Nodding slightly, but more to herself, Dira smiled. “Well, funny that, I’ve been having the same problem. And it’s hard because I am normally so composed and I’m generally so private at first that I’ve been struggling to reconcile what’s happening to me. And for all that I ever counselled my patients to find ways to let the past go, I’m staring at my own reckoning. It’s uncomfortable, but I truly feel that if I can just make it over this hurdle that the rewards would be more incredible than I could have ever imagined.”

While Zoi was happy to hear that Dira was struggling a little with the same problem she was having, for they really had to be talking about each other, she was loath to cause the other woman strife. It sobered her a bit and helped in reining in her infatuation. She thought about this for a moment before she could bring herself to reply, allowing the trail to guide them both along its route.

She did not know what history Dira had, but she remembered Dira mentioning baggage before. Some people had a past that they struggled with daily. Zoi didn’t have any of them in regards to intimate relationships. Her life was far from easy but relationships had never been the complicated part. She looked over at her running partner and gave her a kind close lipped smile before she said, “That can be quite difficult. Sometimes, its a stream to cross and sometimes its a mountain to climb. I know I am not the cause, but I am sorry for any discomfort this causes you. I will gladly be a listening ear should you desire one.”

She cast a warm smile in Zoi’s direction. “I appreciate that. The truth is that it hadn’t truly been an issue until now but it was inevitable that it would come up.” She let her strides echo her heartbeat for a moment, and simply took in the energy of Haven’s presence.

“It’s not a conversation for now,” Myqian said after a few more moments, “but I feel you deserve the disclosure. But ten years ago, the woman I was engaged to was killed on the same away mission that I was on. The intensity of the grief has long passed, but small amounts rise to the surface now and again, especially when my… feelings are triggered. I second-guess myself for a moment, but then I have to remember that it has been ten years and that I still have a wonderful life ahead of me filled with wonderful surprises,” she said, smiling widely at Zoi.

Zoi was silent for some time as she took in this revelation. Living through the death of a partner was a very difficult thing. Though Zoi had never lived through it herself, she had known others who had. For some, the process through mourning and into living life with a new partner was short. For others, it was long. Some would never try to find or want to find a new partner. She felt rather lucky that Dira was not in the latter group.

She felt the kind of sadness that one should feel at hearing a friend struggling with grief, but Dira’s smile and final comment was enough to pull her out of it. Her smile gave Zoi a bit of hope that they are on a good path for them both. “Ten years is as long or short as you feel it is. I can imagine that grief has its own timeline. BUt I am glad you are feeling positive about your future life. Perhaps thats the endorphins of a good run?” she said with a grin
