Cori knew her brain had a high capacity for information retention but she had actually been easing into delving into ship records and such. She was trying to not overwhelm herself, especially when she was still trying to wrap her mind around her new situation and also getting her body up to par to pass the duty fitness test. “Ahhh. Makes sense on a medical ship. I’m still getting the lay of the land, as it were, but eventually I will be joining the science department.”

“Oh?” Brad asked, lowering his arms. “What’s your main field of interest?”

A Starfleet scientist, of course, was expected to be conversant in everything from astrophysics to xenobiology as a matter of course, but he’d yet to meet one that didn’t prefer a particular field of study.

“Well, I majored in biology with a joint minor in geology and ecology, but my career has been a bit… variable. I ended up picking up a great deal of medical sciences and worked as a medic at times in Sickbay. So while I’m not sure yet what my role will be, I could see some sort of medical biosciences work.” Dalton shrugged. “Really I just want to be useful, so wherever it’s felt I can be helpful, I’ll be fine with.”

“On this ship, you will most likely end up in biomed,” Brad agreed. “Though I could see either of your other interests coming in handy if we’re ever dispatched on relief missions to world suffering from geological instability or ecological disaster.”

Cori jolted back, losing her balance and had to grab the barre more firmly to keep from falling over. She blinked and took a deep breath, resuming aher previous thoughtful expression. “Sorry, I just realized the implication is that I might end up on away missions.”
