Evie walked up to Mathias’ quarters. This was going to be a hard sell but a deal she had to close. So much rided on it. “WWTD,” Evie said out loud with a smile on her face. What Would Teller Do was her semi loose strategy for how to handle things that probably were not going to go her way. Many things about Aedan Teller, Evie thought needed to be changed but the man’s ability to convince people to do his bidding was one thing she admired. Channeling her nephew’s mindset she palmed the door control and waited for her son to let her in.

The door swooshed open and her son stood before her wearing his Starfleet uniform as usual. “Hi Mom, come on in,” he pleasantly said before making his way over to the living room portion of his quarters. The matching set of a couch and two chairs was comfortable and stylish, but his spacious quarters clearly lacked a woman’s touch with its lack of decorations and bare walls.

“So, what brings you here this evening?” he asked as he sat down. Probably she was trying to create some headache for him, but he never knew exactly what the headache was going to be.

“I was hoping you could help me,” Evie said taking a seat on the couch. “Remember when you were small and we would go hiking for the weekend. You and your sister used to always think you discovered something new in the underbrush,” Evie let out a small laugh as she leaned back into the cushions. “Member the time she found poison oak and brought a whole bunch of it all gathered up like a bouquet because she thought the colors were pretty.” Evie laughed hard remembering the event. At the time it was not so funny but fifteen years later it was a great memory.

Mathias smiled at the memory. “I remember it well. Ciara was covered head to toe in that rash for about a week. She could barely move. Oh, those were good times,”

“I wanted to go to Gamma Tiltium and find some specimens of new plant life. I miss doing that since I left Ravis VI. Would you come with me? I know you are busy but you are my son. I love you and miss spending time with you,” Evie said reaching over and placing a hand on Mathias’ knee patting it like he was still a small child. Looking at her son Evie felt nothing but pride in him. He had worked so hard and come so far for his age.

Mathias thought it over before answering. “Well, I have been pretty busy. But I suppose I could get away for a day. There isn’t a catch, is there?” While the woman did clearly love him, he knew all to well that there was usually something she was up to.

“Yes that you are stuck hanging out with me for a day,” Evie said with a happy laugh. “So pack your bags. We leave tomorrow,” Evie said patting his knee. “Get a good nights rest. You are gonna need it. Sleep tight, my love. I will be back with breakfast in the morning,” Evie said heading to the door. She was not going to push her luck hanging around any longer than she needed. Mathias had said yes and in under five minutes. This was the best outcome she could have hoped for.

“Wait, tomorrow? I run an Outpost with hundreds of people on it. I need some kind of notice. Tomorrow doesn’t work. I have a meeting to go over the renovation progress in the afternoon and I’ve got crew evals to get through. And why would I need to pack one bag, let alone mulitple bags?” Mathias felt that sinking feeling in his stomach. He never could tell if it was easier to say yes or no to her. Sometimes just going along with whatever she wanted was the least painful route to go. At least things got over quicker that way.

“I spoke to that Gunny fellow. You know the dashingly sophisticated man with the rugged jaw, amazing hair and piercing eyes,” Evie said flashing a smile. “If I were a few years younger,” she winked at Mathias. “Any way he is able to take care of the Outpost so we are free. Now remember to bring some wool socks. You never know how cold it will get there at night. Oh and an extra blanket. Meet me at the hangar at 7 am sharp. Don’t be later,” Evie said again heading to the door only stopping to ask one final questions, “unless you need me to help you pack?”
