Thank goodness Dira had kept talking. It gave Zoi a moment to collect herself and return to the conversation at hand. “I have definitely seen that Betazoid therapists struggle more in this than the average therapist. I suppose its the difference between being sympathetic and empathic. Betazoid therapists are a huge stereotype in Star Fleet. If you are Betazoid, most would assume therapist of some kind. But I actually find that they are also very good in command and security positions.”

Dira nodded in agreement. After all, she really hoped the same for herself.

“My extra sensory perception is not nearly as powerful as a Betazoid’s and for that, I think I am grateful. I wouldn’t want to know the extent of the pain some people feel, my mother being one of them. It’s already hard enough with my limited abilities.”

She was about to respond, but the server returned with their brandy laced jestral tea. “Thank you,” Myqian said with a grateful bow of her head.

The cup sat warm in her hands, spreading through her fingertips into her palm. Lifting it to her lips, she took a deeper sip than others might, since she knew what she was in for. The brandy was very prominent, but rather than being overpowering, it blended beautifully with the tea. The scent played a role too, with the floral fruit of the tea hitting first, followed by the depth of the brandy. A relaxed smile settled over her features after she swallowed.

Zoi sat forward when the tea was served as well as their dessert choices. The chocolate cake with raspberries in chocolate hardshell bowl as a topper and the Hazelnut dacquiose looked decadent.

Returning her attention to Haven, the therapist in her couldn’t help but have its say. “I can imagine that familial bonds will always complicate things when you’re at all psi-positive. How have you coped after a visit with her?”

Zoi took a bite of her dacquiose and closed her eyes for a moment, moaning in sheer pleasure at the flavors as she chewed. While Dira had gone for the tea first, Zoi had gone for the dessert. She had heard the question, but let the moment sit to the side as she enjoyed her dessert. Then, she finally opened her eyes and licked her lips to catch and crumbles that may have fallen on them. “Well, I dig into work mostly. Feeling productive physically and mentally is a lot of help in handling the emotional backlash of a visit with her. I also keep in contact with her doctors. They are as much mine as they are hers in some way, especially the therapists. It doesn’t help 100% but it helps enough for me to function. I suppose time does the rest.”

Her piercing dark eyes expressed what her words would not. She wasn’t buying it. “Sometimes it can. Sometimes, not so much,” she said as she set down the tea and pulled over the decadent cake.

For a moment Dira just took it in. It was like a challenge. She could tell it was rich and it could very well be too much. But she wasn’t someone who overindulged very often so it became a question of should she just go for it? Or not. In this case, the answer was most definitely yes. She set the chocolate bowl to the side for the moment and cut the end off with her fork. As everything hit her tastebuds, she all but sighed in happiness. It was everything it was promised to be.

Pushing the plate towards Zoi with some excitement, Dira said adamantly, “Okay, you have to try this. I don’t know what kind of chocolate they used, but it’s amazing!”
