“Yes,” Dira said softly. “Though it is more about something I’d like to share, for you to experience with me. Every Haliian is different about how and when they choose to allow another person to share this with them, and to be honest Zoi, a part of me wanted to very early on. But I also knew with all the changes I was going through when I arrived, that it wouldn’t be fair to either of us. That we would be robbed of the full beauty of it just because I was rushing things.”
Dira blew out a breath and reached for the cloth bag on the table and pulled it into her lap. With exquisite delicacy, she reached in and pulled out a an object wrapped in velvet in a deep shade of blue that bordered on black. Unwrapping it, it was a large crystal prism set on a base that Zoi might recall from Dira’s bedroom. It had sat in the corner of her dresser.
Zoi gazed at the crystal inquisitively, her eyes returning to Dira’s. She of course recognized the crystal, but had assumed that it was simply a decoration piece. Now of course, it seemed of somewhat more significance than that.
“This is the canar. It’s a special crystal from Halii that can amplify a Haliian’s abilities and allow someone they are connected to to even share them. But for me, and especially with the added mix of my Betazoid heritage, I’ve never been able to use it to just share my mind. For me it goes beyond that, beyond the physical.” Her dark eyes penetrated Zoi’s, trying to convey the things her words might not. “It takes the connection we already have and…” She shook her head. “It’s hard to explain, except to to say that for some this is special, yes, but a tool. For me, it’s allowing someone to touch my spirit and I take that very seriously. It’s not something I’ve allowed often. And it’s perfectly fine if you’re not ready for such a step, but if you are I’d like to take that step with you. I want you to know all of me Zoi.” It had been a very long time since she had longed for someone to know her this way and she knew after Paige it would take someone phenomenal to be the next. Zoi was all that and more.

Zoi listened to the explanation and let her mind work. This was a big step for both of them and she had to wonder if she was ready for such a step. Dira had taken her time processing her own pain and baggage, but had Zoi done enough work on her own to merit accepting such a gift. She looked down at the crystal as she thought long and hard about what such a step would mean for her. Zoi had not connected with someone in such a long time. When she had first started dating Dira, she had promised herself she would be all in, she would not hold herself back from something that brought her tremendous joy.
All in. She knew Dira was special to her, special on a deep level. Her heart fluttered as she realized she was a little scared of taking this next step. “Does.... does it work both ways?” she asked, looking up at Dira with a bit of trepidation.

Dira gave a slow nod. “It amplifies my abilities and whomever I’m connected with essentially shares them. you’d be able to read my thoughts, feel things they way I do and vice-versa.” She reached out and took Zoi’s hand in hers. “If I was less experienced, it could be overwhelming, but I know how to modulate it. And you can back out of it very simply by removing your hands if it’s too much for you or you decide you aren’t ready after all.”

She smiled softly as Dira’s hand reached out to her own. There was a warmth that radiated from their touching that was reassuring and comforting to her. The only real concern she had was what if Dira did not like what she felt within Zoi. Was her love strong enough? This was such a big step for Dira. She was placing trust in Zoi and she wanted to be worthy of that trust. After a moment of hesitation, she nodded. “As you wish dearest. I hope you shall not be disappointed.”

Dira shook her head. “This is not an evaluation or competition, Zoi. There’s no disappointment possible. I already love you,” she said with all earnestness. “This won’t change that. In fact, it might make it stronger.” While she could activate the canar, she didn’t want to before she felt Zoi was truly comfortable with the idea. “Just trust me, trust us.”
