She was drowning in water, waves knocking her over each time she came up to gasp for air. The world had turned over and over meaning she could not work out which way was up and which was down. Her lungs burnt with desperate pressure to surface to breathe. Eventually she pushed in a direction and managed to gulp a mouthful of air. It was icy cold, biting her face and throat as she drank it in. The waves had surrendered to ice. A sheet if it above her solid and freezing stopped her getting more than her head out of the water. She hit against it with all her might, over and over. Finally, she broke the surface through the layer of ice. Clawing, dragging herself up from the water she lay on her side, curled up in a ball. Her breaths, ragged and uneven puffed like smoke. The cold like knives in her skin. She shivered.

Icy water trickled down into her eyes and she slowly became aware she wasn’t lying on the ice after all, rather the foam of a mattress. Covers tied in knots around her ankle showed her turmoil in the dream had been acted out in part. The sheets were damp as was the sleep Tee she wore. It stuck to her in places. Slowly she sat up her head pounding and shivered again. Looking around her bedroom she brought her hand to her cheek. The good news where she was there was No ice…her skin was burning, yet she felt half frozen. Carefully Willow reached into the drawer by her bed and pulled an old medical tricorder out. She turned it on herself and sighed as the reading on her vitals indicated the fever she knew was there.

She wondered how long it would take for the circumventions she had put on GALEN alerting Brad about her vitals to run through the system and get back to him. Sighing she looked at the number beside her body temperature and made her mind up. She needed an antipyretic. Sickbay it would need to be.

Checking the time Willow groaned and carefully untangled herself from the bedding and went to change into a baggy T-shirt and jogging bottoms. She towels off her hair and brushed it back before wandering into the corridors. It wasn’t until she was half way to the primary medical suite that she was aware that she was only in her socks and not shoes. But at 3am it wasn’t too busy and she made it to the Primary medical suite without seeing anyone else.

By this point she was sweating again, exhausted at the effort of moving and desperate for a hypo and another couple hours sleep.

Drake was seated on an empty biobed. He watched curiously as the figure of what seemed to be the Captain walked in, but looked… off. He hopped down and walked over to her. “Morning skipper. What can the night watch do for you?”

-Lt Cmdr Drake Marshall, M.D.

Willow gave a small start as Drake approached her. “Doctor Marshall.” She sighed lifting a hand to the right side of her sternum and rubbing. “Good morning…I just need an antipyretic…shouldn’t take long I can get it myself.”

“You have a fever?” Drake quirked an eyebrow. “Well Captain Taylor… I hate to tell you this, but have a seat on biobed 10. Doctor’s Orders.” It was well known in Starfleet that in one scenario, a doctor outranked a Captain, when the phrase Doctor’s Orders was invoked due to concern for the captain’s well-being. “I promise not to tell Brad if it turns out to be nothing.”
