The sounds made her turn and look back and she could see his form. Dira’s heart rate leapt and her heart was suddenly beating hard in her chest. She could feel pressure in her lower chest and it made her catch her breath. Moving a bit faster, she felt dizzy again, panting as she moved farther along the deck. Even though she was certain she had injured him pretty badly, she knew her own body was in a state of shock from both the injuries and her deep fear. He was too close and she still had a good fifty metres to go. But she also knew that if he caught up to her, even if in his mind he wanted to protect her and get her to safety, his delusion wouldn’t allow him to see that he was harming her in the process and if it came down to a fight, he’d probably kill her even if it was by accident. Or maybe not. Maybe she’d pissed him off so badly he couldn’t even process a scenario where he let her get away with however he saw her resistance.

Everything spun and Dira had to pause, her hand sliding along the wall but slowly arcing downwards. She didn’t even realize what was happening until one knee hit the deck and she all but slumped against the wall. She had to keep moving, but she just couldn’t. Help, Zoi!* she thought, focusing what mental energy she could, despite her negated abilities. If she had been a bit more cognizant and in less pain, she’d have bene able to itemize her symptoms and realize that it wasn’t just the adrenaline and dislocated shoulder and wrist that she was struggling with. It was her heart. She’d been having these symptoms on and off and she knew that whatever he had dosed her with was affecting her badly, but until someone found her and analyzed the hypo stashed in her pocket, there was noway to know what it was. At least she still had the PADD secreted away, but if he got to her, he’d eventually find it and then it would be over.

One way or another Dira had a brief thought wondering if this was how it was all going to end. If it wasn’t William himself, it would be her heart.

Commander Myqian, XO

Frigga backed up, wedged tightly against Myqian, blocking as much of the woman with her body as possible (which wasn’t much, Frigga was only a medium sized dog after all). She stopped trying to get Myqian to move. Frigga’s sense of smell and hearing told her the woman was in extreme distress.

The sensation of the canine next to her was reassuring and for a moment just focused on breathing as slowly and evenly as she could, despite the panic. She let herself sit on the deck, knowing she was protected.

While in in the elevator Surra got a ping on her PaDD. She looked at Zoi and said, “It looks like Oscar narrowed the location down to the maintenance room. There was recent activity there, we better check it out.” She held up her phaser, it had been a while since she had to use one but she was well acclimated to how to use it. She set it to stun for now. As the elevator came to a stop, the doors opened Surra said, “After you. I will watch your six. Let’s go get your girl…er I mean the Commander!” They cautiously made their way down the corridor toward the maintenance room. Surra keep watch for any surprises behind them.

Almikaz, CoP

Just as Zoi was stepping out of the Turbo lift, she felt the connection to Dira and the surge of emotion was panic, fear, pain and desperation. She stiffened for a moment and then, her movements like liquid, she shot down the corridor. “This way Almikaz!” =/\= Medical emergency Arboretum entrance! =/\= Her phaser was already in her hand, ready to shoot. She knew exactly where Dira was and as she rounded the corner, she tore past Dira, blocking the woman with her body as she took aim and shot at the man she KNEW was not a crew member.

Surra followed Zoi’s lead.

Unable to sense still, Dira was surprised to see someone race past but ever so grateful. Looking up, she was still dizzy but could tell it was Zoi.

Even if she hadn’t known the face of every single crew member on her ship, she would have known him to be an outsider. His emotions were turbulent and angry.

Finally someone was coming and Frigga barked to get their attention, but they just ran right by her. She barked again and again. How could these crazy humans miss her and her sick friend?? Almost immediately Frigga saw the phasers and began to growl again. She didn’t like phasers and she didn’t trust people who carried them. She backed up standing over Myqian, hair bristled.

William barely had time to register the blond woman coming around the corner like a valkyrie and with murder on her face. He didn’t have time to turn and run or even drop to the floor. There was no dodging the phaser blasts that came his way. He didn’t have time to shout or scream or rage. He simply dropped, stunned both in body and mind. How could it have gone so wrong?

Haven, CoS

Surra did not fire her phaser instead, she placed her hands out to calm the dog that was guarding Dira.

The man went down and that calmed the dog a bit, but she started to bark again, both a warning and an attempt to get the attention of someone to help her friend. The problem was she didn’t know either of the women who came down the corridor and they were both holding phasers. Frigga wasn’t letting them anywhere near Myqian with one of those things.

Frigga

“How do we calm, Frigga.” Surra asked. “I can’t get close enough to Dira to check her condition.”

A few minutes after the emergency call went out, Solal rushed in, medical kit in hand, and quickly surveyed the area. He focused in on Bonner’s dog, Frigga. After his conversation with Bonner, he’d done Frigga’s training program. He recognized the behavior as alert barking. And then he saw who she was standing over. The XO.

Heading over, he called to Frigga. “Quiet.” Then, moving by her, he patted her side gently, “Release.” He kneeled by Myquin’s side, his demeanor calm and collected. “Side. Wait.” Two more commands to the dog, to keep her out of the way and in a swift motion, his med kit was open and tricorder in hand, taking cursory scans.

Sitting against the wall without boots on her feet, Dira face was streaked with tears.

Scans would reveal not only the obvious partial dislocation of her left shoulder, but there was damage also to the various soft tissues around both shoulder joints that could only have come from having her arms pulled tight behind her for long periods of time. Her wrists had abrasions from being bound and Dira had clearly tried to get herself free as evidenced by the cut on her left wrist. The subluxation of that same wrist was complete and had to have occurred by a very sharp wrenching motion and it probably happened at the same time as the narrow laceration from the binding.

There were also various contusions along the posterior side of her body.

More worrisome however was that Dira’s cardiovascular system was seriously stressed and her resting heart rate was currently 142 beats per minute. In addition to the remnant of the last neurosuppressant dose she had been prescribed, her tox screen showed traces of a chemical called chloroform, which on her mixed biology had bound with her electrolytes and was causing improper heart function. Combined with her exertion and the stress from her escape, the readings were showing the beginning of ventricular tachycardia and she was at risk for cardiac arrest.

“It’s William… Franks. He’ll… kill you, to get to me,” Dira said, the dizziness making her close her eyes.

Commander Myqian, XO

Surra didn’t touch the Commander and she was careful not to get in Dr. Solal’s way either. However she did kneel close to Dira and said, “It’s okay, Dira,” said Surra. “He is down and he can’t hurt you anymore. You are safe now. Solal is going to get you to sickbay so you can be properly tended to.”

Almikaz, CoP

Dira nodded, though it was apparent she didn’t quite believe Surra. She cast a furtive glance towards Zoi and William as she struggled to breathe and see. “Don’t let him hurt her,” she whispered.

Commander Myqian, XO

She turned her head toward Lieutenant Commander Zoi, she knew the man was not threat as Haven had taken him down with her phaser. However she wanted to acknowledge Dira’s concern knowing she had been through quite an ordeal and may not yet trust the outcome of the situation. “Lieutenant Commander Zoi, I take it that Mr Franks is secure and is no longer a threat?” Surra asked, mostly to provide some kind of assurance for Dira.
She then held her hands up so Dira could see them and said, “I am going to help Lieutenant Segal render aid, okay?” Then she grabbed, blanket, placed it over her. “I will be here as long as you want me to be?” Surra then grabbed a tricorder and began scanning her checking her vitals to make sure she wasn’t going into any kind of shock. “It would probably be best if we can get her out of here as soon as possible. Who knows what he did to her in here.” She advised Lieutenant Segal. Something traumatic had happened to the Commander, she was sure of it, but she had no idea the extent of it.

Almikaz, CoP

Solal glanced up to Surra, eyebrow raised. “Emergency procedures are quite familiar to me, Lieutenant Almikaz. I cannot move her before she is stabilized. I understand you and the Commander are friends and she may like your presence, however, I request you move back and allow me to do my job.” He set a medkit on the ground and in a moment it was open and there was a hypo in his hand. His movements were swift and calm. Emotion did not color his tone.

The first hypo contained a beta blocker, to stabilize the irregular rhythms of the patient’s heart. Yes, this was the commander, but right now, she was a patient. Solal’s work would be better if he remained detached, thinking of her as no different than anyone else he’d treated. A second hypo was administered, an anti inflammatory with a weak pain med. He could not set the shoulder and the wrist here. The priority was the heart and for that, he needed her in sickbay. But the hypo took little time to give and would relieve some of the pain those injuries caused.

When he was finished, he snapped closed the med kit. “I will now be transferring the commander to sickbay. Once she is fully stabilized, you are invited to come and visit with her.” Then he spoke to the ship’s interface: “GALEN, I need an emergency transport directly to sickbay, two to transport.” In a moment, they disappeared as they were transported away.
