Despite the fact that the sensors in engineering were reading a flux in gravity in this area, there were no signs of any anomalies. The shops were open, the midday crowds were bustling as usual. A little girl ran through the crowd, glancing worriedly around as if she was trying to locate someone. Pausing in front of a certain cafe, her eyes lit up in recognition, although she looked like she was hesitant to enter.

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

Epello meadered the corridors of the deck, continuously scanning the area for any signs of what might have given off the peculiar readings. Furrowing her eyebrows, she stopped, turning her head to seemingly glance about. Carrying on her way, she nearly ran into the little girl, sensing her before her clumsiness gave her the chance to. “Oh! My bad,” She smiled down at her.

Lt. Epello
COO

“It’s okay miss. Grandma always tells me that I should be more careful of where I run off to.” The little girl looked up at Epello with wide eyes, “Wait… are you a Starfleet officer?”

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

“And right she is about that,” Epello nodded, offering what she could of a small smile. “Yes, I am. One of the operations officers, if you’ve heard of us.”

Lt. Epello
COO

“My mom says that you guys are veeeeerry important.” The girl drew out her the word in an attempt to make it bsound more important, and pouted when she finished. “Mom is also a very important person too, but she didn’t have time to play with me today because of that. Luckily I can always visit grandma!”

Me Snuggles (GM)

“We are just as significant as every civillian on this ship, every civillian just like you.” She smiled. “Say, what is your name?” Epello inquired, allowing her attention to briefly drift in search of whether or not there was anyone around that might be this girl’s grandmother. “Is she around? Looking for you, perhaps?”

Lt. Epello
COO

The little girl nodded and pointed at the cafe, “Grandma Evie is probably working now, so I am on my way to say hello.” Her face turned a little downcast, “I let her know that I was coming, but I got a little lost on my way. For some reason a lot of the shops have different signs today? Is there some sort of event happening?”

Mr Snuggles (GM)

“Different signs? What do you mean?” She asked, furrowing her eyebrows in a bit of confusion as to what the girl meant. “Could you show me one of these signs?”

Lt. Epello
COO

The girl pointed at the sign of the store next to the cafe, “Well, that sign is supposed to say Mr. Mugo’s masterpieces. Mom says that the Grandma almost got arrested trying to keep Mr. Mugo from pestering her customers into getting pictures of themselves.”

Mr Snuggles (GM)

Epello, wondering what the girl meant by ‘different,’ turned her attention to see what the sign said. “What company does your grandmother own?”

Lt. Epello
COO

OOC: With Trinity gone someone should jump in here.

Adam

Before the girl could reply, a bright light shone through the commercial area. Lt. Epello was gone, and in her place was what looked to be a young blond woman in strange medieval looking armour that had strange glowing lines running over certain parts. While she looked human, she had this otherworldly feel about her, and the soft green light that shone from her pupils indicated that she did not share the same base DNA as many of the people on the deck. Looking down at the girl in front of her, she spoke in an almost emotionless tone, “Where am I little one?”

The girl took a small step back. “Mommy says that I am not supposed to talk to strangers, especially if they appear in bright bursts of light.”

The woman nodded. “Wise words, however, I am a stranger to these parts, and do not wish to have to take the information by force.” She glanced towards the crowd of onlookers gathering nearby. “As that would could do more harm than good, and I do not wish to hurt innocents if I do not have to.”

Meanwhile, inside of the coffee shop they were standing outside of, one of the patrons shouted into the kitchen, “Hey Evie, there’s a little party going on outside your shop!”

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

“If it is that Dublin Donuts guy trying to put a cart in front of my shop I swear I am going to sick Aedan Teller on him,” Evie said throwing the hand towel over her shoulder. As she walked out of the shop she stopped looking at the commotion. “Well this is new,” she said cocking her head to the side. Sighing she walked towards the little girl and the woman who had to be doing some live form of role play on the outpost. OMAP’s entertainment division here was in full swing. This had to be something Aedan was either test launching or promoting. Either way the little girl appeared to be a bit timid.

“Can I help you,” Evie said to the woman moving next to the little girl.

Evie McGarrett

Bump

The little girl looked up at Evie with widening eyes before she shot like a tiny missile into her waist, “Grandma! You’re here!”

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

“Well Ciara has been gone a while but not that long,” she said in a confused tone but patted the child’s back reassuringly. Whatever was happening Evie knew this child at least needed someone to help her get where she needed to be. “It is good to meet you too. It has been a while. Why don’t you come with me and we can find your mommy huh,” Evie said happily breaking the hug but taking the little girl’s hand in hers. “We can have some cake or cookies and milk while we wait.”

The little girl nodded vigourously, hand clenching Evie’s tightly.

“Okay Lancelot,” Evie said looking at the knight in shining armor that was still watching the interaction. “Go on and hock whatever advertisement you were paid for just don’t do it here. And before you start to grumble, Aedan is my nephew and I have zero issues breaking down his boardroom door and making him boot you from the promenade. Would you like anything before you go? Coffee, tea,” she asked politely.

Evie “Yes I am a grandma and I knew one of my kids would pull through even if they won’t admit the had one” McGarrett

The woman slightly tilted her head in a confused manner. “While your offer of what I can only assume to be refreshments is appreciated, I must decline. I do ask however if you are the one who speaks for those located here?”

Mr Snuggles (GM)

“Yes, my kingdom stretches as far as the eye can see. Tell me, good knight, what bringeth thou to my lands, Aedan I am going to kill you with this stunt” she added silently to her self. This had to be a stunt by her nephew to drum up business for whatever venture he was planning. Normally she would try to support his but today she just had too much to do.

Evie.

The woman’s armour shifted around a bit before she spoke again, “You have designated yourself as the primary diplomatic liaison for these people. Therefore, according to the codex, I must inform you that any act of aggression towards me shall be met with an equal or greater force.” The armour on the top of her wrist shifted and a green blade sprang to life out of it. “Is this understandable?”

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

“Oh my heavens,” Evie grumbled rolling her eyes. The tone of her voice indicated she had far more saucier words but the small child next to her had prevented them.

“Enough with the shenanigans,” Evie pulled the towel from her shoulder. The little girl next to her looked terrified. Evie would show the little girl this was all a stunt first and then deal with the knuckleheaded Knight before her.

“Put that thing down before you kill someone,” she snapped Waving the towel at the blade.

Evie mcgarrett

bump

The towel impacted the blade… before being cleanly sliced through with no resistance. Despite this the woman just raised an eyebrow. “It seems counterintuitive to ask one to stand down while attempting what seems to be an assault yourself. Is this some sort of strange greeting? Perhaps a show of submission?”

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

OOC: Hope I’m ok to join in here?

IC: After her run in with the Captain, Akane decided that a stiff drink was in order so made her way to what looked like a bar. As she approached she sensed a tension in the air as she stumbled across a curious scene. Having already offended her CO, she didn’t want to step in where she wasn’t wanted but did notice there was a small child present as well. She casually strolled towards the group, making sure to keep a wide berth. As she was behind the knight she caught Evie’s eye and raised an eyebrow, silently mouthing ‘do you need help?’

Lt Sakai (CNS)

OCC: Sure :) ~ Kate

IC “I’m British love. We are nothing but polite,” Evie said to the counselor with a smile. Turning back to the night her tone changed, however. “Look you spicy little mongoose. I don’t know what you think is going on here but you will stop this nonsense now,” she said sharply. “Now hand over that overly sharp bread slicer before you get hurt and take off that helmet. Aedan is going here of this and when he does I am gonna throw you and him in the bloody garret.”

As she waited for the night to comply she turned to the CNS. “Are you new here love? If so welcome to the Outpost. Would you like a nice cup of coffee?”

Evie McGarrett

Akane wasn’t entirely sure how to take the situation but she was very quickly learning that this might not be a standard posting. She nodded at Evie, keeping a close eye on the knight. “Yes, just arrived yesterday and a cup of coffee would be lovely, perhaps after we’ve dealt with our friend here though?” she suggested, turning back to the knight.

The woman could only stare at Evie with what the counsellor could detect at a mostly calm look with a hint of disbelief. Pressing a button on her arm, the blade retracted and her helmet folded back, revealing the rest of her head (as before the only visible parts were her face and some hair). Her blond strands of hair were mostly done up in a bun behind her head, with two locks framing her face. The shine in her eyes was still pronounced, and she stood with the air of a seasoned member of an armed force. Turning to Akane, she could only ask, “I assume not all of you respond this way to potential first contact situations?”

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

Akane shrugged her shoulders. “To be honest, I’m new here so I can’t speak for the rest of the crew however, in my experience, first contact tends to go a little smoother without weapons being pointed?” she offered. “Just in case you were looking for pointers…” Akane spoke calmly and softly, knowing that she was walking in to a bit of an unknown situation.

Lt Sakai (CNS)

“Oh for the love of all that is holy. I am going to kill Aedan.” Turning to face the counselor Evie shook her head obviously annoyed. “This is not a first contact situation. This is a stunt by my nephew Aedan Teller. He is the CEO of OMAP and just loves the theatrical. You’ll see. That boy throws parties because the winds blow and all of them are over the top. He is opening that bar/casino over there,” Evie pointed to a building that was fully established but obviously receiving a facelift. “That man has more money that brains and this is evident byyyyyyyyyy,” she extended a palm to the knight before her. “This is not first contact. This is a promotional stunt. Now you must be hot love,” she said to the woman in the suit of armor. “How about the four of us,” Evie hugged the little girl to her side as she spoke, “pop on into the cafe and get some lunch and cookies. Don’t worry about your boss. I will take care of him.”

Not waiting for anyone to speak Evie reached for her personal communicator. =/\=Aedan what in the bloody hell are you doing to my promenade. You and your little knight and shining armor stunt has been quite enough. Now stop all these shenanigans and put up a holo like everyone else about your darn casino. You have scared a little girl, caused the new counselor to think we are all bloody mad and made me burn my cookies dealing with all your nonsense. Now knock it off and actually do some work today besides sitting behind your desk and playing F-box. =/\= Evie clicked off the comm and sighed.

“Okay, who wants lunch,” she said with a smile putting her hands on her hips.

Evie McGarrett

Akane chuckled and nodded, a little embarrassed that she had read the situation wrong. “Lunch sounds like a good idea to me…” she said as she breathed a sigh of relief. “What kind of cookies did you bake?” she asked as she peered into the brewery.

Lt Sakai (CNS)

The woman could only stare forward in shock for a few seconds before speaking, “I suppose some sustenance would not be harmful to my current status.”

Meanwhile the little girl cheered, “YAY COOKIES!”

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

Evie led the group into the resutrant not sure what to do with them after she fed them. It would be good to get to know the CNS at least. She would need to get a picture of the woman on the wall at her shop. All the Starfleet crew were there along with her regular customers. Then there was still the issue of the little girl and finding out who she belonged to.

After ten minutes of getting food together, Evie exited the kitchen and walked over to the table setting a tray down with a variety of dishes. Hopefully there was something for everyone in the spread she brought.

“So can you tell me where your mommy is,” Evie asked the little girl as she set a plate full of hot cookies in front of her along with a glass of milk.

Evie McGarrett

Akane was a little taken aback at Evie’s question, she had assumed that the child was hers. She mentally scolded herself for not being more familiar with the crew of the outpost but then turned her attention back to the young girl and gave her a warm smile as she pickeda few interesting looking items off the tray. She took a quick glance out into the corridor to see if there was a worried looking mother anywhere. Not seeing anyone she took out a padd ready to make a note of anything pertinent.

Lt Sakai (CNS)

“So Sakai,” Evie said as she waited for the little girl to reply. “What brought you to our little neck of the woods?” Evie knew that there was a new counselor on the Outpost. That meant she would need to update her wall. “Oh, and before you answer, I need a picture of you for the wall. You can give me any type you like,” she gestured at the long wall covered in pictures of various sizes. On it, if Sakai looked close enough she would see the snapshots of a multitude of people, Starfleet and civilian alike, doing everything from formal poses to action poses. Duncan and some dark-haired girl were dressed in shorts surrounded by a bunch of kids at what appeared to be the lip of a volcano. Aedan and Jessica Teller were in a black and white photo of them on their wedding day. Evie was in one with a small baby who had the brightest blue eyes and a shirt the read BEST AUNT EVER. The one, however, she could not miss was an almost poster-sized image of Mathias McGarrett on his graduation day from the Academy. A picture that was almost the same size yet from a slightly different angle could appear an inch or two larger was a woman who had to be related to both Evie and Mathias. Maybe she was a daughter or niece but the resemblance was undeniable.

Evie McGarrett

Akane smiled as she peered at the vast array of pictures on the wall, savouring the delicious treats Evie had put out for them. “What a lovely idea, I’ll drop one in later.” She grinned. “To be honest, I just fancied a change of pace really, I was involved with someone at my last posting and when it ended it just got a bit awkward so I thought I’d try something a bit different for a while. I’ve only ever served on starships so I was keen to see what life was like on an outpost. How about yourself, what brought you here?” She asked curiously.

Lt Sakai (CNS)

“I want to be a grandmother and my kids needed a push. That’s my son,” Evie beamed looking over at Mathia’s picture. “He is the Captian of this space station and a darn good at this job. He is smart and funny and very intelligent.” As Evie talked she pulled a menu from a pile on a nearby table. Flipping to a page in the middle, Evie pointed out the section marked Owner’s History. The first sentence or two held the expected stuff about coming from Ravi IV and the names of the owners. The rest, however, read almost like a page from E-Amicability. It started with all the wonderful things Mathias had won or participated in since late elementary school through high school with a footnote that he was so smart, Mathias was allowed to start Kindergarten at four years old instead of five. The subsequent paragraphs detailed his life in Starfleet from the academy to each ship until he ended up here. The entire piece was a glowing portrayal of his life which ended with the final sentence of “and we are waiting for him to find the true love of his life.”

“So now that you know my story,” Evie said in a friendly tone, “are you married Lt. Sakai,” she asked pouring the woman more of her beverage.

Evie McGarrett, So darn proud of her son.
