OMAP Party: Evelyn's Brewing House Grand Opening - Lily and Duncan

Duncan raised an eyebrow at the crumpet and tweaked a slight grin at her, then pushed the plate in her direction and placed his chin in the palm of his hand, elbow resting in on the table in an uncharacteristic, for him, pose. “Go ahead, enjoy it. You have to keep up your strength tonight, it looks like you’ve been run off your feet” he said to her, hinting at her earlier attempt at a foot massage, then his grin switched to a smirk. “Seeing as it seems just a wee bit difficult to learn your name,” Duncan said to her, absently stirring the tea he had left untouched, “I guess I am going to have to give you a name. How about it? Maybe I’ll just call you Crumpet.”

Lt Duncan Rhodes, CSO

“My god, how did you guess it? I mean that is my unofficial nickname. My given name is Truly. Truly Scrumptious,” Lily waited for the laugh. When she didn’t get any response she leaned in some as if encouraging Duncan to catch on to her joke.

“Um” Duncan said, and pushed the cup of tea further to one side. “Were your parents raging Space Hippies or did they just not like you?” He had absolutely no idea where she was going with it, but he was pretty sure it wasn’t her real name.

Sighing she decided to help Duncan along. “Okay so singing is not one of my strong suits but for you I will toss you a bone,” she cleared her throat.

“Oh, no” Duncan said, looking around them at the other packed tables, “you don’t need to do that, really.”

Truly scrumptious
You too are truly scrumptious
Scrumptious as the breeze across the bay
When you’re smiling
It’s so disarming
So beguiling

Listening to her sing, just a wee bit off key, he smiled at the lady at the next table who was looking at them and gave her a small wave before placing his chin in the palm of his hand and giving Lily his attention.

You’re the answer to my wishes
And I shan’t forget this lovely day
My heart beats so unruly
Because I love you truly
Honestly, truly I do

After singing the last lyric of the famous children’s song she let out a huge groan. “Geezy peezy Duncan you call yourself an Englishman. How do you not know the song from the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? I mean it was made by one of your brethren. Dick Van Dyke,” she stared at him almost dumbfounded. “See I made a joke playing on you calling me crumpet because the character Truly’s father owned the sweet shop in town,” she shook her head seeing everything going over his head the more she tried to explain it.

“I guess I must have missed that one” he admitted, “Do you think they have it as a Holo-Novel? Does it come with a mute setting?” he grinned at her as he admitted his ignorance, “I’m afraid I didn’t have much time for movies when I was little, and I never heard of that name before. It’s rather an unfortunate one isn’t it? Maybe his parents were the raging space hippies.”

“You sir need to get out more and experience some culture and not stay cooped up in your lab doing....what do you do actually,” she abruptly changed topics again. Maybe she would have to be a bit more narrow with the conversational topics.

“Well, I try and unlock the secrets of the universe, discover new life forms, understand spatial anomalies, stop fungus from exploding and my pet Trico from eating all my Bacon. What do you mean experience culture? I’m English!” As he smirked, Duncan actually managed to sound slightly offended although the look on his face revealed hat he wasn’t quite that. “Oh wait, was that what you were doing just now? Culture?” He teased her, then reached across and laid his hand over hers for a moment. “It was very nice” he told her “Now what are your other strong suits? Anything I should know before you turn up on my doorstep tonight for that picnic?”

Lt Rhodes, CSO

“I love to eat but prefer beer to liquor unless it comes with an umbrella but what person doesn’t like those little umbrellas in your drink. Since we are not going anywhere with a blender then you don’t need anything but a few beers. I can’t sing but I do own a harmonica. I am not really into hiking and stuff but I love to be at those great hiking spots. You know those spots where the sun sets between mountain peaks or when it dips into water and slowly looks like it is being extinguished,” Lily said with a far off look. These were her favorite spots. Not because they oozed the romance as most men thought but more because they were truly spectacular. I can’t draw or paint but I am one hella good knot maker from my classes in macrame. I like all kinds of music but I tend to like anything with a strong bass the best.” Lily continued to rattle off the things that she liked while getting lost in Duncan’s eyes. They were an amazing blue: clear, bright, and mesmerizing. She wondered how many women had looked into them. She wondered how many women he looked at with those eyes not as a friend but as something more.

“Do you want to get out of here,” Lily asked Duncan standing up. “It looks like the wait staff can handle the rest of the party. I’ve been here three hours. I think I can take a break for a bit.”
