Part of her wanted to let darkness claim her. Yet the other half of her wanted to help. She wanted to figure out why she was sick, how it had occurred, and how to help herself. It was hard for her to lay on the bed, the hypospray hissing a moment into her neck with the antidote Paige had given her, and surrender to the buzz of activity around her and the Admiral. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Her eyes drifted shut as she heard T’Pen come into the room and begin speaking. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Lt JG Toveka Brine : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Science : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : OOC: Yes, she is. ~Adam : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : T’Pen would come barreling into sickbay as if she was on a mission. She’d then point her head towards the Lt Cmdr. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Ma’am, a moment?” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Ensign T’Pen, On A Mission : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Paige nodded and stepped away “What’s going on Ensign?” She asked her officer noting the determined look on the other woman’s face. The Ensign had her full attention at the moment. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : CMO : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “I wanted to do a prognosis on both poisoning victims before I go to the galley to do some investigation. I have something of a hunch the poison was inserted when the soup was being prepared. I need to develop a timeline to gather evidence. Where are the victims?” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Ensign T’Pen, Doctor. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “Doctor Stone,” said Vak, as he walked up to the two doctors. “Sorry to interrupt. I noticed Lieutenant Brine’s alkaloid levels just began to drop. It seems the treatment is working on her just as it had for Admiral Sabok.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Meanwhile Sabok seemed to be taking Paige’s advice. He was sleeping, or at the very least his eyes were closed. Toveka would be starting to feel ever so slightly better. And V’Lapor seemed content to observe everyone else’s activity. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Ensign Dabor Vak, Nurse : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “That’s incredibly odd. It seems like our poisoner missed their desired potency.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Vak shrugged. “Perhaps. But if we didn’t figure out the problem more quickly, I think it would have hit the desired potency right on the mark in the Admiral’s case at least.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : T’Pen would then take a break to collect her thoughts. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : “I’m having the galley staff rounded up and the galley quarantined. We’ll need to find out who did this. Since I assume everyone took the soup at the same time, methinks resistance to the poison might have an effect.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Toveka managed to murmur, though she wasn’t sure if anyone heard, “Didn’t… finish … mine… drinking…” It occurred to her that she had only had a couple bites of the soup. She had been busy talking with the bar tender about various drinks and had been indulging in a bit more alcohol than usual. Perhaps that had stalled or lessened the affects of the poison. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : T’Pen would then blast her voice over the tannoy system. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : =^= T’Pen to Security. Do you have the galley rounded up yet? I require a forensics team, a science officer, several securitors and, most importantly, the galley staff put in interview. Thank you. =^= : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Ensign T’Pen, Doctor. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : ^= Lieutenant O’Hoolihan here in the galley. Aye, lass, we have most of the galley staff. He was alternating between checking the vitals of each patient. They were steady, and the alkaloid levels for each of them continued to gradually drop. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : T’Pen then bolted out of sickbay. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Ensign T’Pen, On A Mission : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Toveka sighed. Whatever was tieing her in knots was slowly relaxing within her. The treatment must be working, she thought. As her breathing eased and the cramps began to give her respite, she slowly turned her head towards all the voices and began to open her eyes. It was good to hear others weren’t affected. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Lt JG Toveka Brine : : : : : : : : : : : : Science : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Mathias confidently strode into the Infirmary. After glancing over the patients he stepped towards Paige and addressed her. “Report, Doctor.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO : : : : : : : : : : : Ensign Dabor Vak, Nurse : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Paige looked at Mathias “Well, we have had a second victim, same poison. Both are responding to the antitoxin that has been given and both will survive. T’Pren thinks she might have something and that it was the soup or some other liquid that was poisoned. She is on her way to the galley with a security team.” Paige stated “My concern is that if this was introduced into any of the replicators, it could affect many more.” She said “Until we can clear them, I would suggest that any Vulcans use rations instead. Those we know have not been tainted.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : CMO : : : : : : : : : : : : “Well, if anyone will be able to stand how the rations taste, it should be Vulcans,” quiped Mathias. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Toveka looked at the pair discussing the poisoning. “Check replicator logs. See if new recipes… or ingredients… were introduced in the last 5 days. That’s how long since I had the soup from them.” She moved to try and sit up. It was as if she had been bedridden for days. Her body was aching but she knew there were things that had to be done. “I can help with it.” She said as she began to move. She could probably check the logs from here. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Lt JG Toveka Brine : : : : : : : : : Science : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Paige stepped over “Lt rest, let us take care of this. Once you’re stronger, then you can help.” Paige turned back to Mathias “What are your thoughts Captain. I don’t want any further illnesses.” She said “The other option is to have the rest of the Vulcan crew come to Sickbay and be treated with the antidote just to be on the safe side.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : CMO : : : : : : : : : : : : After thinking for a couple seconds, Mathias responded, “My bet is the only Vulcan who was targeted here was the high profile diplomat. Let’s hold off on administering the antidote to anyone else until we have reason to do so. However, I want us to be ready to administer it in the event there are more victims.” : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Listening to T’vecka, Paige did send one of the medics go over and began looking through the replicator logs looking for anything new or unusual. She didn’t know if they were going to find anything but they needed to prevent further problems with poisoning. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : CMO : : : : : : : : : : : : “No new ingredients, Doctor,” said Vak, who was looking through the replicator logs. “There have been some new recipes in that time. Norwegian lutefisk, I wonder what that is. Three recipes for ferret food. Oh, there’s the jumja tea recipe I put in there yesterday. It wasn’t quite right. I’danian spice pudding. Pejuta with lemon. Delvan fluff pastry. Hmm, none of this seems suspicious to me.” : : : : : : : : : : : : “As expected,” simply said Commander V’Lapor, breaking his silence. : : : : : : : : : : : : “If you have something to say, then say it, Commander,” said Mathias after turning towards him. : : : : : : : : : : : : “Federation replicators have safeguards to prevent against replicating poisonous items for consumption. The planet the flower is native to may have been destroyed, but we are near Romulan space. The most logical source for the poison would be from a natural source. That would be more difficult to be tracked, which one would think would be desirable to an assassin.” V’Lapor was speaking in the matter-of-fact manner that Vulcans always seemed to. : : : : : : : : : : : : Ensign Dabor Vak, Nurse : : : : : : Commander V’Lapor : : : : : : Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO : : : : : : : : : : Toveka had managed to sit up, but other than bracing herself with both arms, she wasn’t moving any further. As she listened, she had an idea. “If it was placed there at the gathering, then check the ship logs. If the recordings were on in the lounge for posterity sake, still, perhaps that culprit was caught on video in the background somewhere. I know the talks were important. Wouldn’t the after party have been as well?” She wasn’t sure how much the other races were interested in and it was a long shot to boot. : : : : : : : : : : Lt JG Toveka Brine : : : : : Scientist “Good idea, Lieutenant,” said Mathias with a nod. : : : : : : : : Ensign T’Pen’s voice would come loudly over the tannoy system. : : : : : : : : =^= Sickbay do you have any new developments I should know? I’m about to go into interview with the galley staff, I’d like an update =^= : : : : : : : : Ensign T’Pen’s Loud Voice : : : : : Paige touched her comm badge =^=Not yet. There is nothing in the replicator logs that looks suspicious so it had to be from a natural source.” She said and turned back to V’Lapor “If it is indeed in its natural form, we can scan for the flower aboard the ship.” She said and looked at Mathias and then at Toveka. Mathias gave Paige a nod. “Agreed, let’s scan for it throughout the Outpost.” : : =^= Are you absolutely sure ma’am? We should check for other possibilities. I’m not convinced that a natural source was somehow able to poison one specific instance that oh so happened to be destined for the esophagus of a Starfleet Admiral and several high level VIP’s. The poison used was a highly specific Romulan poison that’s several centuries old and could only have been synthesized by specialized biochemists with master-level knowledge. The notion that this somehow “appeared naturally” is profoundly illogical and I refuse to accept it. =^= “Nothing more dangerous than logic in the hands of the young. If the flower is not extinct it’s possible it was used,” said V’Lapor, though not in the comm. : : : : : Toveka was fighting off the shakes as the antidote kicked in. She was sitting without help and decided to try and stand up. As her feet touched the floor, she held on to the side of the bed in case her knees didn’t hold. “I can easily check the recordings from here, if there are any.” She said standing up a bit straighter. : : : : : : Lt JG Toveka Brine : : : Scientist : : : : Paige looked at the scientist “Stubborn....” She muttered and moved over to help steady her “If you’re going to insist on this come over and sit down at this console.” Paige said as one of the other nurses pulled out the chair for the Lt to sit down in. Turning her attention back to Mathias “Sir, I have to agree with V’Lapor it seems that we have an assassin in our midst and the only way to lure him out may be using the Ambassador as bait.” She said “As a last resort of course.” : : : : CMO : : OOC: Relay that info to T’Pen whoever’s playing Paige : : Ensign T’Pen Loud Voice and Rafael Asking The Person Who Plays Paige To Relay The Info To T’Pen “A last resort indeed. Admiral Sabok’s life has been in enough risk for today,” said Mathias, who did seem particularly enthused by the idea. There was video footage available of the lounge from the beginning of setup until the lounge clearly out. One of the angle of footage available included the table the buffet was set up on. Watching a rapid reply showed the soup being brought out, the admiral taking his soup, and the soup getting cleared away during clean up. Commander V’Lapor Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO

Paige continued to monitor the two patients that had been poisoned as she waited for information from the Galley about anything that might be in the replicators. She seriously doubted that it had been done that way, but they had to make sure. She glanced at the Ambassador and at his bio readings. She wasn’t sure exactly how she felt about thsi.

Both patients’ health continued to improve, inching closer to normal. The key moments from the video footage Toveka had called up still hadn’t been reviewed at regular speed.

Toveka accepted the help, though reluctantly. As they played the garage twice over, she shook her head. “No, wait. Slow it down. If everyone is not sick, then someone who took soup before the admiral is the one who dosed the bowl. I got mine after the admiral. I only had a bit because we were the last. There wasn’t much left. He had been too busy talking, I assume, and I had arrived late and been talking to the bar tender.”

She keyed the video back to the last two people to get soup before the admiral. Slowing down the viewing, she hoped she would catch some clue to how it happened. A dosing of his bowl before it was handed to him, something slipped into the soup, itself. There had to be something here. The scientist was running out of ideas.

No one, as it turned out, took soup before Admiral Sabok. He, along with Captain McGarrett and Commander V’Lapor were the first to go through the line. The crew must have concluded it was inappropriate to take food before the guest of honor did. Mathias had gone through the line first of the three, but didn’t take the soup or appear to get close to it. Sabok followed behind him. Last was V’Lapor, who didn’t have a plate or a bowl and wasn’t so much as looking at the soup when he walked by that part of the buffet.

No one, it seemed, came near the soup since it had been brought to the table by the galley staff. There was footage of that, which had not been reviewed closely yet.

Toveka shook her head as the recording finished its third pass. “I see nothing here. No one at the reception seems to have tampered with it.” She tapped on the keyboard and glanced at those around her. “There is additional footage from the kitchen. Do you wish me to vote that as well?” She wasn’t sure how the investigation was going, so she didn’t want to assume anything.

At the same time, her mind wondered if anyone would object or claim it was unnecessary. If that turned out to be the case, perhaps there was more than one suspect to consider.

Paige touched her comm badge =^=Ensign Brine, have we found anything yet?” She asked as she watched the patients in her sickbay and continued to monitor them.
