Kane waited until the door was closed and then turned and looked at Alexis. “Now… tell me whats really on your mind. Hannah’s message threw you a bit, huh?”

Kane

Alexis nodded with a sigh. “Hannah is the sweetest, most caring person I know. I know life isn’t fair, but it’s just…wrong. Hannah waited five years for him to come back, and now he’s gone. Hannah said she’s lonely in ways she can’t describe. She asked how over the top my mom went with our wedding. I know my mother is being very petty, but it just makes me more angry now. Because if anyone deserves to be bitter right now, it’s Hannah, and she’s not. Instead she told me she’s hapoy for me and to not to think so much about things. That way I don’t have regrets like she does.” Alexis just looked him in the eye.

Bonner

“Ok… I can see that.” Kane said slowly and thoughtfully. “So what do you think you should do? You aren’t ever going to not think about things… or even overthink things. But that doesn’t matter, because that is you. And ‘you’ is just fine as you are.” He reached and took her hand. “Do you think you have regrets? Or think that you will?”

Kane

Alexis shook her head, “Hannah didn’t mean I’m not fine being me. Hannah isn’t like that.” Alexis stated at their hands as her finger curled around his palm. His heavily tattooed and hers glaringly blank in comparison. Holding his hand always made her feel warm. She raised her eyes to his green ones. “The whole premise of a regret is the idea that one would go back and change their actions. I can’t time travel, so I can’t change anything.” Maybe she did have some regrets especially when it came to Soulis or her mother, but that was a pointless exercise. “The best course of action is to learn from it and given similar circumstances, try and do better.”

“Hannah said that they were happy, content to simply be together, to not force things, to just be. That they would let things happen if and when they did. But now she regrets they didn’t do or talk about certain things and now they never will.” Her fingers trailed over the flames of the funeral pyre that peek up from his collar. What did she feel? “I guess I feel like Hannah. I love you, and I’m happy, and I’m content to let things just be. I don’t see having regrets. If something happened to you, I don’t think that would be true.” Her eyes dropped back to their hands and returned. “I would regret not getting to hold your hand again.”

Bonner

Kane pulled her to him gently and said “Thats… not quite it. But you’re close. You would miss not holding my hand again. Regret would be you looking back at a time you could have held my hand and you chose not to. But as far as I know, that’s never happened. So that isn’t a regret you should have.” He put his fingers on her chin and lifted her face to look at him. “And hun, I’m too damn mean to die. So I don’t plan on going anywhere at all.” He kissed her, softly and briefly, and then said “Now… what can we do to get your mind off this particular path? Because you xant make Hannah’s loss yours. Its not fair to you, and it dilutes hers.” Years of mandatory counseling sessions did have a few perks.

Kane

Alexis looked up at him, thinking. She didn’t want to make Hannah’s loss her own. She was trying to put herself in Hannah’s position, so maybe she could understand and be a better friend. She knew that Solomon knew how her mind worked, and there was the chance she would fixate on it. “I guess I could go to the lab. That always works, but I really don’t want to.” She leaned him and kissed him. Her free hand slipped down along his arm and she smiled as she pulled back, “You could tell me about these tattoos on this arm and finally show me that card trick, or we can watch Lucy and after go talk to Taylor and get married.”

Bonner

Kane nodded, shrugged, and then said “Ok. Do you wanna change or anything before we go? And you should probably tell your dad.”

Kane

Alexis sighed, that’s when she over thought things. It felt complicated, and probably wasn’t. “I probably should, but I don’t know what. So if you have some idea in your head of what you want me to wear then say so. Otherwise it’s going to be something out of the closet, and a good chance it will be a dress uniform. Yeah I’ll call him back in a minute.”

Bonner

He smiled at her and said “Fine. Dress uniforms it is.” and he stood up and walked to the computer. “You go get dressed, I’ll call the Skipper.”

Kane

Alexis got up and moved into the other room. She paused for half a second to wonder if it was really that easy. Huh? Weird. As the door slid closed she tapped her combadge =/\=Bonner to Anthony Bonner. Dad can you put on your dress uniform and come back?=/\=

There was laughter over the comm, =/\=Yep.=/\= and the comm went silent.

Alexis’ dress uniform was the new standard white uniform with department and rank striped, but instead of black pants she chose the black pencil skirt with tall black boots. It was a throw back to earlier eras, but Alexis had liked the option when she’d chosen it a year or so ago. She pulled the small box from the night stand and slipped it into her pocket. Then she brushed her hair out, clipping it back with some random filigree looking clips she had from who knew when.

Bonner

Kane walked in a few minutes later and said “The skirt is a nice touch. Very sexy. Remind me to have you order me to do… things… later.” and he grinned as he pulled out his dress uniform. It took jima few moments, and a few moments longer to tame his hair back in a braid, but soon he was dressed. He opened a drawer in the closet and pulled out a black box, opened it, and pulled out a medal that looked familiar but was not any medal in use by Star Fleet… or at least this Star Fleet. He set it in place on his upper left chest and checked it in the mirror. “I must really love you to wear this without being forced.”

Kane

Her face turned red, but at this point Alexis just accepted it was going to be that way. She never knew what he might say or when, and she was more than okay with that. Alexis walked over to him and looked at it. “Uh huh…you didn’t bring that with you. That means you made it because it matters. Wear it because you want to, but you can still blame me.” Then she looked up at him, “What is it? Or is that a conversation left for another day?”

Bonner

“I actually didn’t make it. It was in my pocket when I moved. My Captain there wanted me wearing it to show the people we were meeting that some of us were decorated. Took three years for those fu<%ers to give it back.” He looked at it in the mirror and said “Citation of Conspicuous Gallentry. I’ll tell you about that another time. Right now, we need your ad to get here.”

Kane

So he did bring something with him. All the more important because of that. She looked at it, Conspicuous Gallentry, the words suited him, at least she thought so. She kissed his cheek, “I already called him. Should be here…” Alexis was cut off as the chime sounded. She walked into the living area, “Come.” The door opened and the elder Bonner walked in wearing a dress white uniform very similar to Kane’s. “You know I don’t usually travel with a dress uniform. Good thing the computer had my measurements.” Anthony chuckled and put his hands on Alexis shoulders and kissed her cheek.

Bonner

Kane finished the final adjustments… gods above he hated these things… and walked out and into the living room. “Hey.” he said as he looked at the elder Bonner. “Lex had an idea so we’re gonna go get married if the Skipper has the time available. And I figured since I had to wear this thing, we’d make you do it too.” he said with a kind of half-smile.

Kane

Anthony shared a long suffering look with him. “Yep, I hate these things.” He tugged at the sleeves that were too stiff.

Alexis looked from one to the other, she had asked. “They are designed for fit and function and out of the same materials as our working uniforms. They just look nicer. And you both look good in them and you know it.” Frigga appeared from under her chair looking back and forth between the three and turned an excited circle. Alexis looked down at her, “Yes you’re coming.”

Anthony raised a brow and shrugged. Frigga was more family than Alisson, so why not? “Well let’s get going then. Or are we still waiting to hear from Cpt Taylor?”
