It had been a rather quiet week for Leroy Jacobs. His wife was off visiting her parents, and he had the entire apartment to himself. Work itself was also fairly calm, with only one major issue that wasn’t even under his jurisdiction. Now if only he could get this stupid console to get it’s readings right. For some reason, the data was completely matching corresponding metrics from almost an hour ago, which was extremely strange as there was usually at least some difference between even the closest points of data. He gave the console a small kick before wincing in pain, hopefully he could get a second opinion of this event, as hopefully it was just a collection error, and not something more serious that would require major repairs.

“As tempting as it is to put force upon any of the unresponsing equipment,” the blind officer found her way around the bend, towards the officer in all efforts of repairing the defective machine. Of course, she could not see him and his actions, but her sensory allowed her the ability to have a basic understanding of what he had been doing. “It will never be effective in repairing what has been broken,” She hummed, her voice baritone, compared to most women. Silently, she shook her head, approaching fully the man with the issue. “What seems to be going on, Mister Jacobs?” She could have probably figured it out, herself, but she wished to hear it from him, in case there was anything she might miss. Also, not to make him feel threatened or as if he were in trouble.

Leroy Jacobs rubbed the back of his head before responding, “It’s probably nothing, but for some reason I am getting the exact same data as one hour ago. The last time this happened was due to a bug causing a loop, but we put in measures to make sure that it didn’t happen again.”

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

“You’re probably right. Although, getting the exact same data seems a bit much of a coincidence to be ‘nothing.’” She rose her triecorder to get a ‘visual’ of what he was seeing. “It might be possible that the bug has changed slightly, and may rest outside of the measures you put in place to originally inhibit the bug from causing another loop.”

The officer nodded and brought up a new screen, “I’ll take a look at the source code, just to make sure.” After looking at it for a few seconds, frowned. Turning to the Lt., he spoke again, “Ma’am, did you have to restore a backup anytime lately? For some reason, the patch isn’t showing up in the system.”

Mr. Snuggles

“Restore a backup?” The Lieutenant glanced over at him with a raised eyebrow, “Not recently enough to impact the patch, Jacobs.” For a second, she thought. “The code may have been lost by human error, it happens sometimes. We could try recovering the source code, or perhaps the bug is causing the patch to be absent from the system. If it’s showing readings from an hour ago, then it is likely impacting data logs, which may also be why the patch isn’t showing up.”

“Are they any signs of system failure, anywhere else? Perhaps even readings of forces that could disturb our internal sensors?” Epello inquired, curiously.

Pulling up the source code, the officer frowned, “Ma’am, for some reason, the system is acting like the patch hadn’t even existed in the first place.” Minimizing the code, he activated a general diagnostics, the results already beginning to show, “And for some reason, I am getting conflicting results from different areas, some with similar results from earlier, and others with results that make so sense.” He turned to look at her, “Unless the gravity on deck 11 has been turned off without us knowing.”

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

“That seems an unlikelihood, especially with the strict perameters everything is held within. We would know if someone disabled gravitt. However, that isn’t an impossibility.” Epello considered the possibility for a moment. “I’ll go to deck eleven and check the systems to see if there is any indication of the gravity having been turned off in the last twenty-four hours, and you keep an eye on the systems here. Perhaps there will be a difference in readings.. If the gravity is even on upon Deck Eleven.” She nodded to him, “If they read differently, there might be a bug in the internal sensors and processing systems, which is causing readings to fluctuate and perhaps read differently in opposing areas.”
