And....well Frigga wouldn’t know it was called ‘obsession’ but it smelled, but not exactly, like that bad man that scared her mom, and the steak keeper made go away. She followed it to a door, but it wouldn’t open to her combadge. She scrapped at the door and dug at the flooring to no avail. She started running up and down the corridor barking. Finding someone she would bark once, run back the way she came and bark again, but no one would follow her.

“Well, to be honest, not much.” He shrugged. “Of course I have a medical kit here with me and my trusty PaDD. Now, on the shuttle.... that is another matter. I have garnered plenty of supplies for our immediate departure and some weeks thereafter. I have loaded up an emergency shelter too. I think that will be plenty for now until we find where we want to get settled.”

He looked up at the love of his life and smiled warmly. “I have even thought of several locations we could go away to. Each is more beautiful than the last. I cannot wait to show you.” Then his smile faded, as he remembered he was supposed to be doing something. Oh yes, setting up the site to site transport code that he had gotten from an old Section 66 friend of the family.

Haven, CoS

As his attention was pulled back to his task, Dira knew that time was once again not on her side. Her heart was still racing after her panic attack, but she was focused on breathing evenly. If she was going to do anything, she would have to do it soon. She began to work her wrists again, trying to see if there was even the slightest chance she could slip out. The pain of her deepening abrasions told her no, but she focused on the pain for a moment, gathering it up into a little mental ball and tucked it deep down. Of course, a large burst of pain would break the focus, but she would deal with that if it came to it. For now, she just kept working, a plan forming in her head.

Suddenly the ship shook, surprising Dira with a jolt, the cold pack slipping from her neck, and she could hear the tell-tale red alert from out in the corridor. What the hell was that? She gaze snapped to Franks. He had just caused the explosion, hadn’t he? Potentially harming her crew. Oh, hell no, this was not happening.

William looked as if the blast and resulting shaking and red alert had not fazed him in the slightest because… it hadn’t. He had been expecting this to happen and had not cared one whit that someone might get hurt by his simple yet quite effective booby trap. Innocuous chemicals when mixed together could do some terrible damage. He sat typing away on his PaDD, continuing to set up their transport which he had full confidence would work.

Rage flooded her body in a way she had never experienced before and her it coincided with the formulation of a plan to get herself out of this mess. She wanted desperately to believe that her message to Zoi had gotten through, that someone knew she was missing, that they were coming for her. But any moment now she knew William would beam her out of this hellish little room and if no one knew to stop him, they would be potentially gone. She would disappear. But the sickening reality of being imprisoned with him for the rest of life, forced to play out the adoring partner and mother to his children was nothing compared to the unforgivable act of causing harm to her ship and crew against every oath they had sworn as Starfleet officers.

This. Ended. Now.

Dira was tall and her legs were long. But she had kept them bent with her bound booted feet on the floor- it had kept her stable. And he was still sitting near her after her panic attack. He was still focused on that damn PADD. One shot, that was all she had. And she’d have to simultaneously cause herself intense pain in order to make use of the moment.

Internally gathering up all her anger, Dira swiftly pulled back her legs, tightening her core hard to keep herself upright, and drove the heels of her duty boots right towards William’s head. At the same time, she used that forward momentum to wrench on her left wrist as she twisted it and felt the joint shift, at least partially dislocating it. She cried out with pain and her head swam with pain and endorphins as she tried to slip her hand out of the tight binding that kept her stuck against whatever pipe was behind.

Like in many things, William underestimated Dira. He was so focused in his plan and the tools he had purchased to do his will in kidnapping her and running away with her, that he had not remotely considered her reaction would be strong enough to harm herself to strike him in anger. Thus the completely unexpected kick landed with a solid crunch and he collapsed witless, disoriented, and in extreme pain. He didn’t even have the capacity within his spinning head to think to ask why Dira might have done such a thing.

The smell was stronger the next time she returned and she whined anxiously digging at the door again. She barked again, loudly several time. =/\=Frigga, do stop that noise. You must follow the whistle. Frigga return to the arboretum.=/\= GALEN’s AI was unequipped to deal with the instincts and anxiousness of the canine.

Despite the waves of pain, Dira willed herself to focus. She had no idea if he would be able to stop her so she needed to act quickly. With one more twist and pull of her already bleeding wrist, it came free and she was able to shake off the binding which she could now see was optical cabling that had tied to the pipe. Flexing her intact right wrist she set about trying to undo her ankles, but between the tight knot and the pain, she was struggling. With a growl of frustration, she just gave up and unzipped her boots, chucking them to the side, her ebony eyes occasionally checking to see if he was recovering. She could see the blood from what was probably a broken nose in the very least.

Working the cable, she managed to slip it over one heel and pull a foot out and then the other and tossed it to the side. But as she tried to move, dizziness from the pain swam over her. Her heart was beating way too fast, too hard and it hurt. But she was too close now to give up. As she forced herself to stand up, her left arm hung weirdly and she knew that the shoulder was dislocated too. Fantastic. But she pulled her arm against her with a small grunt of pain and forced her feet to move towards him, swiping the padd and stuffing it down inside the front of her uniform. No way she was letting him escape using it. Now it was time to get out of here and she moved forward towards an open space. The dim room made it hard to see how much her vision was already spotty, but she was determined. But something stopped her briefly and she looked back at pitiful man she loathed with every part of her being. “You F!$%ing bastard! I hope you rot in whatever institution they toss your deluded sorry ass into!”

Dira looked around and couldn’t see a way out. Tears filled her eyes but she swallowed down her fear and began to hunt more. Then she saw the jefferies tube access. That must be how he got her here. Also probably why her body ached so badly. She crouched, vertigo making everything spin for a moment, and pulled off the cover, braced herself for the inevitable pain and crawled in.

Her words failed at first to make their way into his pain addled brain but when they finally did it took a while for him to react. How could his love feel this way? Had he so misjudged her? No. She had loved him, he was sure of it. It was these people, this crew, Star Fleet. He could be angry with her for being so fair weather and not giving them a chance, but his true anger was with anyone that kept him from his love and the vision of the life he wanted with her.... he deserved with her.

With only three working limbs, to say it was a struggle to move through the space was an understatement. But it didn’t take long for her to see a location marker and not for the first time was she extremely grateful for her careful study of the ship and all her roaming. He hadn’t taken her very far at all. She was certain she was near that room she had followed him into. It spurred her on.

It was taking forever but with each metre of space she put between her and William Franks, the more she felt like she might actually survive this. The hatch drew closer as she found a way to perfect her forward motion, pushing her body forward and swinging her right arm back with force so that her body was propelled forward. Yes her right hand landed hard on the tube’s surface but at this point it was white noise compared to her need to escape.

Scrabble, bark, run to find someone, return, repeat.

Finally she reached the hatch and pulled it open, all but falling out into the room. Lying in a heap, she just took a moment to breathe. Almost there. She pushed herself to a sitting position and then to her feet, her right hand stinging still from the constant impact. At last this room looked more normal, though she saw the discarded hypo he had used on her and stooped to pick it up, stuffing it in her pocket. They might need that to figure out whatever he dosed her with and if that was causing her heart rate issues. The beat had become too fast and it wasn’t helping issues. If she was actually tachycardic, then she was going to pass out sooner rather than later. Well that or the pain would get her. As it was, her vision was starting to get spotty.

Moving to the door as quickly as she could, Dira watched it slide open and she almost smiled. Freedom. She stepped out into the corridor on Deck 9A.

And then fell to the deck unconscious.

Frigga had taken off around the corridor again, GALEN’s voice continuing to follow her. She appeared, full tilt from the opposite direction she had run and spotted Dira on the floor. Her scent was familiar, she liked this woman. She skidded to a halt beside her and sniffed, and sneezed. She smelled weird like that stuff she picked up earlier. She whined and nosed at Dira and then barked loudly three times and sat down to wait. No one showed right away. Frigga laid down next to her, her body laying over Dira’s and licked at the bruised wrists. The smell of the man she didn’t like, similar but not quite, was stronger with the door open and Frigga watched the door as she lay there.

Hearing movement down the corridor Frigga barked again, loudly and rapidly.

Frigga

The dog couldn’t have known her wrist was dislocated, so the wave of pain from the licking swept over Dira and registered on her mind. She moaned, her eyes fluttering. She was on the deck and everything hurt. Pain meant she was alive. That much she understood. But it was harder for her to focus enough to open her eyes but she tried.

It was the soft fur against her skin that allowed her mind to make the connection. “Frigga,” she croaked. “Good girl,” she said, sleepily, her awareness fading in and out. A part of her wanted to tell the canine to go find help, but if her strike at Franks didn’t keep him down long enough, he’d come after her and she knew the dog would protect her exactly as she was doing now.

He blinked repeatedly, trying to clear his mind. Crouched in pain, he could not believe his plans were going so sideways. How could she give up on them so easily? It was then that he noticed his PaDD was gone. A frantic search in the dim light confirmed his initial observation. She must have it. Now, she was working with these people to keep his plan from succeeding? He screamed loudly in rage, scratching his throat with the vehemence of it. He would deal with her insolence later. Right now, he needed to get back on track. His broken nose hurt, his head hurt, but nothing would keep him from finishing what he started. Swifter than Dira would like, he was moving through the jeffries tubes. Anger and pain made his face almost purple, and spittle dripped down his mouth.

They would all feel his wrath and he would relish their screams.

William Franks
