Surra did not fire her phaser instead, she placed her hands out to calm the dog that was guarding Dira.

The man went down and that calmed the dog a bit, but she started to bark again, both a warning and an attempt to get the attention of someone to help her friend. The problem was she didn’t know either of the women who came down the corridor and they were both holding phasers. Frigga wasn’t letting them anywhere near Myqian with one of those things.

Frigga

“How do we calm, Frigga.” Surra asked. “I can’t get close enough to Dira to check her condition.”

A few minutes after the emergency call went out, Solal rushed in, medical kit in hand, and quickly surveyed the area. He focused in on Bonner’s dog, Frigga. After his conversation with Bonner, he’d done Frigga’s training program. He recognized the behavior as alert barking. And then he saw who she was standing over. The XO.

Heading over, he called to Frigga. “Quiet.” Then, moving by her, he patted her side gently, “Release.” He kneeled by Myquin’s side, his demeanor calm and collected. “Side. Wait.” Two more commands to the dog, to keep her out of the way and in a swift motion, his med kit was open and tricorder in hand, taking cursory scans.

Zoi heard the Doctor giving Frigga commands that enabled him to begin working on Dira. As much as Zoi wished she could be there, she knew she would just be in the way. She was the Chief of Security, not the Chief of Medicine on this ship. She had to trust that the medical staff on the ship knew how to do their jobs and would do them to the best of their abilities. It almost physically hurt to trust someone with Dira’s life while she had to do her job and restrain the stranger.

Sitting against the wall without boots on her feet, Dira face was streaked with tears.

Scans would reveal not only the obvious partial dislocation of her left shoulder, but there was damage also to the various soft tissues around both shoulder joints that could only have come from having her arms pulled tight behind her for long periods of time. Her wrists had abrasions from being bound and Dira had clearly tried to get herself free as evidenced by the cut on her left wrist. The subluxation of that same wrist was complete and had to have occurred by a very sharp wrenching motion and it probably happened at the same time as the narrow laceration from the binding.

There were also various contusions along the posterior side of her body.

More worrisome however was that Dira’s cardiovascular system was seriously stressed and her resting heart rate was currently 142 beats per minute. In addition to the remnant of the last neurosuppressant dose she had been prescribed, her tox screen showed traces of a chemical called chloroform, which on her mixed biology had bound with her electrolytes and was causing improper heart function. Combined with her exertion and the stress from her escape, the readings were showing the beginning of ventricular tachycardia and she was at risk for cardiac arrest.

“It’s William… Franks. He’ll… kill you, to get to me,” Dira said, the dizziness making her close her eyes.

Commander Myqian, XO

Surra didn’t touch the Commander and she was careful not to get in Dr. Solal’s way either. However she did kneel close to Dira and said, “It’s okay, Dira,” said Surra. “He is down and he can’t hurt you anymore. You are safe now. Solal is going to get you to sickbay so you can be properly tended to.”

Almikaz, CoP

Dira nodded, though it was apparent she didn’t quite believe Surra. She cast a furtive glance towards Zoi and William as she struggled to breathe and see. “Don’t let him hurt her,” she whispered.

Commander Myqian, XO

She turned her head toward Lieutenant Commander Zoi, she knew the man was not threat as Haven had taken him down with her phaser. However she wanted to acknowledge Dira’s concern knowing she had been through quite an ordeal and may not yet trust the outcome of the situation. “Lieutenant Commander Zoi, I take it that Mr Franks is secure and is no longer a threat?” Surra asked, mostly to provide some kind of assurance for Dira.

“I wouldn’t worry about me. Worry about him.” She said, her tone thunderous and full of malice as she checked the man for weapons, devices, or chemicals. She took off his fraudulent comm badge and set him up for transport to the Brig.

Haven’s obvious aggression agitated the dog and her hackles raised. Haven’s scent was all over her charge so Frigga deemed her safe and important. Despite Solal telling her to wait the woman was approaching the evil man and she left Solal and moved toward the man and Haven. She growled quietly. The man stunk of wrongness. He took a longer breath and Frigga snarled in warning. After Haven had him secured Frigga trotted happily back over to Dira, laid down and gently licked her fingers.

Surra nodded, then turned back to Dira then said, “See Lieutenant Commander Haven has him restrained.”

Dizzy and with blurred vision, Dira couldn’t see Zoi clearly, but even with her suppressed abilities she knew her partner was there by the familiar shape of her body. She could se Frigga close by more clearly and the dog’s presence, even if they weren’t in contact, was reassuring.

Frigga’s eyes darted back and forth from Dira to Solal waiting for permission to love all over her friend. She was hurting and upset and Frigga wanted to help. She was good at helping.

She then held her hands up so Dira could see them and said, “I am going to help Lieutenant Segal render aid, okay?” Then she grabbed, blanket, placed it over her. “I will be here as long as you want me to be?” Surra then grabbed a tricorder and began scanning her checking her vitals to make sure she wasn’t going into any kind of shock. “It would probably be best if we can get her out of here as soon as possible. Who knows what he did to her in here.” She advised Lieutenant Segal. Something traumatic had happened to the Commander, she was sure of it, but she had no idea the extent of it.

Almikaz, CoP

She nodded to Surra, wanting to thank the woman in the moment but unable to as she worked to secure the new prisoner. William Franks. The name brought a conversation to mind about Dira’s former ship and the man who had been her patient. He had become infatuated with her to the point where she had had to remove him as a patient. Zoi looked down at the man with disgust. He had followed her here.

Solal glanced up to Surra, eyebrow raised. “Emergency procedures are quite familiar to me, Lieutenant Almikaz. I cannot move her before she is stabilized. I understand you and the Commander are friends and she may like your presence, however, I request you move back and allow me to do my job.” He set a medkit on the ground and in a moment it was open and there was a hypo in his hand. His movements were swift and calm. Emotion did not color his tone.

“Of course, Doctor. It is not my intention to interfere.” She moved off to the side as he worked on the Commander.

Voices sounded around her, but Dira ceased being aware of them. It was all too much and it she was in so much pain that it was just easier to let her mind be elsewhere right now.

The first hypo contained a beta blocker, to stabilize the irregular rhythms of the patient’s heart. Yes, this was the commander, but right now, she was a patient. Solal’s work would be better if he remained detached, thinking of her as no different than anyone else he’d treated. A second hypo was administered, an anti inflammatory with a weak pain med. He could not set the shoulder and the wrist here. The priority was the heart and for that, he needed her in sickbay. But the hypo took little time to give and would relieve some of the pain those injuries caused.

When he was finished, he snapped closed the med kit. “I will now be transferring the commander to sickbay. Once she is fully stabilized, you are invited to come and visit with her.” Then he spoke to the ship’s interface: “GALEN, I need an emergency transport directly to sickbay, two to transport.” In a moment, they disappeared as they were transported away.

Before they left she gave Dira a warm reassuring pat and said, “We are getting you out of here. I will stop by sickbay to check on you later.”

As the man disappeared, she turned to Surra. “Thank you for backing me up there and for keeping her company until medical could arrive. I assume you will be going to Sickbay in a bit to visit?”

“Yes, I will go and check on her and to see if she needs anything outside of the medical care she will be receiving.”

“If so,” Zoi allowed herself to show some of the distress she felt inside. Tears stung her eyes though she did not let them fall. Now that Franks was secured, she could feel it just a bit. “Will you tell her I will come when I can? I need to figure out what subroutines have been compromised, if there are any more booby traps on board, and how he managed to do everything. I am afraid it will be some time before I can get there and I don’t,” She took a shuddering breath and closed her eyes for a moment. When she opened them back up, she was more steady. “I do not want her to wake up and wonder.”

Haven, CoS

Surra couldn’t help but place a reassuring hand on her shoulder as she saw the emotion. She could tell how important Dira was to her without the words. “I will give her your message and I am sure she will understand why you cannot be by her side immediately. Zoi, I am not sure what Mr. Franks did to the Dira while she was held captive, but I want you to know that you saved her for any further damage he could have done. If you hadn’t been persistent in finding her, I am afraid her situation would gave been far worse. I will make sure she knows that you analyze and searched every part of this ship till you found out where she was.”

Dira and Solal had disappeared in those weird swirly lights. Frigga stood up and looked around and padded over to the woman who smelled like Dira. She nosed Haven’s hand gently to reassure her. Then when the man disappeared in those weird lights she barked happily 3 times in a row, as if telling the two women they had done a good job.

“FRIGGA I MUST INSIST YOU STOP THAT NOISE. YOU MUST NOT KEEP BARKING.” The AI, GALEN, sounded oddly annoyed with the dog. Frigga barked once more as if to tell GALEN he was dense.
