Akane sat at her desk and sighed as she looked at the pile of boxes in the corner. Moving had never been her favourite thing and she loathed unpacking. On her last posting it had taken her 4 months to unpack all her stuff but she had decided that this was a new posting and a new leaf. Reluctantly she grabbed one of the boxes and dragged it across the floor towards her. She gently took out one of her most prized possessions, a family picture. She gently touched the image of her sister’s face and said a silent prayer that she would return. It had been 13 years since her sister ran away from home, Akane had only been 15 but that day still haunted her. No one from the family had seen or heard from her since but deep down Akane knew she was still out there somewhere and that one day they would be reunited. She popped the picture of them in pride of place on her desk.

Shuffling a few bits around she looked at the next box and sighed then shook her head and tapped her comm badge.

=^= Lt Sakai to all crew, please contact me at your earliest convenience to arrange a routine psychological examination…=^= she paused for a moment, knowing that for most officers this was not exactly their favourite thing to do so perhaps she needed to sweeten the deal a bit. =^=…the first 5 crew members to book a session get cake…=^= she added with a smile, that would certainly have worked on her so she was hoping it had the same effect on the outpost crew.

As she waited for the replies to flood in, Akane took a moment to start looking over personnel files. She briefly glanced back at the unopened boxes and grabbed a throw off her sofa and chucked it over the remaining luggage. “Out of sight, out of mind…” she chuckled to herself as she grabbed a cup of coffee from the replicator and went back to reading.

Lt Sakai (CNS)

Baldur was working when the message rung in Ops. He looked around the room at the slow buzz. He opened up a new tab on his console and started typing a message, not wanting to move away from his duty station to answer verbally. ‘I am ready whenever, I’m attatching my work schedule. I have room both after my current shift and before my afternoon shift tomorrow.’ He typed ‘Regards. Lieutenant Commander Bragason’ He signed off and sent the message.

SOO - Bragason

Duncan was in the Science department and at that particular moment, was locked in a life or death struggle with one of his departments more temperamental guests. Well to Duncan it was more of an annoyance, but to the temperamental and grouchy octopus that resided in one of the specimen tanks the fact that the tall Human wanted to pick him up and put him back in his tank was not only not the plan, but offensive when there was bacon left in the bowl that the Human’s annoyingly popular dog-cat-bird thing hadn’t eaten yet and the green goop the Human had in the other specimen tank was fun to play with. “Let go,” Duncan said to the little creature as he tried to pry the tentacles loose from the desk leg it was holding on to. “You can have the bacon, just let go and stop working out how to disarm the tank’s locks.”

It was then that the Chief Science Officer’s comm-badge came alive with the request for him to book in with a routine psychological assessment. Letting go of the small creature Duncan stood up and sighed, tapping his own badge in reply.

=/\= Lieutenant this is Duncan Rhodes. Bribing the crew with offers of cake is highly unprofessional and just plain sneaky. What kind of cake are you offering, and do you have coffee? =/\= His face and voice were completely straight and that matched his usual stance and bearing, his English accent making it sound all at once formal and completely normal yet his eyes held a humor that wouldn’t be seen unless someone knew him well enough to look into them.

Taking a piece of bacon from the plate, he dangled it in front of the Octopus who immediately let go of the desk leg and reached for it, meaning Duncan was able to scoop the creature up and return it to the tank as it happily munched the bacon piece and smugly nuzzled into the Human as the dog-cat-bird thing raised it’s head from the bed in the corner and watched it’s Human put the many-armed thing back in it’s tank.
