Achilleas’ caressing hand moved to Ria’s chin and gently lifted her head. He met her gaze with a gentle smile. “I’m glad that you had the opportunity. I’m sad that it didn’t work out for whatever the reason was, but I’m very happy and relieved that you’re available now. I’m ecstatic that you like me despite my own flaws and that you want to make this work. I’m proud that you told me even through the worry I see on your face. Thank you Ria.” He leaned forward and kissed her lips gently.

The relief she felt was probably fairly visible on her face and in her body language. Just before his lips fully touched hers, she whispered, “Thank you” and then kissed him back. Very tenderly at first, but she soon found herself kissing him a bit more passionately while her hands caressed his back, neck and the back of his head. As she realised what she was doing, she suddenly broke the kiss. Her cheeks were scarlet and she looked sheepishly at Achilleas. “I’m sorry, i…” her voice trailed off and she slightly shook her head.

Achilleas responded by taking her lips again. He shifted the hand he had on her chin around to the back of her head. This provided the necessary leverage to lean into the kiss more passionately. There was probably a very serious risk of them having bruised lips when all was said and done. Afterall this was only the third time he had ever kissed someone romantically, so harder was better to demonstrate passion, right?

CSO Petrakos

At first Ria returned the kiss in kind, but it wasn’t long till she broke the kiss once again. With one hand still caressing the side of his face, she lightly placed the other on his chest. She didn’t want to hurt his feelings and yet she started to feel a little uncomfortable. But how could she communicate that with hurting Achilleas’ feelings or maybe even make him doubt himself or something. So while searching for the right words, she whispered, “I’m sorry” again.

Achilleas shook his head lightly. “No, I’m sorry. I got overzealous after being so happy that you kissed me. Please do so anytime you feel the desire to.” He smiled broadly, “I feel like I could kiss you all day, but I don’t know how well I could control myself from wanting more. Instead would you like to cuddle a bit while I tell you a story?”

CSO Petrakos

“I know,” Ria replied softly and knowingly, maybe even a little ruefully. “But we can’t let ourselves get carried away. Not now anyway. Yet cuddling sounds nice.” She quickly kissed his cheek and then leaned forward and took of her boots. She then moved her sitting position so that her angled legs were resting on the couch next to her and her shoulder was lightly resting against Achilleas’ shoulder. “What story do you want to tell me?”

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

Achilleas stretched his arms and not so subtly looped one around Ria’s shoulder. “Well that depends on what you’d like to hear about. More about me? More about my family? More of my dreams? Or something I haven’t thought of?”

CSO Petrakos

Ria smiled softly and leaned a little bit more into Achilleas. “I’m happy to listen to whatever you’d like to share with me,” she answered softly. The truth was that she often felt more comfortable listening than talking (unless she got the chance to talk about her work, that is) and she genuinely enjoyed listening to him a lot. So she didn’t much care what he would talk about as long as it was something he wanted to tell her.

Achilleas settled into the couch with Ria nestling up against him. This was happiness he thought. It would be better if they had no restrictions to their interactions, but he was content with this. He was contemplating what to regale with her next when an idea occurred to him. “Hey Ria, before I dive into another story I actually have a question for you. What are your hopes and dreams?”

CSO Petrakos

Ria was silent for a little while, but not so much because she didn’t know the answer to his questions and more because she pondered how best to phrase her answer. “I want to learn as much as I can; especially about science. And help everyone in the department as best as possible. I hope to meet new species and see spacial phenomena I’ve never seen with my own eyes before. I want to be happy and spend the rest of my life with someone who loves me as much as I love them.” Her cheeks turned slightly pink as she added in her thoughts, ‘I hope you’ll be that person.’ Of course she was fully aware that it was too early to think about that, but she couldn’t seem to help herself. “And I want to have a family of my own,” she finished, her cheeks turning even redder.

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

Achilleas chuckled lightly. “Well you’ll really be helping me out by helping out the department. If you hear of anything that can be improved please let me know. Not everyone us willing to talk to their department head but feedback is vital to keep us running smoothly. I’m likewise very excited about the possibility to learn and see so much unknown stuff! It would be fantastic to have a phenomena named after us.” His breath hitched for a moment, “I didn’t think I wanted to find a person to spend the rest of my life with but I’m coming around to the idea. I do hope we both find the one we’re meant to be with and my hope is that we already have. How many children were you thinking would be a family? My family is a bit, uh, prolific in that regards.”

CSO Petrakos

“I hope so too,” Ria said softly, leaving it slightly vague what she was replying to, while playing with her braid. Though not in the way she did when she was anxious. Right now it seemed to be more of a subconscious thing that kept her hands busy while she was thinking. “I always liked odd numbers,” she said with a soft chuckle. “So three maybe five? I’m not sure if I’d want more than that.” Tilting her head enough so she could look at him, she added, “How about you?”

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

“I’m… not sure actually.” Achilleas said with a bit of hesitation in his voice, “I was actually convinced that I never would have any children. All of my siblings were carrying on the family line and I would focus on science. Being the youngest meant I wouldn’t be pressured to have children or even a partner, so I guess I took it for granted and just put it out of mind. If I had to throw a number out there though… I like three because of it being a prime number. My parents would be beside themselves with joy if they knew I was planning to be in a relationship and contemplating children numbers.”
