Main Sim - Outside the Been There Brewed That Brewery, Deck 11

<SNIP>

The towel impacted the blade… before being cleanly sliced through with no resistance. Despite this the woman just raised an eyebrow. “It seems counterintuitive to ask one to stand down while attempting what seems to be an assault yourself. Is this some sort of strange greeting? Perhaps a show of submission?”

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

OOC: Hope I’m ok to join in here?

IC: After her run in with the Captain, Akane decided that a stiff drink was in order so made her way to what looked like a bar. As she approached she sensed a tension in the air as she stumbled across a curious scene. Having already offended her CO, she didn’t want to step in where she wasn’t wanted but did notice there was a small child present as well. She casually strolled towards the group, making sure to keep a wide berth. As she was behind the knight she caught Evie’s eye and raised an eyebrow, silently mouthing ‘do you need help?’

Lt Sakai (CNS)

OCC: Sure :) ~ Kate

IC “I’m British love. We are nothing but polite,” Evie said to the counselor with a smile. Turning back to the night her tone changed, however. “Look you spicy little mongoose. I don’t know what you think is going on here but you will stop this nonsense now,” she said sharply. “Now hand over that overly sharp bread slicer before you get hurt and take off that helmet. Aedan is going here of this and when he does I am gonna throw you and him in the bloody garret.”

As she waited for the night to comply she turned to the CNS. “Are you new here love? If so welcome to the Outpost. Would you like a nice cup of coffee?”

Evie McGarrett

Akane wasn’t entirely sure how to take the situation but she was very quickly learning that this might not be a standard posting. She nodded at Evie, keeping a close eye on the knight. “Yes, just arrived yesterday and a cup of coffee would be lovely, perhaps after we’ve dealt with our friend here though?” she suggested, turning back to the knight.

The woman could only stare at Evie with what the counsellor could detect at a mostly calm look with a hint of disbelief. Pressing a button on her arm, the blade retracted and her helmet folded back, revealing the rest of her head (as before the only visible parts were her face and some hair). Her blond strands of hair were mostly done up in a bun behind her head, with two locks framing her face. The shine in her eyes was still pronounced, and she stood with the air of a seasoned member of an armed force. Turning to Akane, she could only ask, “I assume not all of you respond this way to potential first contact situations?”

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

Akane shrugged her shoulders. “To be honest, I’m new here so I can’t speak for the rest of the crew however, in my experience, first contact tends to go a little smoother without weapons being pointed?” she offered. “Just in case you were looking for pointers…” Akane spoke calmly and softly, knowing that she was walking in to a bit of an unknown situation.

Lt Sakai (CNS)

“Oh for the love of all that is holy. I am going to kill Aedan.” Turning to face the counselor Evie shook her head obviously annoyed. “This is not a first contact situation. This is a stunt by my nephew Aedan Teller. He is the CEO of OMAP and just loves the theatrical. You’ll see. That boy throws parties because the winds blow and all of them are over the top. He is opening that bar/casino over there,” Evie pointed to a building that was fully established but obviously receiving a facelift. “That man has more money that brains and this is evident byyyyyyyyyy,” she extended a palm to the knight before her. “This is not first contact. This is a promotional stunt. Now you must be hot love,” she said to the woman in the suit of armor. “How about the four of us,” Evie hugged the little girl to her side as she spoke, “pop on into the cafe and get some lunch and cookies. Don’t worry about your boss. I will take care of him.”

Not waiting for anyone to speak Evie reached for her personal communicator. =/\=Aedan what in the bloody hell are you doing to my promenade. You and your little knight and shining armor stunt has been quite enough. Now stop all these shenanigans and put up a holo like everyone else about your darn casino. You have scared a little girl, caused the new counselor to think we are all bloody mad and made me burn my cookies dealing with all your nonsense. Now knock it off and actually do some work today besides sitting behind your desk and playing F-box. =/\= Evie clicked off the comm and sighed.

“Okay, who wants lunch,” she said with a smile putting her hands on her hips.

Evie McGarrett

Akane chuckled and nodded, a little embarrassed that she had read the situation wrong. “Lunch sounds like a good idea to me…” she said as she breathed a sigh of relief. “What kind of cookies did you bake?” she asked as she peered into the brewery.

Lt Sakai (CNS)

The woman could only stare forward in shock for a few seconds before speaking, “I suppose some sustenance would not be harmful to my current status.”

Meanwhile the little girl cheered, “YAY COOKIES!”

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

Evie led the group into the resutrant not sure what to do with them after she fed them. It would be good to get to know the CNS at least. She would need to get a picture of the woman on the wall at her shop. All the Starfleet crew were there along with her regular customers. Then there was still the issue of the little girl and finding out who she belonged to.

After ten minutes of getting food together, Evie exited the kitchen and walked over to the table setting a tray down with a variety of dishes. Hopefully there was something for everyone in the spread she brought.

“So can you tell me where your mommy is,” Evie asked the little girl as she set a plate full of hot cookies in front of her along with a glass of milk.

Evie McGarrett

Akane was a little taken aback at Evie’s question, she had assumed that the child was hers. She mentally scolded herself for not being more familiar with the crew of the outpost but then turned her attention back to the young girl and gave her a warm smile as she pickeda few interesting looking items off the tray. She took a quick glance out into the corridor to see if there was a worried looking mother anywhere. Not seeing anyone she took out a padd ready to make a note of anything pertinent.

Lt Sakai (CNS)

“So Sakai,” Evie said as she waited for the little girl to reply. “What brought you to our little neck of the woods?” Evie knew that there was a new counselor on the Outpost. That meant she would need to update her wall. “Oh, and before you answer, I need a picture of you for the wall. You can give me any type you like,” she gestured at the long wall covered in pictures of various sizes. On it, if Sakai looked close enough she would see the snapshots of a multitude of people, Starfleet and civilian alike, doing everything from formal poses to action poses. Duncan and some dark-haired girl were dressed in shorts surrounded by a bunch of kids at what appeared to be the lip of a volcano. Aedan and Jessica Teller were in a black and white photo of them on their wedding day. Evie was in one with a small baby who had the brightest blue eyes and a shirt the read BEST AUNT EVER. The one, however, she could not miss was an almost poster-sized image of Mathias McGarrett on his graduation day from the Academy. A picture that was almost the same size yet from a slightly different angle could appear an inch or two larger was a woman who had to be related to both Evie and Mathias. Maybe she was a daughter or niece but the resemblance was undeniable.

Evie McGarrett

Akane smiled as she peered at the vast array of pictures on the wall, savouring the delicious treats Evie had put out for them. “What a lovely idea, I’ll drop one in later.” She grinned. “To be honest, I just fancied a change of pace really, I was involved with someone at my last posting and when it ended it just got a bit awkward so I thought I’d try something a bit different for a while. I’ve only ever served on starships so I was keen to see what life was like on an outpost. How about yourself, what brought you here?” She asked curiously.

Lt Sakai (CNS)

“I want to be a grandmother and my kids needed a push. That’s my son,” Evie beamed looking over at Mathia’s picture. “He is the Captian of this space station and a darn good at this job. He is smart and funny and very intelligent.” As Evie talked she pulled a menu from a pile on a nearby table. Flipping to a page in the middle, Evie pointed out the section marked Owner’s History. The first sentence or two held the expected stuff about coming from Ravi IV and the names of the owners. The rest, however, read almost like a page from E-Amicability. It started with all the wonderful things Mathias had won or participated in since late elementary school through high school with a footnote that he was so smart, Mathias was allowed to start Kindergarten at four years old instead of five. The subsequent paragraphs detailed his life in Starfleet from the academy to each ship until he ended up here. The entire piece was a glowing portrayal of his life which ended with the final sentence of “and we are waiting for him to find the true love of his life.”

“So now that you know my story,” Evie said in a friendly tone, “are you married Lt. Sakai,” she asked pouring the woman more of her beverage.

Evie McGarrett, So darn proud of her son.

Akane smiled as she took a sip of the freshly replenished drink. “No ma’am, not married, never have been. I came close once but it just wasn’t meant to be,” she said with a hint of wistfulness. As she looked back at the picture of Mathias on the wall she bit her lip. “I’m afraid I don’t think I made a very good impression on your son though…” she added, recalling her first interaction with him being a scolding message from him for harassing his staff and her somewhat defensive reply. ‘Perhaps I should try and remedy that…’ she thought to herself.

Lt Sakai (CNS)

Nibbling on the cookie she had been given, the little girl spoke up, “Silly grandma, you know exactly who mommy is.” She frowned. “Unless what Uncle Matt said was true.” She looked up at Evie with wide eyes. “Are you going senile Grandma? I told Uncle Matt that you were still really really young, but he just laughed and messed up my hair.”

Meanwhile, the blond woman was examining a cookie before taking a tentative bite. As soon as her lips closed, her eyes slightly lit up, and she discretely started to eat the rest.

Nikki rounded the corner. On a previous walkabout he had spied out a great number of shops. Two levels of them. Impressive but hardly spectacular. He had made a point of introducing himself and what he was doing and managed to come away with several shopping lists of ‘to do’ fixes by the shopkeepers. It was what he did. Well yes the fixing, but much more the schmoozing. On any of his family’s ships that was the deal. Know the people. What made them tick. Then you can anticipate them. And control them. Information was everything. He imagined the Brewery was a hub, or one of them.

Leaning against a bulkhead he looked a t the exchanges going on. His eyes scanned the photos over the bar, then at a dame at the end of the bar. Another brushed past him and he followed her with his eyes and her slightly unsteady gait. She gave his hair a long glance; he grinned in return. His cigar was back and it, more than anything tended to gauge his emotions. Tugging at the collar of the uniform he knew he had to get the thing adjusted. It was just too tight. When he looked again he noticed a small group of dames. At first glance it looked like a family unit. Older woman, Akane and a couple others including a little urchin. He took in Akane again at a distance. A tidy little package. Well, no sense just lookin at the eye candy. He was curious and wanted to know what was happening. He considered Akane the most dangerous person on this post; she held the keys to everyone. He should have gone into counseling.

“A party and nobody invited old Nikki?” He said easily. He felt more at home here than anywhere. Now if the brewery made whiskey that would be all the better.

OOC The skipper suggested I get into the sim in this thread so someone fill me in IC to get me up to speed please :) … Gene

OOC: I’m going to assume this is before our little counseling session btw :)
OOC: lol can get complicated <G>

Akane jumped as Nikki approached but smiled sweetly when she recognised a familiar face. “We meet again Lt,” she said with a grin. “Please do come and join us,” she added as she offered up a seat. She turned to Evie, “Evie, this is Lt Brako, our new COO, Lt Brako, this is Evie, the patron of this fine establishment,” she announced as they took a seat. She studied the knight again and shook her head, “this is apparently a publicity stunt?” she said, clearly still not sure what was going on herself. She passed another cookie to the little girl and offered her knee for the little one to sit on.

“Pleased to meet you Evie,” Nikki said. It was always a good thing to get on the good side of the owner of a bar. Though Akane had given a very upper scale description of Evie and the bar Nikki had been in enough of them - including on his own ships - to know that underneath it all be it glitter or sawdust a bar was a bar. While introductions were in order and all that done, everyone seemed confused. Why was a child in a bar to begin with?

Nikki edged in with a confident gait. A brewery. That was a second home te him. A young girl. He’d done that. Well, a son actually, but all the same. “Pleased te meet ye,” Nikki said, breathing in the air of the place. A smell of hops and spirits and nuts and the sounds of people in that dull background unintelligible noise. “Nikki,” he said, favoring that rather than any formal rank title. Seeing the little girl, Nikki asked, “Yours?”

His eyes then trailed from the young girl to where Akane was looking. He’d not noticed the ‘knight’. She had been out of his line of sight when he first came in. Now he looked at her more closely. “Whose the dame in the steel suit?” he asked. He liked the way she looked dressed like that. The sword was a little over the top but it seemed to suit her. “Hey, sweetheart, come over. Ol Nikki will buy you an ale,” he called to the woman knight.

“This little one seems to think that Evie is her grandmother…” she said, even more perplexed as she studied the child munching on a cookie before she turned back to Evie. “We should probably try and find her mother?” she suggested.

Lt Sakai (CNS)

Ahhhh. Not hers then. Didn’t quite have the eyes or the complexion, but one never knew entirely. He looked back to the girl and reached out and give the girl a little tickle at the chin. “What’s yer name little one? Ye’ve sure got a pretty smile.”
- Nikki, COO

OOC: Bump

Akane watched the knight with curiosity to see how she would react to Nikki. She still wasn’t convinced that there wasn’t something else going on here, it just didn’t feel right. Watching Nikki with the little girl, she turned back to Evie. “When did this little one appear Evie?” she asked, wondering why no one was looking for the child.

Lt Sakai (CNS)

Nikki looked at the clothes on the girl. Glancing to the dame in steel he got the idea that she was definitely out of place and her own actions were not one that suggested a publicity stunt as some were suggesting. She didn’t look employed and there were no interpretive museums on board that he knew of from his glance at the directory. She seemed very ‘out of time’, but what about the girl? Just lost and separated from her mother? But thinking that this Evie dame was her grandmother but Evie not sayin so. That suggested a not yet, while the dame in steel was a had been. Was there some kind of time thing happening here? Nikki had studied it. Apart from going back and investing heavily in things for the future he had little use for the idea of time travel.
- Nikki, COO

OOC: Bump .. Gene

Akane hoisted the young girl up on to her lap and handed her a glass of milk with a brightly coloured straw poking out of it. She needed to get to the bottom of what was going on here so decided to try a different tactic. “Say, I was wondering if you could help me? My friend Nikki and I are new here and we’re trying to get to know people, can you remind me what your mummy’s name is as we’d love to meet her?” she asked, keeping her tone light and easy.
