“Fair is fair,” Dira said airily, twirling her fork her fingers before plunging it (albeit gently) into the delicate sponge. She carefully pulled off a reasonable bite and popped it in her mouth rather matter-of -factly. It was much lighter than her cake and she appreciate the beautiful nuttiness of the filling.

Swallowing, Myqian twirled her fork some more and sighed happily yet again. “That is very good as well. I don’t think I’ve had that nutty flavour before but I’m definitely adding it to my list of things I enjoy,” she said as she pulled back her cake. But instead of digging into the cake again, she popped a raspberry into her mouth and had a bit of her spiked tea.

Zoi grinned and took the opportunity while Dira ate her bite of the dacqiouse to sip her teach and watch the reaction from behind her cup. The tea was lovely and the kick from the added shot was an unexpected but delightful addition.it warmed her all the way to her gut.

“The tea was an excellent suggestion. I think I shall never drink jestral tea in any other way again. Brandy just adds so much to it.”

Dira laughed. “Well, you’re welcome. I enjoy it with the brandy in the evening, but the tea on its own is quite lovely too. When I’m not drinking coffee, that is.”

“So,” she said with curiosity. “Leaving behind family like me, or close friends, or partners with this new assignment?”

It would be a lie to say that she was taken aback by the question. It was a perfectly reasonable one given their conversation thus far. But it was the answer that still sat odd with her at times. “Umm… well, not really. I’ve been in Starfleet so long now that my parents are used to me being out here. They’re both still on Vega. And the one good friend I’ve made in recent years I brought with me,” she said with a slight smirk. “Our new chief Engineer I poached from the Calypso. Captain Siterra and I were friends enough that she really didn’t mind,” she said with a light laugh. “It’s kind of nice starting a new assignment with someone you already know well.”

Zoi knew of the new chief engineer position being filled by someone Dira had served with on the Calypso. She had done a bit of reading on them both when their assignments to the Ogawa had been confirmed. Having gone through many transitions to new assignments, Zoi knew what it felt like to start from scratch. It was a relief to serve with at least one person you knew already.

“And no partners,” Myqian said simply, her voice light and her face slightly impassive. No partners. Not that there hadn’t been a moment here and there, but there hadn’t been anyone solidly in her life in a romantic way for quite some time now. Whether it was the past holding her back or just a lack of compatibility was anyone’s guess. She certainly didn’t know.

Commander Myqian, XO

Zoi simply nodded and sipped her tea before continuing to keep the conversation light and in that getting to know one another phase. “I did see that you poached the new Chief Engineer. I’m glad it wasnt contentious to do so. You never know when you might have to serve with someone you burned. But clean slates do have their advantages too.”

“They do,” Dira said with a nod. “And I wouldn’t have brought Bob with me if i thought it would have been an actual problem. But he was well overdue for a promotion and deserved the opportunity,” she said, shrugging slightly, despite the tiny bit of tension that creeped unbidden into her features. She dug back into the cake, focusing on the wonderful taste and delightful tartness from the raspberries.

Commander Myqian, XO

She nodded approval and wondered how much Dira would stand up for something if it meant enough to her. Would she purposefully burn a bridge? She seemed kind and thoughtful and like many psychologists and psychiatrists, she had that level of evaluation and skepticism that was needed for those jobs. Being in Command however, required grit, the ability to make touch decisions, and follow through. Was Dira the kind of person who had that mettle? Zoi didn’t know but surely she would not have been given the promotion to XO, if Star Fleet had no faith in those attributes. “In the wide and varied world of labels, what labels would you apply to yourself?”

Haven, CoS

Once again, Myqian was surprised. Pleasantly, of course. “Oh, wow. Uh…” she said, though there was no stammering. Sure, she was thrown off guard, but it was in the best possible way. “Hmmm, I suppose there are many, and some that don’t apply now but have in the past that are still important. So… daughter, telepath, mixed-species, explorer, friend, companion, health practitioner, spiritual. I also would consider myself pansexual, that is, I date a variety of people irregardless of gender.” She shrugged. It was an important detail, since it determined how she interacted with people on a romantic level, but it was also something that just… was.

Interesting. She sipped her tea and listened. Most labels would be obvious or stated in her files. That much was easy to figure out. However, she wondered at the use of companion as well as friend. Most chose one or the other. Spiritual and pansexual were self explanatory, though spirituality was quite a diverse label and complicated.

“Uh.. what else? I am a reader, an artist when the mood strikes me, a swimmer, sometimes competitive, and”-Dira let out a chuckle-“a little bit of a slob,” she said, her cheeks warming as she admitted what might be one of her more obvious flaws.

Commander Myqian, XO

Zoi had to grin at Dira’s admission of being a slob. She sipped her tea and then placed the empty cup before her. The brandy warmed her and brought a nice flush to her cheeks though not as much as Dira’s currently. She took up her fork and gestured with it as she spoke. “Well well well, I did not expect a flaw among your labels. Most people never apply them openly. I have so many questions. I guess we will start with your admission of being a slob. Are you just a bit terrible at keeping your space clutter free? Keeping clothes off the floor and dishes back to the replicator? PaDDs strewn where you last left them? Or are you way worse?”
