Ensign Tell’s steps fell heavily as he approached the office the Ogawa’s chief of security had been assigned temporarily, his final appointment for the day. As important as meeting the counsellor had been to him, this is why he was here: to serve. Having been assigned to shipyards after graduation, this was the Trill’s first real opportunity to do the work he’d had in mind when he began educating himself in hopes of being accepted to the academy. Any good deed, any positivity he could bring into the world, great or small, was to be the sole focus of his career. Moreover, his career was to be his life. The harm and evil his host being had helped perpetuate was beyond what he believed he could ever make amends for. In the absence of that possibility, he knew of nothing else to do but bring as much positivity into the moral universe as he could in the time he had. His assignment to a medical vessel was an opportunity he intended to embrace with a fiery passion and this is where it began.

Thoughts racing, Ralin spent a minute simply standing before the officer door. Slowly, he raised a finger to the door chime. A few more seconds passed as he collected himself before pressing the control firmly.

((OOC: I am so sorry I missed this.))

OOC: No worries! :)

IC: Zoi looked up from her PaDD as the door chime sounded. “Come in.” She said, cuing the doors to open. The Chief of Security was looking over the plans for the new USS Ogawa vessel. There was much to learn, not only for herself, but the security crew as well. All new tactical specs, new layout, new engineering specs plus how she was going to cover all her shifts in all the various places. In general, she was excited about the challenge. When she saw the new Ensign she had been expecting in her doorway, she smiled. “Ah, Ensign Ralin Tell. Welcome to Starbase 157. I apologize for not meeting you at the dock. I just got the specs for our new ship and got a bit lost in them. Please have a seat.”

She lifted her hand to the seat in front of her desk, offering him the chair there. Then she moved her hand to pick up her cup of coffee and took a sip, only to find that it was cold and she had forgotten to add sweetener to it. Where on Utopia Planitia had her brain gone? She sighed heavily and went over to the Replicator to recycle the cup and start fresh. “Raktijino hot with cinnamon, cream and sugar.” Soon the smell of the coffee like liquid filled her small office. “Now then, Orders please?”

Haven, CoS

Tell halted and nodded firmly in greeting in a manner so militaristic he might have well have stamped his foot or saluted. “Thas quite alright ma’am. Thank you.” Deliberately choreographed movements followed as he found and lowered himself into the seat.

Ah, the freshness of youth, she thought as she watched him take his seat. Eventually, he would relax, but often brand new Ensigns acted this way. She didn’t mind it. Sometimes it reminded older officers of the protocols that they did love once upon a time. And their enthusiasm was often helpful.

“Oh, my thank you. Black coffee please.” The obvious muscles of the man’s dark neck rolled against one another as he smoothly pivoted his head, examining the space for clues as to the COS’s personality.

The office was a makeshift one with very little in the way of personal belongings. There was a picture with her and presumably her mother. They were smiling together during one of her mother’s more lucid moments in a pretty park, sitting on a bench. There were a few plants, but nothing exotic. She picked up the newly created cup of coffee and handed it to the Ensign.

“Thank ya” the dark skinned man responded without so much as a faint curl of the lips to suggest a smile.

The young man did not look as though he had a PaDD with his orders, so she leaned against her desk and picked up one from the few on her desk and brought up his record. Of course she had examined it earlier, but a refresher was never a bad thing. “Alright. I do have to say that currently we are temporarily stationed on the Starbase until such time as our new ship arrives. We sort of… broke our last one.” She grimaced.

Haven was correct in her observation. In fact, Tell had been fully aware of the state of the Ogawa prior to arriving on the starbase. However, he hadn’t had access to the new shematics until he was handed them.

“We had hoped it could be repaired, but apparently we were mistaken. At any rate, that means that the specs you likely examined on the way here will be out of date.” She sipped from her steaming hot mug before fully standing and walking around her desk to retrieve a new PaDD with the specs of their new ship on it. “You will need to study this set and become familiar with it.”

Haven, CoS

“Thank ya again ma’am. Elron Tell was the chief engineer o’ a Starfleet ship, a’ll find ma way around this thing in no time.” The man’s lips met his fresh drink and something seemed to activate in his eyes. He near instantly seemed less detached. “So!” His voice seemed… different somehow, as if it had wholly shifted to higher in his throat. “What sort of missions di we go awn? I am hopin’ to save a lotta lives here.” He continued to sip at his drink as he eyed Haven. The jade pupils seemed to deepen in some strange way as he became invigorated.

She watched him, as she watched most people, but unlike most people she wasn’t one to comment on everything she observed. Zoi walked back around the desk and handed him the PaDD. HIs fingerprint and security code would turn it back on whenever he wished to peruse the specs. She sipped her coffee again before answering him and leaning against her desk again, almost sitting on it. “We are a hospital ship. A lot of what we do is saving lives. Search and Rescue, medical assistance to outposts and small terraformed encampments, evacuation, containment and eradication of disease, medical aid to civilian populations during conflict, searching for new things for medicinal use, etc. I wouldnt call this an action heavy ship, but we see action in our own way. To be honest, I am fairly new here and even more new as the Chief of Security.”

Haven, CoS

“Thank ya”, the man traded in return for the PaDD before he set it down to his side. “I look forward ta reading up on the ship and its past missions. Or the missions of the ship gone by. You knoaw.” Ralin shifted forwards and clasped his hands on Haven’s own desk, his eyes latching on firmly to the CoS’s. “Tell me, please if you will, how a can best serve you and this ship. What do you need from me most of all?” His words carried the great weight of value that Tell put on this assignment.
