Maria walked about the main engineering, she looked thoughtful as she headed through. She studied a PADD as she wandered about before frowning. She walked over to the main console and then pulled up a section of the ship, before she then pulled up a subsection and looked. She seemed to be looking at the port nacelle she looked at the information and frowned, as there were lines in the nacelle, each one of them was a blinking yellow save for one, that was a deep static red. She her frown deepend for just a moment before she smiled. She spoke up and called out. “Lt. Huzzen.”
Lt. J.G. Maria, CE

There was a loud clatter followed by a crash and a muttered curse into the relative silence of Engineering. Then the doors to a storage room opened…It was chaotic order. Navale was working in repairing a group of spanners and there were pieces and parts all over the work table. Apparently the chief’s sudden summons had caught her in deep concentration and she’d knocked over what she was working on to the floor. She was quickly picking up the scattered innards of the device.

She looked up and grinned, “Yes, Chief?” She put the parts on the table and hurried over.

Maria turned and then blinked before she chuckled softly. She was not all that supprised. “It seems that there is something wrong with one of the warp coils in the port nacel. I want you to come with me to check it out.” She said chuckling. “See if it’s something we can try and fix or if we need to head to a star base to have it replaced. I’ll let you finish up here then we’ll head to the nacel. Meet me in my office when finished please.”

“Yes chief.” Huzzen hurried back into the room to finish her work.

Maria waited, and listened to anything Huzzen had to say before she headded into her office.

After 15 minutes decided that one spanner was going to need a lot of work and may need to just be scrapped. She put things away and grabbed her tool kit. She pressed the chime to Maria’s office. “All set Chief.”

Huzzen, eng

The door to the office opened, and out walked Maria her own toolkit in hand. She gave a smile to the Lt. and tapped her Combadge.

=^= Maria to the Bridge.=^=

She paused just for a moment, long enough for an acknowledgement

=^= We are headed up to the port nacelle. I would appreciate it if we didn’t go to warp while we are up there. I don’t think crispy ultra deep fried Trill or Coridanite tastes very good… Maria out.=^=

She chuckled softly at her own joke a little and stepped out of Engineering. She headed down the corridor towards the turbolift. “I know that you prefer to work more on the equipment that we do our work with. But I thought that this would be a good thing for us both, get a little time out of Engineering.” She said as she stepped onto the turbolift.
Lt. J.G. Maria, CE

Navale fell into step beside Maria. “No problem. I mean I’m trained to work on the engines, of course, it’s just not my specialty. I’m always happy to help out wherever though. Often I find I learn new things, and that’s always fun.” They rde the lift and then got off on the deck making their way down to the access door for the jefferies tubes that led to the port nacelle.

Huzzen, eng

“Lets hope it’s something we can fix, and not something we have to go to a spacedock.” She said as they traveled. She punched in the access code for the Jefferies Tube, and watched as the door opened up. “I would rather something simple this time.” She said and chuckled softly.
Lt. J.G. Maria, CE

Navale grinned, “Well that would be nice, but let’s not jinx it.” She climbed the ladder and then crawled into the tube and started making her way toward the junction and necessary access panel.

Huzzen, eng

Maria followed behind her nodding. She chuckled softly to herself. “Doing this, it’s a bit of a journey to get to the nacelle.” She sounded really chipper as they made their way to the access hatch. Seems that she enjoyed climbing through the ship as they were to get to their destination. Once they were outside of the hatch Maria walked over to the console and started to punch in a series of numbers. “This one is the tricky one…” She muttered to herself after a minute. There was a sound of slight decompression as the doors slowly opened and started to slide away.
Lt. J.G. Maria, CE

Bump?

OOC: Whoops, sorry!

Navale likened Maria’s enjoyment to her own of seeing the inner workings of the small devices and tools they used, just on a grander scale. How often had she wished she could shrink down and climb through the pieces she was fixing so she could have a better look. She gave Maria a curious stare. “What’s tricky about it?” For Navale all things engineering were ouzzles and therefore tricky, so she was curious about Maria’s perspective.

“The access code is a bit long.” Maria chuckled. “But this particular job? There are a multitude of things. As we both hope it’s something small and we don’t have to return to spacedock… I want everything to run smoothly. The benefit of advanced technology is it’s complexity, but it is also it’s downside. Well it may be complex to one of us, or us in general but could also be childs play to another species that have advanced further… I guess I am excited of the possibilities, but also know how hard it will be to try to fix the things the more complex they get.” She explained softly.
Lt. J.G. Maria, CE

Navale nodded as Maria keyed in the code. “I heard someone say once, that we are just far enough behind understanding the technology we create to never see the harm it can do. I don’t know who said it. I guess that’s why I like working with smaller tech and older ‘outdated’ tools.”

Huzzen, eng

Maria laughed as the door finished opening and she nodded. “Also seems that the older the tool the better it works sometimes. It may be that it doesnt have a wide variety of features but the things it can do it does better than a gizmo that could do the same job five different ways.” She said and stepped into the nacelle. She looked around briefly whistling softly to herself as she looked at the warp coils and how massive they were.

Navale nodded. “I live to tinker with old tech. See how people used to do things having and knowing less than we do now.” Navale entered behind Maria and looked around. It infused a sense of awe in her. “Beautiful aren’t they?”

Huzzen, eng

Maria chuckled. “And yet sometimes the ancients surprise us and leave us to wonder how they built the things that they did without the tools we have. Makes you wonder what knowledge did we lose because we didn’t have or lost the recordings of those things.” Her chuckle turned into a giggle. “I remember in ancient history class… how the ancients had built things and it left people to wonder, which left them also to wonder if there was alien life… long before we had first contact with the Vulcans.” Maria nodded. “I agree with you there. Such a large integral piece of the ship. It’s magnificent and awe inspiring at the same time. Now… I believe it was coil five that was affected.” Maria muttered the last sentence to herself as she stepped into the nacelle and turned left to head towards the bow of the nacelle.
Lt. (J.G.) Maria, CE

Navale followed behind and when they got to the access for coil 5 she plugged the diagnostic tool into the system. It would give them a better picture of what was going on than just a tricorder scan. She held the larger PaDD up so Maria could see it, and she began scrolling slowly through the data and images being fed to the screen.

Huzzen, eng

Maria watched the data feed and checked it with scrutany before she pointed. “There… seems like there is a small varriation in the conversion matrix… causing a small flub in the warp containment field…Something like that… if not corrected that could be bad. If we adjust the warp matrix flux capacitor, then we may be able to smooth out that variation…” Maria said thinking to herself.
Lt. (J.G.) Maria, CE

Navale dug into her tool belt for the right tool and then was on the floor, removing another panel so she could scoot under and reach the necessary containment flow unit. “Alright let’s give it a try. Let me know what this does chief.” Then she began to make small adjustments to the flow regulators.

Huzzen, eng

Maria continued to watch the datastream. She thought for a moment before she spoke “Open the intake by .26 degrees.... and close the outtake by .11 degrees please.”

Lt. J.G. Maria, CE

“Alright,” Navale reached for the intake and watching her own read out she slowly turned the valve the requested amount. “Intake set.” She pivoted in her back to get a better angle on the outtake. But nothing happened. “Chief, I think I see the problem. The connections on the outtake flow regulator look corroded.”

Huzzen, eng

Maria blinked and looked through her kit. “I see.... hmmm, I think we have some spare ones in a storage compartment right outside of the nacelle. Give me a few minutes and I’ll go fetch it.” She said before setting the equipment to the side and stood up.
Lt. J.G. Maria, CE

“I’ll be here,” Navale called from the access space. She silently prayed to the engineering gods that no one tried to start the engines while she was in there.

Huzzen, eng

Maria was gone for a little while a tad longer than what should have been necessary. After a little while the sound of workboots against the metal came and Maria had turned. She squatted down and handed Huzzen the regulator, new fittings, and seals. “Here you are. These should do… they wernt where they were suppose to be… I’ll be having a talk with the supplies keeper after this.”
Lt. J.G. Maria, CE

Navale had been about to go check on Maria when she heard her return. She gathered the pieces, laying them around her in a specific order. “Could you cut the power through here, Chief? It’s going to have to be cleaned after I get the corroded parts removed. It will take a hit and I don’t particularly relish the idea of an accidental power surge from even just basic. I’ve got a lamp in my kit.”

Huzzen, eng

Maria nodded and tapped her combadge. =^=Maria to Engineering, We are going to take the Port Nacelle offline for a bit to replace some parts on one of the inverters. Can you inform the Helm that we will not be able to go to warp for at least the next hour? Thanks. Maria out.=^= She then headded over to the door and typed in a code on a pannel next to the door. The pannel opened revealing a switch. “Turning out the lights.” She flipped the switch and the lights did shut off, the low hum and buzz that went through the compartment died, and it fell quiet. It almost was unnerving how quiet it was with the absense of the buzz of things in the background, and now that it was gone it felt slightly eerie.

“Got my lamp, go for it.” Navale turned the small head lamp on and then a small fusion lantern came on and provided enough light to move easily.

Once Huzzen turned on the lamp she would slowly make her way back feeling around so that she didn’t bump and break or destroy something.
Lt. J.G Maria, CE

After a moment, Navale blew out a breath. “The silence feels really loud right at first doesn’t?” Then the silence was filled with the whirring of spanners and the occasional huff or grunt from the engineer. “Ah! Here we go.” Huzzen placed the damaged and corroded parts outside the access hatch. Her hand patted and moved back and forth for a moment, “Could you hand me the can of solvent cleaner, Chief?”

Huzzen, eng

Maria nodded and realised that Huzzen couldn’t really see the motion though may have heard her clothing had rustled in the movement. “Yeah… I’m so use to it that with it gone it just feels… wrong.” She looked around for just a minute. She then saw the can and squatted down. She picked it up and set it just to the side of Huzzen’s hand. “It’s to the left.” She said before she herself gave a soft sigh. She then also picked up another can and once Huzzen had grabbed the solvent cleaner she then placed another can in the same place. “The Thermal Bonding Compound Solvent is in the same place to insulate the new connector from melting under the thermal load of the plasma.” She added.
