Kane waited until the door was closed and then turned and looked at Alexis. “Now… tell me whats really on your mind. Hannah’s message threw you a bit, huh?”

Kane

Alexis nodded with a sigh. “Hannah is the sweetest, most caring person I know. I know life isn’t fair, but it’s just…wrong. Hannah waited five years for him to come back, and now he’s gone. Hannah said she’s lonely in ways she can’t describe. She asked how over the top my mom went with our wedding. I know my mother is being very petty, but it just makes me more angry now. Because if anyone deserves to be bitter right now, it’s Hannah, and she’s not. Instead she told me she’s hapoy for me and to not to think so much about things. That way I don’t have regrets like she does.” Alexis just looked him in the eye.

Bonner

“Ok… I can see that.” Kane said slowly and thoughtfully. “So what do you think you should do? You aren’t ever going to not think about things… or even overthink things. But that doesn’t matter, because that is you. And ‘you’ is just fine as you are.” He reached and took her hand. “Do you think you have regrets? Or think that you will?”

Kane

Alexis shook her head, “Hannah didn’t mean I’m not fine being me. Hannah isn’t like that.” Alexis stated at their hands as her finger curled around his palm. His heavily tattooed and hers glaringly blank in comparison. Holding his hand always made her feel warm. She raised her eyes to his green ones. “The whole premise of a regret is the idea that one would go back and change their actions. I can’t time travel, so I can’t change anything.” Maybe she did have some regrets especially when it came to Soulis or her mother, but that was a pointless exercise. “The best course of action is to learn from it and given similar circumstances, try and do better.”

“Hannah said that they were happy, content to simply be together, to not force things, to just be. That they would let things happen if and when they did. But now she regrets they didn’t do or talk about certain things and now they never will.” Her fingers trailed over the flames of the funeral pyre that peek up from his collar. What did she feel? “I guess I feel like Hannah. I love you, and I’m happy, and I’m content to let things just be. I don’t see having regrets. If something happened to you, I don’t think that would be true.” Her eyes dropped back to their hands and returned. “I would regret not getting to hold your hand again.”

Bonner

Kane pulled her to him gently and said “Thats… not quite it. But you’re close. You would miss not holding my hand again. Regret would be you looking back at a time you could have held my hand and you chose not to. But as far as I know, that’s never happened. So that isn’t a regret you should have.” He put his fingers on her chin and lifted her face to look at him. “And hun, I’m too damn mean to die. So I don’t plan on going anywhere at all.” He kissed her, softly and briefly, and then said “Now… what can we do to get your mind off this particular path? Because you xant make Hannah’s loss yours. Its not fair to you, and it dilutes hers.” Years of mandatory counseling sessions did have a few perks.

Kane

Alexis looked up at him, thinking. She didn’t want to make Hannah’s loss her own. She was trying to put herself in Hannah’s position, so maybe she could understand and be a better friend. She knew that Solomon knew how her mind worked, and there was the chance she would fixate on it. “I guess I could go to the lab. That always works, but I really don’t want to.” She leaned him and kissed him. Her free hand slipped down along his arm and she smiled as she pulled back, “You could tell me about these tattoos on this arm and finally show me that card trick, or we can watch Lucy and after go talk to Taylor and get married.”

Bonner

Kane nodded, shrugged, and then said “Ok. Do you wanna change or anything before we go? And you should probably tell your dad.”
