Kane looked confused for a second and then shrugged. He picked up a nearby PaDD and pulled out the stylus and started drawing. “Never met him directly, of course. He was a bio-engineered super-human. Smarter, stronger, faster… and hell bent on taking down the Federation for whatever reason. He destroyed the USS Vengence and Enterprise. Damn near dropped the Enterprise on Star Fleet HQ in San Francisco, but still managed to hit the city. Official story is he was killed when that ship went down. Rumors, of course, say that wasn’t the case. Said he was put in some kinda stasis with a bunch of others like him. Here, this is what he looked like.” and he flipped the PaDD around to reveal a picture.

Kane

So his Khan and the one she knew sounded about the same. “Why would they think you’d be like Khan?” The original notes in his file indicated a strong desire to protect those that couldn’t protect themselves. That alone set him apart from the eugenics-minded sociopath.

Commander Myqian, XO

“Who the f@<k knows?” Kane responded. “But they asked me a lot about the Khan from the other universe. Hell, they even spent a good few months running every test they could to make sure I wasn’t a Eugenic. The one here must done a number on you guys, too.” and he chuckled. “Kept asking me about some Terran Empire crap, too. Never heard of it, but they wanted to make sure I didn’t work for them or something. I dunno. They pulled every boogey-man you all got here and tried to tie me to ‘em.” and he shook his head in frustration. “And of course they couldn’t, but that didn’t change the way they think about me.”

Kane

“Khan here was a large part of why genetic alterations outside of specific medically necessary treatments have been banned in the Federation, and we’ve had some rather… unpleasant interference from those in what is dubbed the Mirror Universe. The Terran Empire… well, imagine what Humanity might be life if the Nazis had won World War Two and that will give you an idea about what that reality is like. Their initial worries might have been justified and we both know they had to do their due-diligence, but after that?” Dira leaned forward. “It’s not your fault that you are here. You’ve done nothing wrong and you deserve to have the opportunity to carve your path. I’m not sure how much I or Captain Taylor can do to encourage them to let you do exactly that, but… I have an idea.”

Myqian considered the options for a moment before nodding to herself. “I can’t just wipe away the requirement for these sessions, but what if we ‘graduate’ you? And by that I mean, we push the frequency to a longer duration each time, meeting for sure after any large life-changing event. That might satisfy their need to know you’re not morphing into something they worry about and we can move you towards a standard eval schedule. If we try to do it all at once., someone will flag it. But a progressive change? Might fly under their radar.”

Commander Myqian, XO

Kane scowled 8n thought for some time and then nodded his head. “You know, that would work. I think that’s why I’m so pissed off having to this. Therapy isn’t bad… but this hasn’t been therapy. It’s been manipulation. And its been inconsistent and pointless. Because none of the Counselors ah e had the goal of helping. They were just ticking a box. Especially the last time. I guess I’m just tired of being a thing… not a person.”

Kane

Dira nodded, his frustration evident even without her abilities. “Okay then, then that’s what we’ll do. We’ll meet again in one month, but after that we’ll go a longer stint. And if anything big changes in the interim, like, oh say you find yourself getting married, let’s meet again to at least touch base, alright?” she said. Whether it was a big deal or not, marriage was still a life change and normally she’d say entering into any long-term commitment would be a good time to evaluate where you were at, but in this case she knew that the situation came with added family complications even if Bonner hadn’t shared all the details.

Commander Myqian, XO

Kane smiled slightly and said “Marriage or murder. Although the odds are good for both.” and he took a breath. “Ok… so are we good?” he asked. “At least for a month?”
