Facing his own physical vulnerability was something Ralin Tell tended to find rather distressing. A man with deep psychological trauma which he made no bones of his struggle or need for support with, he prided himself on maintaining his zenithal physical condition and athleticism. It was the basis of his career and the outlet that focussed his disparate sides. Nonetheless, he was a man who would spend his life, at least for the forseeable future, recovering from the physical trauma of his joining.

All of this weighed on Ralin’s mind as he approached the starbase’s sickbay, ever aware not only of his issues but of his own responses to them. Stepping into the medical area, the Trill stationed himself in the centre of the space, waiting for someone to gravitate to him as he found medics tended to.

Ensign Ralin Tell - Security

It was Solal’s first day officially on duty aboard the Ogawa. The half Vulcan had convinced himself he wasn’t excited… merely looking forward to the opportunity to work. He’d just barely gotten to work when he noticed an Ensign stood near the medical bay’s door, who appeared to be waiting. Stopping by the Ensign, he said, “Were you needing something?”

Ralin waited stilly as the doctor approached, lightly tracking him with his eyes. “Yes doctor. A’m Ensign Tell reporting for duty for Ogawa, here for my tests and that.” Ralin’s put conscious effort into forming his language well while on duty but the intimidation of the infirmary was enough to rattle that aspect of his composure undone.

Solal nodded, and in a swift motion, gestured to a random biobed. “Have a seat. I can handle that for you.” He said, and he grabbed a tricorder to go along with his PaDD. On the PaDD, he pulled up the medical file of Ensign Tell. “First assignment?” He asked.

The ensign effortlessly lifted himself to assume a seat on the bed. Typically not the most talkative of fellows, Ralin committed himself to engaging the doctor in small talk. Alunah Tell had frequently utilised the concept as a weapon against nervousness and Ralin had attempted to do the same in the few years since his joining. Despite his efforts, he had been met with a series of rather cold and uninterested physicians. For that to change with a Vulcan, Ralin thought, would be an amusing irony. Even before he had responded to the doctor’s first question, it seemed, the distraction had begun functioning as intended. “It might as well be”, he sighed,”the Anteres shipyards. A year. A full year watching ships not move.” The Trill looked the Vulcan in the eyes. “How long have you been on the Ogawa?” After inspecting their surroundings, he corrected himself. “How long were you on the Ogawa?”

Solal suppressed a grin. “Sounds… interesting.” He said, in his best ‘Vulcan’ tone. “I have not yet been on the Ogawa. I have been with her crew for little enough time that I arrived to the star base, much like yourself.” He said. Solal was not the best at small talk either. Even when he allowed his human side to show, he tended to be quiet. Where he was expending all his energy trying to control his emotions, he good as well be a statue. He didn’t even really know what to say when he was trying to have small talk with someone. “Is there anything that needs to be added to your file?”
