Ralin wriggled slightly as he sat for his scan. Sedentariness did not become the athletic man. “So?”

Immediately the scan revealed two distinct brain wave patterns associated with a pair of cerebral nuclei. Familiarity with Trill physiology would reveal that this was a standard trait of a joined Trill but also that the man’s nervous system more broadly was overly disjointed. The Tell symbiote sat in the lower half of his torso, a complex web of nerves connecting it to its host. Among this network of nerves some connections seemed overly serviced, with nerve tissue almost seeming to have doubled up on itself, while other connections a joined Trill would usually possess seemed absent. Additionally, there was evidence of past organ failure in both the heart and liver along with signs of treatment to stimulate their recoveries.

Older wounds were also revealed, seemingly chronicling a long history of injuries receiving poor treatment. Phasor wounds to the back, chest and right leg were indicated, along with fractures of the collarbone and left arm, all seemingly having been treated with medicine at least a century or two behind Starfleet standards.

All these detections were of static conditions. The only indications of anything exceptional in the man’s health on this particular day were elevated blood pressure and cortisol levels.

The findings agreed with what Solal found in Ensign Tell’s medical file for his history. As for his present health, Solal saw nothing serious. “Your blood pressure is a bit high. I would watch your stress levels,” he said. Unlike most Vulcans, he had a bit more experience with stress related symptoms than he’d ever let on. “Besides that, I’d put you as fit for duty.”

“The saftee and wellness of our whoal crew, that’s my job. Stress comes wi that. With respect, doctor…” The man rose up, strong arms effortlessly pushing him several inches off the bed as he looked down intimidatingly at Solal while still off his feet. “Noted.” He fell back into a more relaxed posture. “A’ll try to relax more.” A slim smile might have been vaguely visible on his lips. Perhaps it was merely imagined.

Solal seemed unaffected by Tell’s intimidating posture, and he simply stated, “See that you do. Whole crew or not, you won’t be much good with a stroke.” The statement was one more of fact than anything else, but the look Solal gave Tell was a stern one. “I do look forward to working with you, Ensign,” said Solal finally, nodding to Tell.

Ralin uh-huhed as he slid off the bed. “Tell me Doctor, do ya practice any of they famous Vulcan martial arts?”

“I have studied them. I intend to practice and master the arts within the holodeck,” Solal told him.

“Exsellant! Well”, Ralin pounded on his solid chest a few times, “you have a punching bag in me.” He grinned. “Taking hits. Thas part o’ training for me.”
