Jessica’s eyes widened a bit trying to process what the woman was saying to her. All the words were clear but it was so if they were on fast forward in Jessica’s brain. Aedan had warned her that she might be working to hard. Right now, she couldn’t disagree but she had a job to do. “Okay so you have archaeological cargo,” Jessica pulled the ramble of information apart in her head like a knot in a rope. “That requires these forms,” she pulled up the documents on a PaDD looking at the woman.

“You also should get checked out by medical before you enter the Outpost. Helps keep ilnesses in check. Are you feeling okay,” she asked the woman.

Lt. Commander Jessica Vaughn XO

The woman nodded, “Of course. My friends tell me that I can get a little to flustered spmetimesandthenistarttalkingreallyfastwjichmakesmequitehardtounderstand....” This went on again before she finally took a breath, “and some of this cargo is very fragile, so I must warn you that it has to be handled with the upmost caution if it is being inspected.”

Mr Snuggles (GM)

“I will make sure our inspectors use kid gloves,” Jessica promised the woman.

“You know” Duncan said coming up beside the XO, “She kind of sounds like you when you sneak three cups of coffee that your pretending is Ice Tea and decide to express your complete over-it-ness about whatever topic you decide you’re over today.” Seeing as he was at work, the Chief Science Officer was completely straight faced and apparently devoid of any hint of sarcasm. The fact he had put on his ‘Lordly’ English accent however was a key identifier that he was completely teasing. Duncan never used that accent that identified his heritage with any seriousness unless he was actually stuck doing that kind of business. “It is rather enduring and exhausting at the same time, funny that.”

Lt Rhodes, CSO

“Are you saying I am a cat,” Jessica looked at Duncan with a smirk. The two had been friends for years and he easily dealt with her known and sporadic neuroses. It was nice having someone like that in your life.

Lt. Commander Jesscia Vaughn, XO

Toveka stepped into the cargo bay and glanced around. Spotting her supervisor, she nodded and moved towards him. As a pause came in the conversation, she handed him a small PADD with specs on it. “You wanted to know what containment fields and bays here available. I have checked all these and they are all capable of max containment to the load and size specified with each listing, Sir.” There was information on containment fields from the smallest cup or two to areas half the size of the cargo bay. All of them rated to the max shielding capability of the ship and all also linked to the transporters in case of need for emergency beam outs.

The half Romulan clasped her hands before her and glanced around at the myriad of containers and strangers all over the room.

The woman watched this entire conversation, entranced by their back and forth while clutching the Padd to her chest. As soon as the half-Romulan had entered the conversation, she spoke, “That reminds me, there are a few objects that I need to be contained with a little more security that usual. They are quite rare, and I would hate for them to fall into the wrong....” Suddenly, her eyes were drawn to a precariously stacked container. As it started to shift, she shouted, “OHMYGOSHIT’SFALLING!” True to her shout, the container precariously tilted, and then fell off it’s stack.

Mr Snuggles (GM)

Toveka turned to the woman and nodded. She was about to ask what else was needed when the poor woman looked about ready to bolt. Turning to the warning, she managed to see the container fall, unable to get to it to stop it. Once it hit the floor, though, she was the first to react. Rushing to the area it fell, she went to check to see what the container had originally held, as well as if anyone she had seen nearby had been hurt by its falling or the contents.

Luckily for those around the area, the woman’s scream had alerted them to the falling object. As the container had fallen on it’s side, the top had been unlatched by the force of the fall, and certain items had already started to spill out. Seeing the state of some of the items, the woman ran forward before grabbing up pieces of a broken urn, “No no no no, this wasn’t supposed to happen.” Her eyes darted over a stone tablet with a large crack down the centre, “These were all in perfect condition, and now they are ruined!”

Mr Snuggles (GM)

Toveka moved up beside the woman and glanced at the pieces. “Ma’am… I know they can never be what they were. But we can scan the pieces and replicate them to the smallest detail. If you need to study them, for cataloging, that is.” She was not the kind to be able to offer comfort. But she stood at the woman’s side to see if she could be of any assistance, anyway.

Toveka took a moment to glance around and make sure everyone was all right. Glancing to the security and others from the ship in the room, she saw no one else taking the move, so she did. She raised her voice enough to be heard thru the room. “We need to see to the security of the containers. Restrain them to the wall or force shield them if need be. Be sure the shields will hold but not harm anything that tips towards them.” She glanced to the others of the guests. “Is everyone else all right?”

While the woman continued to sniffle by the crate, the man in charge of the unloading approached along with a very apprehensive looking male human, “My men are fine, and I have your culprit right here.”

At this statement, the woman turned her eyes on him, and her eyes hardened. She did not say anything as of yet, but her hands clenched, and her body started to shake.

Pushed forward, the man glanced up from the floor at the Star-fleet officers, “I was the one who placed that box on top of the stack, but gosh if I know how it got that unbalanced.” He lowered his head, “I know that I haven’t been doing as well lately, and I have been making small slip ups, but I made sure that it was properly set up, honest!”

Mr Snuggles (GM)

Toveka frowned. She glanced from one to the other of the guests in charge. The man holding the culprit seemed ready to wring the man’s neck for his carelessness. The woman looked like she wanted him to die a slower, much more painful death. “I fear what you did is not in my power to judge. These cargo pieces belonged to your crew.” It was not that she was ignoring him, it was merely that it wasn’t her place to forgive him for another slip up, or punish him for his insolence.

“How badly was this damaged,” Jessica asked the woman who seemed in charge of the chaos around them. Clearly, it was broke with the large crack down it but whether or not it could be easily fixed was the question.

Lt. Commander Jessica Vaughn, XO

“As Lieutenant Brine says, we can replicate the exact match for it for research.” Then Duncan looked at the woman directly while tilting his head slightly at Jessica, and flicking a glance to Brine. “That is of course unless research wasn’t the main consideration of this operation, because theft of relics from the area previously the domain of the Romulan Star Empire is illegal, all artifacts belong to the Romulan survivors. Placing a box insecurely is hardly a crime, and won’t affect research one bit. However, it will affect the profit from selling the item. Commander perhaps we should bring in Security and hold all these items for inspection. Lieutenant Brine here can lead the team examining the relics for Stolen property.”

Lt Rhodes, CSO

Toveka hadn’t even considered they were possibly being stolen. The fact that so many pieces had been recovered had given her pause to thank the Ones that listened that at least something of her culture would be preserved. But as Duncan sent for a security team and placed her in charge, a dark look filled her eyes. “Where did these come from and who authorized their removal?” She clenched her teeth as a myriad of other questions filled her mind. She didn’t want to appear confrontational, but suddenly the thought of the pillaging of the remains of hey people stuck in Toveka’s mind as a horror equal in horror to the loss the planet itself.

No one else was likely to see anything more than a slightly upset Romulan before them, mad because they may be thieves. But Duncan would know her well enough that if he looked, true rage was in her eyes and stiffness of her body. Probably more anger than he’d ever seen in the normally even tempered scientist.
