The doors to the lab opened and Duncan made his way in, nodding to everyone as he did so. Notably, he wasn’t wearing his Starfleet badge which was likely why he hadn’t heard the call that the XO had put out to him. He was also carrying a large cup of coffee from Evies and was stifling a yawn as he came in. He had left the cargo bay earlier only moments after arriving and now, it was apparent that he seemed tired. Perhaps he had little sleep the previous night, as his hair also appeared slightly rushed and not in it’s normal, ‘in control’ state.

Jessica looked at the entrance to the lab and did a double take vigorous enough to cause whiplash. “Are you…sick…Lt,” she said carefully measuring out her words. The only times Jessica had seen Duncan this disheveled was the time he took her for a field trip as he called it to the surface of Gamma Tiltium to look for some critter in the swampy marshes. To be fair they hadn’t expected Galacticus Gatorus Majoris to be hiding among the reeds there. Either way hopping from tree limb to tree limb for two days as it followed like a yappy dog begging for a treat had made the pair quite a sight entering the base almost three days later. Even with that adventure under their belt, Duncan still looked more put together than he did now. The problem was the chief science officer was well within standards for Starfleet uniform and appearance. He was just not well within presentable limits for Lord Duncan Rhodes of England.

“What the heck happened to you,” Jessica asked eyeing Duncan. “Evie’s opening last night was the coffee bar, not the bar bar. That is next month,” she said trying to put the pieces together. “I thought you left like an hour into it. Evie said people stayed until almost 0400 hours but…did you,” she asked clearly confused.

Toveka also tilted her head in silent query. This was unlike her Department Head, though she would never have been as bold as Jessica in her comments of it.

Coming to the group Duncan sipped his coffee and looked at the tablet, blinking once or twice. “I never heard of ancient Romulans doing battle with Giant Chickens, Brine.” He said curiously, “Although that might explain why the Star Empire called its warships ‘Warbirds’. He looked at the two Starfleet Officers and the archaeologists, “Possible correlation? Something the ancient Romulans feared or worshiped enough to name Starships after them centuries later?”

Lt Duncan Rhodes, CSO

“No sir, they did not fight giant ‘chickens’.” Toveka frowned slightly though the twinkle in her eyes he saw let him know she had caught the jest and refused to rise to the bait.

The woman nodded, “It seemed that the imagery of the bird character has been pronounced at other sites as well. However, it seems as though this figure is much less common, only appearing in large quantities at the site from which these pieces came from.” She paused for a moment to bring up a picture on her padd. “Some pictures also from this site also depict more of this assumed ‘battle’.” Displayed on the padd was a more detailed image of what seemed to be a female shaped figure holding her arms above her head. More interestingly, above her was a familiar shape facing the bird.

OOC Note: After messing with formatting for the kagillionth time, I’m just going to describe what I was trying to do. I was trying to make an ascii Connie class, and that is what they see. Search up ‘star trek ascii’ and go to images to see what I was trying to do.

OCC I think it was amazing in what you were trying to do Cog. :) Way smarter than me but we knew that since the first day we met at the academy ~ (smiles Kate)

Jessica cocked her head to the side as she looked at the image. So far she had batted and struck out two for two with this art identification experiment but this time, they could not say she was wrong on her guess. Well, they could but she would need a lot of convincing that what she was looking at wasn’t a Constitution-class starship from the 2260’s. “Okay so call me crazy but is that,” she pointed a finger at the image above the woman. “Is that…the…Enterprise,” Jessica asked. The design of the ship had changed a lot in the almost one and half centuries from when Kirk and his crew set out in Starfleet to explore strange new worlds yet there was no mistaking the shape of one of the Federation’s most famous ships.

“And if it is why is an image of it on an ancient Romulan artifact that probably was created when we were just learning that the Earth was flat,” Jessica asked.

Toveka tried to imagine the timeline implications. “There have been several timeline anomalies over the centuries. Perhaps it is a depiction of one such ‘anomaly’ that seemed to make an impact on the Romulan Empire at the time. Though I am unaware of such a thing in our history.” It did intrigue her enough to wonder if there was somehow a sect of the government that had buried such information and the temple as well. It wouldn’t be the first time, though… and troubled her more than the comment about chickens from her mentor and supervisor.

More pictures were shown. “I’ve noticed that the common theme of the depictions of this female figure usually have something else with her, as here she is seeming to pelt the bird with suspiciously torpedo shaped objects, and here she is seen slamming what seems to be a rather broken cube into it.”

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

Toveka frowned slightly. “So you are thinking this is a depiction of what? Time travel and worship of a Federation ship? As well as some sort of Borg interaction? That makes no sense. There is nothing of that in our history.” She was at a loss. It made no sense to her. Why would the history of something like that have been hidden? The history as well as the shrine were a complete mystery. She glanced around. “Does anyone know where we can get the files of what occurs during time travel expeditions? Perhaps we can figure it out from the Federation side versus the Romulan side.” It was the only thing she could think of that would help.

“Let’s head to my office,” Jessica suggested. “Duncan you can help me sift through the files we have and you can see if anything rings a bell as related to Romulan culture. The powers that be aren’t too talkative with the gen pop about living in a real life ground hog day but maybe there is something that correlates. I do know there are several instances of the USS enterprise going back and forth in time but to the best of my knowledge I only remember it being about Earths history,” Jessica confided.
