“It was a plasma conduit that blew actually. The power systems are ancient and they were working on them for the initial phase of the construction. It caused quite a mess on a couple of the lower decks. As for the defensive systems, well, I’m sure you won’t find a hundred year old station that’s had minimal updating in better shape. Fortunately we haven’t had to use them that often. We wouldn’t have held up in the incident with the Romulans and the mutant killer tribbles if it wasn’t for the Lancer.” The possibility crossed Mathias’s mind from time to time that perhaps they didn’t get every tribble off the outpost. Fortunately he had only seen them in nightmares since.

Nikki was ticking the items off in his head. He was certain that the ‘fleet decided to send him into hell. Apparently they were a vindictive bunch with not bein happy that he had been cleared of his charges. So they sent him here. “Swell,” he replied behind his coffee mug. Well he would see to that. “How long has the Fleet had this station?” Having a warship around the area was nice but Nikki would sleep better knowing that they could keep a determined mosquito at bay. Right now he wasn’t confident that they could.

“Since Starfleet built it as a defense base against the Romulans and Klingons. I don’t know exactly how many years ago that was…a lot.” It was interesting for Mathias to describe his outpost to the newer officers. The condition of the station was something he had gotten used to and no longer minded. An outside perspective always helped shed fresh light on the familar.

Baldur shuddered, he had an innate dislike for tribbles due to his own bad experience with the creatures, he could hardly imagine what mutant killer tribbles looked like and the thought did not bring joy. “That’s the great thing about stations, doesn’t take much to beef up armaments, also helps to have a Pendragon flying around for support” Baldur allowed him a grim smile “If nothing else it gives me something to do.”

“Who engineered the killer tribbles?” he asked. That intrigued him. “If ye can domesticate a targ or a sehlat then surely a killer tribble could be used fer defense too.” He knew a number of people he’d not mind feeding to them.

“I have no idea. I still have trouble believing one of those little devils bit me. I tell you, you’re right, they’re great for defense.” A sly smile crept over the captain’s face as he recalled how things had played out. “At least I assume they are because we never heard from the Romulans after we beamed them onto their ship.”

Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO

Nikki wondered if there was such a thing a tribble spray to assign to the troops. He chuckled. Beamed on to a Rommie ship. Well, they could take turns biting each other then. Taking a thoughtful sip of his coffee he knew that this was going to take a while to get this put into shape. “Boss, do ye have any priorities ye’d like te see on the fix of this place? Or just take it deck by deck and hope for the best?” They definitely wanted him out of the way. But who was behind this, and why? If someone wanted to put a hit on him this was the place to do it.

Baldur laughed at the tribble comment but not as heartily as he could, in truth he had quite a soft spot for Romulans, not enough to not find it amusing but still enough to not find it hilarious. He leaned back in his seat and started thinking about his situation, where he was and what he would do here. If Brako could get the station in working order then all Baldur had to do was prove it’s strategic and tactical worth, perhaps not an easy task with the current political climate but where’s the fun in easy.

“Well, Lieutenant, I don’t think you’ll find a shortage of tired systems on the Outpost and limping along power couplings. Your staff has been doing a great job holding everything together so I’m not aware of any particular urgent need. But I would start by making sure our vital operations like defense and life support are in top notch shape before fixing the weird gliches on the holodecks and the unique replicators they have in here.” Mathias looked around at the crew sitting at the other tables, all of whom seemed content with their meals. “No one seems to mind the quality of the food they produce for some reason anyhow.”

Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO

“I would, of course, prefer that our defensive systems are prepared but a functioning sonic shower isn’t the worst thing in the world,” He said with a smile. Baldur looked at the other crew “Perhaps there are more here that follow my school fo thought than I previously believed” he said with amusement in his tone “There are worse things than sharing a meal with new friends and comrades”
