The hour was late, well past 0200. She had never required much sleep, and she preferred the quiet of the late hour to exercise and train.

Duvosa entered the gym, relieved to see that there were only 2 others present. She was dressed in a simple black leotard and black flat slippers. She would vary her attire for workouts, ranging from what she was wearing now, to full uniform or even the occasional exercise regimen in an environmental suit. She liked to push her own boundaries, and be ready for anything that may come her way.

Paying no mind to the other crew members there, she chose a spot in an open area of the floor and began stretching slowly, performing various yoga poses and then sliding down to the floor in a full split, resting her forehead on one knee. She could feel her body stretching and she held this pose for a while, no doubt the two goons who were here lifting weights as she entered were now staring at her.

Duvosa got a few reps into her work out, the burn starting to set in before it started. At first her eyes started to sting and her mind swam with a flurry of colors. After a moment the feeling passed and all that was left was the feeling that something was profoundly different.

After her warmup Duvosa started with a round of burpees. As she moved from a plank position up to a crouch, her eyes started burning. She jumped up and landed awkwardly on her feet again. She saw colors all around her and her mind was spinning. But then the sensation passed.

Looking around, Duvosa wondered if the other people working out had noticed what had just happened. She felt like something was different, but she shook the feeling off.

Making her way over to the punching bag that hung from the ceiling in the corner of the gym area, she began striking it with various punches and kicks, brushing aside the feeling of uneasiness and focusing instead on her form and the intensity of her attacks.

Deep in Duvosa’s mind she had a sudden desire to play croquet and an attraction to roses.

She stopped hitting the punching bag, grabbing it as it swung back toward her, holding on to it. Suddenly she was overwhelmed with the desire to play croquet.

Croquet??? She had only briefly read about the game, and it was something she had never played before in her life. She shook her head, trying to psychically shake the thoughts from her mind. She paused, taking in a deep breath. No, the strange desire to play croquet was still there.

Almost as if deep in a trance, she made her way out of the gym and through the corridors to the station Holodecks.

“Computer, set up a croquet course, setting All England Club at Wimbledon, late 19th century,” Duvosa spoke, recalling details of the game from reading the history books. She paused, thinking. She was not entirely dressed for the occasion. “Replicate late 19th century clothing.” She paused once more. “Also, fill the area with roses. Lots of red roses.” She wasn’t quite sure why she added that last part, but she was particularly fond of roses at the moment.

Once the computer notified her that the program was ready, she entered. Everything was in place, the sides of the croquet lawn were full of lush blooming rose bushes, the faint scent coming from the flowers wafting through the breeze.

Selecting a mallet and a ball, she made her way over to the starting point for the course, beginning the game.

Hours later, she was still playing the game, not seeming to notice how much time had passed since she’d entered the Holodeck in the first place.

-Lt jg Duvosa, Sec

Zoi had noticed that Duvosa had not come in for her shift and wondered where she was. Deciding to give a little bit of leeway, she waited for an hour, hoping the Vulcan woman had simply overslept. Yet even after an hour, the woman had not arrived for her scheduled shift. =/\= Computer locate Lt Duvosa=/\=

Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion and curiosity. She left her office and quickly made her way there. When she opened the doors, she saw Duvosa playing croquet in a place surrounded by roses. “Lt. Duvosa?”

Haven, CoS

Duvosa looked over at Zoi, then smiled broadly. “Well hello there! Would you care to join me? This is such a fun game!” Her voice was pitched high and the smile on her face was definitely unusual compared to Duvosa’s more broody nature. Duvosa adjusted the large hat adorning her head and reached down to smooth down the dress she was wearing.

All in all it would be a strange sight for her department head to witness, but to Duvosa, everything seemed perfectly lovely.

-Lt jg Duvosa, Sec

Zoi blinked wide eyed. She had never seen Duvosa so… happy. It was unnerving to see the smile and hear the higher than normal pitch in her voice. Then Zoi let her observation fall from the face of her officer to the dress she was wearing and the hat she had on her head. Neither was Duvosa’s style and Zoi knew something was terribly wrong. Was she having some kind of mental break?

“Lt. There is a super fun course being put on by Sick Bay. We have been invited. Would you join me in playing? It’s not far and they even have a tea party.”

Haven, CoS

“Oh is that so?” Duvosa mused. “Do you know if there are roses?” She plucked a rose from a nearby bush and held it out for Zoi. “I do hope there are roses, they are just so lovely, don’t you think?”

After a while, Haven smelled it too, it was the smell of paint. Red paint, and tea. Whatever the it was it made her fee somewhat light-headed but after a moment she recovered only to find herself feeling far too mischievous and not all together sane. Maybe that Cheshire grin on her face had something to do with it.

The smell was unusual and she wrinkled her nose, looking around to try and find where it was coming from and by the time she realized there was a problem, it was too late. Whatever it was had gained control. She closed her eyes as her head spun and when she opened them again, she was smiling.

Duvosa watched as Zoi appeared to be overcome by something, peering at her curiously, but not making a move to intervene. “My dear, are you quite all right?” She asked the other woman, tilting her head as she leaned in closer.

-Lt jg Duvosa, Sec

“I am just fine, Meow Meow.” A little giggle escaped her lips as mischievous ideas started running through her mind. She grabbed Duvosa’s arm and twirled her in a makeshift dance, purposefully offsetting the woman’s balance and aiming her toward the thorny roses.

Haven, CoS

Duvosa hummed as the two women danced, and then her balance was askew and she found herself tumbling to the ground. She giggled.

“Oh so sorry!” Duvosa said, once again righting herself to her feet. She picked up the croquet mallet that she had dropped on the ground nearby. “Croquet?” She asked Zoi, grinning.

-Lt jg Duvosa. Sec

Zoi’s grin faltered a little bit as she realized that Duvosa didn’t feel the prickles of the vines as she had intended. In her mind, she didn’t even realize that the holodeck had parameters set to keep harm from happening to the people inside its confines. She was far too interested in causing mischief. She blinked and looked at the mallet. Again the grin returned full force. “Why yes! Lets.”

She took a mallet and began aiming with exaggerated motions. Her mind whirled trying to find some way to make this more… fun.

Haven, CoS

Duvosa grinned in delight. She took her mallet and whacked the ball and it went flying towards the little gate she was supposed to make the ball roll through. Unfortunately her aim was a little off and the ball rolled to the side of the gate.

“Oh well,” She muttered, walking towards the ball. As she passed a nearby rose bush, the aroma caught her attention and she leaned her face closer to the flowers, taking in a big whiff. “Don’t these roses smell delightful?” She asked Zoi.

-Lt jg Duvosa, Sec

Zoi watched as Duvosa went after her ball, only to be distracted by the thorned roses again. Taking this opportunity, she shot her ball past her and pretended to go after it with an exaggerated run that caused her to OOPS! bump into Duvosa and send her sprawling into the thorny vines once more.

“Oh my goodness!” She exclaimed with mock surprise. Then she stopped and frowned as if in great thought. It was a rather sudden change, but her mind had finally elicited on something fun for other people to enjoy. She skipped, suddenly back to good humor and whacked her ball once more before saying. =/\= Computer, Yellow Alert=/\=

“I always liked the color yellow.”
