Saatynn was eager to meet the CSO of the Ogawa. A medical ship was an interesting subject, and he was eager to sit down and study what all the ship had to offer, but first he had official business to take care of. He rang the chime to the CSO’s office, stepping back and absentmindedly smoothed out his uniform.

Without warning, the door slid open. The room was in a state of solid organization and was very clean. Low shelves went around the room on which sat various PaDDs, actual books, and small mementos from who knew where. Near the back of the room, in front of but facing away from the windows that looked out on the lab area, was a large desk at which sat a male Antican. Black hair flowed from his eyebrows and chin, and also was present in the form of a mustache. The top of his head was bare, as was typical of his species, with a central ridge that went from the bridge of his nose and bisected his entire head into left and right sides. The canine-like humanoid wore the blue uniform of the Science section and Lieutenant Junior Grade pips on his collar. As the door opened, the face looked up from the desk and smiled, baring very sharp and brilliant white teeth.

“Hello!” came an excited voice, and Tressex stood up and extended his hand, nodding and causing the hair on his face to shake and bounce. “I’m Lieutenant JG Tressex, the Chief Science Officer. Please please, sit.” he said, indicating a chair facing the desk. “How may I help you, Ensign?”

Tressex, CSO

Saatynn let the obvious surprise at the door opening play across his face as he entered the room. “Ensign Saatynn, reporting my arrival, sir.” He looked around and took the room in, feeling it was much like himself–not the usual for its type.

Ens Saatynn

“Yes yes. Of course. Now do be seated. Do you want something to drink? Eat? The replicator is really well stocked. And please, tell me a bit about yourself.” the Antican saiid excitedly, almost bouncing in his chair.

Tressex, CSO

Saatynn blinked at the other man’s enthusiasm. Having worked with humans enough he had gotten used to meeting those who were very excited, but it still threw him off every time. “No thank you.” Saatynn declined the offer of refreshments, “as for about myself. I’m sure you’ve already noticed I’m not like many Vulcans. In my youth I rebelled against Surak’s teachings and embraced my emotions.”

Ens Saatynn

Tressex stopped cold and his eyes went wide. “R-really? You did?! How very fascinating! Tell me why you did that? Not that I mean to pry, but all the Vulcans I have known so far have been… well… you know.” and he sat rigid and took on a stereotypical Vulcan look of disdain.

Tressex, CSO

Saatynn’s smile faded quickly, especially at the look Tressex gave him. “I rejected his teachings of my own accord. My reasons are my reasons, whether it’s logical or not. My family was not happy about it, but I didn’t embarrass them, so they dealt with it.” Saatynn stated.

Ens Saatynn

Tressex slot nodded and said “Oh. Of course. Again, I didnt mean to pry. I am still learning some of the social parameters of dealing with species outside of my own. I am sorry if I was.... was… um… ah, yes. Digging too much. My species is pack based, so some of the social constructs I deal with are unfamiliar.” and he cleared his throat and changed the subject.

” So tell me, Ensign. What are your specialties, and what do you hope to accomplish while you are here?”

Tressex, CSO

“My specialty is xeno-anthropology.” Saatynn replied, “as for my goals here, primarily I hope to advance my career and change the stigma of my people.”

Ens Saatynn

A confused look crossed Tressex’s face. “Stigma? I was unaware of any ‘stigma’. But I haven’t dealt with many Vulcans outside of the Academy, so there is that.” and he paused as he thought about something. “Xeno-anthropology? Interesting field. How do you see that being of use on a Medical vessel?” he asked, obviously curious about how the Ensign saw himself working within the department.

Tressex, CSO

“Ancient cultures, whether our own or alien, can give great insight into how diseases developed. For example, Tuvan syndrome, which affects my people, started sometime after the Sundering, with possible similar diseases for millenia before that.” Saatynn said, “I’ve also found that oftentimes, ancient cultures record symptoms of diseases, even if they don’t understand them. Which can lead to surprising connections with modern illnesses.”

Ens Saatynn

“Do you focus solely on anthropological medicine and comparative disease evolutions? Or do you have broader interests as well?”

Tressex, CSO

“Broader interests, but I keep going back to my specialty. Guess you could say my biology is showing itself.” Saatynn joked

Ens Saatynn

Tressex laughed in a friendly fashion. “I was never too adept at the biological sciences, so I am glad you are here Ensign. But I do wonder… what is it you want from your time here specifically? If you could name it and just ‘poof’ it was real, what would you want to see happen?”

Tressex, CSO

“I’d probably get my head checked out, or see if I’ve become a Q.” Saatynn joked, “honestly, I want to have a part in helping people, that’s why I requested this assignment.”

Ens Saatynn

Tressex looked puzzled for a moment and then said “You requested a medical vessel? Hm. An interesting choice. Many in the Science field would go for a heavy researcher like the Manhattan. I didn’t make any request. I was simply assigned here. But I have to say, the ship has really grown on me. It is a very pleasant and not at all common to be able to see the direct results of one’s research and experimentation.”
