“I was just looking to report in, ma’am,” he said somewhat cautiously. “But if this is a bad time, I can just return to putting your warp drive back together until you’re ready to handle that… administrivia.”

Willow pushed her hair back and carefully stood, ”i seem to have a track record of meeting my chief engineers in a less than ideal professional manner, I apologise.” she gave a smile. And then…

When Willow was crawling around on the floor, seriously who does that when the CE is right there, she took a breath of a greenish black dust. It caused a brief coughing fit but nothing that wasn’t quickly overcome.

However a moment or two after Mason entered Willow felt dizzy and light headed, nauseated and tired all at once. She smelled the scent of roses, super fragrant red roses and then it was gone. All that she was left with from the experience was the feeling of regal authority. She was in charge and she would collect the head of anyone who questioned that authority.

The coughing subsided. She blinked and shook her head as if to clear it. What was she doing again? Something about a chair…well of course she needed a chair, no not a chair a throne. A towering throne.

Bob made extra effort not to express more concern than was necessary. He didn’t want to seem anxious in front of his new boss.

She looked around and wrinkled her nose at the mess, and what was she wearing. Urgh. Turning she surveyed Mason with only the faintest idea of who he was. ”Well don’t just stand there, get this mess cleared up and find me a throne.” she told him.

The reaction that Mason gave was reflexive, having been a highly trained Starfleet officer: “Yes, ma’am!” He stood ramrod straight upon saying it for a moment, before promptly starting to gather pieces up off the floor. As soon as his hands had as many parts as he could carry, he would dump them all into the nearby replicator, and after pressing a few override commands, made them de-materialize. It took several rounds of this before all of the pieces were cleaned up.

That was kind of a weird change of mood, he thought as he was doing this oddly tedious task. This must be some kind of weird test. His approach was the fastest, most practical way to clean everything up that was available to him on this starbase that he could think of, so he was confident he would win all of the points in that category if it was that kind of test. He didn’t particularly like this kind of testing but he knew it was something some Captains occasionally did to new people under their command, so he definitely didn’t think as much of it as he should have…
