Ria instinctively let go of Achilleas hand even though they had every right to hold hands. And thus felt awful about it right away. After a brief apologetic glance at him, she looked shyly up at Dira and said meekly, “You don’t have to apologise.” She wondered who the other woman was, but not in a jealous, but in a purely curious way. Her guess was that she was from the Ogawa as well as she seemed to know Achilleas. Yet she wasn’t from the science department. Ria felt sure she’d remember her if they had met before. Of course that sill left four other departments or she could be the First Officer, which part of her hoped wasn’t the case.

Feeling a spike of anxiety and a sense of loss, Achilleas brought his hand back to his side of the table. His slightly sad emotions shifted to surprise upon seeing the speaker though. “Commander. I’m surprised to see you here, though you of course have the right to go wherever you wish. I knew we were like to see other Starfleet personnel but with it being a large crew I didn’t think I’d run into someone I know.” He was rambling a bit out of a feeling of apprehension and guilt. While they had gotten official permission to be together, he didn’t think their very first date would lead them to a possible confrontation. He wasn’t sure that Commander Myqian had even heard from the Captain yet, so this could go very badly.

Her expression was warm. She understood that she had caught them off guard, and their emotions told her much. It wasn’t her wish to make them feel badly in anyway. “It’s alright, I understand.”

He took a breath to steady himself and steel his resolve before he continued a little slower and a lot less rambling. “Where are my manners? Commander Myqian this is Ensign Iyun Riani. Ensign Iyun is one of the science officers in my department. Ria this is Commander Dira Myqian and she is our executive officer. I had a nice conversation with the Commander shortly after she joined us on the starbase.”

Her dark eyes flicked between them for a moment and it was clear that this was news to her. But Dira had not been a therapist for twenty years without being able to mask her own emotions. And she did want to meet all the junior officers and crew on the Ogawa. Offering Riani a bow of her head, she smiled. “It’s nice to meet you Ensign. I’m hoping to get a chance to meet all of the departments, but as you can imagine it’s been a little more awkward than it might usually,” she said with a lopsided grin.

Commander Myqian, XO

“It’s nice to meet you too, Commander,” Ria replied rather flustered, her cheeks turning red. Not wanting to be rude she asked without properly thinking it through, “Would you care to join us?” As soon as the words had left her mouth she realised that Achilleas, who already felt bad about the location, might not be too happy with her asking Dira to stay. With her head slightly bowed she looked at him and tried to communicate wordlessly that she was sorry and that she hoped he wouldn’t be upset or angry with her. If only the floor would open beneath her and swallow her!

Achilleas felt a small pang of regret in his chest, but this was the choice Ria made and he was determined to support her. Besides, the evening was awkward enough as it was, how could it possibly get any worse? “Yes Commander, please join us if you’re free. An extra bit of company is never a bad thing.” He smiled at Dira. While he wanted himself and Ria to have a nice dinner alone, the environment was likely to not accommodate that. In that case maybe a third wheel would help keep them on their best behavior or at the very least help break the ice.

CSO Petrakos

This was one of those times where being a telepath (and not just empathic) was actually a hindrance. It wasn’t that she was trying to read them, but their thoughts and emotions were so mixed that Dira was having a hard time deciphering what they really wanted. She had no doubt they wanted to be alone, but they seemed genuine in inviting her to stay. She had every intention of letting them be, but now she gazed at them with a fair bit of confusion. “Uhhh....” She ran a hand over her black kinky hair that was gathered slightly with gold scarf in the same fabric of her skirt. She exhaled and then gave a lopsided smile. “Alright. For a few minutes, Then I’ll let you have your evening.”

Turning, Dira spotted a free chair at a nearby table and borrowed it with permission of the table’s occupants. Setting it on the outside and hoping she wouldn’t be too much in the way of the servers, Dira took a seat and took in the pair. “Full disclosure, I’m a telepath, so you don’t have to hide things from me or be ashamed. I’m not passing judgement here, nor do I know either of you well enough to have anything to say about your relationship. But, as an experienced therapist, I can tell this is rather new, yes?”

Commander Myqian, XO

Ria’s cheeks turned scarlet and she slightly ducked her head. “Yes,” she said just loud enough to be heard over the music. “We talked to the Captain earlier … to get permission … because … Starfleet regulations.” This was embarrassing! Why couldn’t she even form a simple sentence? What must the First Officer and Achilleas think?!

Now some years ago, maybe three or four, had passed since he had left Bajor. She had gone her way to follow her dreams to the stars and he had his own wandering heart. Neither had gone the same direction and paths had not crossed again. At 18, Bode had been a tall and lanky young man, not yet grown into manhood or his fabulously balanced symmetrical facial features. Just crossing the threshold of six feet in height, his frame seemed more suited for the flow of muscles across the barrel of his chest and arms. Even if she didn’t recognise the man he had grown into, the boyish grin remained the same. Bode pushed back a stray dark curl that had draped across his greenish blue eyes, smiling as he approached the trio. Leaning his knuckles onto the table between the CSO and XO he looked directly at Riani. “Well its a small universe. Is that you Ri?”

Bode from Bajor

It was in that moment of discomfort and embarassment, that Bode came to their table and greeted her. Raising her gaze, she looked at him in utter confusion. Clearly he seemed to know her, but right now she just couldn’t place his face at all.

Achilleas wasn’t sure who this person was. Their coming out of nowhere and barging in without a ‘by your leave’ honestly irked him a bit, especially when they ignored everybody else and started talking to Ria. Speaking of Ria, he looked and saw that she looked super uncomfortable and this upset him. He placed his hands on the table and pushed himself up into a standing position. “Excuse me but who are you?” He said to divert this person’s attention.

CSO Petrakos

Ria’s eyes wander back and forth between Achilleas and Bode a few times and at least once they also flickered towards Dira. She didn’t quite understand what was going on and was still trying to place the newcomer. She was starting to have an inkling that she indeed knew him. From Bajor? Probably. He was Bajoran after all. Or maybe from Deep Space Nine? That was just as likely. All the while she tried to figure out what to say. But she couldn’t seem to think of anything.
