It was quiet in the quarters at 0130 in the morning. Chloe has woken up to go to the bathroom as was typical for someone pregnant. Once up she decided to grab a snack and a quick drink. Standing in front of the fridge, she looked a the list of baby names that continued to grow there. Olivia, Emma, Ava, Isabella, Charlotte, Mia, Amelia: All were contenders except for one with a black line through it.

Nate was the first to strike one Sophia from the list which Chloe thought was hysterical. For being the bane of the department, Sophie Mynah was stuck to his hip like mortar to a brick. Walking by their therapy room at times it sounded like Nate was talking to his own daughter instead of a patient. Chloe traced her finger down the list as she drank a glass of water before bed. Life was good and continued to get better with each passing day. It had only been a week since they had visited Stevenson and found out the sex of their child yet for Chloe it was like a weight had been lifted off her. The loud sound of the comm system going of snapped her out of her daydream making her run to the device. It was a rarity to have both kids in their own beds asleep. In the year following Maddie’s death, Chloe had replaced ate with their children in her bed. The transition of her husband back to his spot was not as easy as one thought it might be especially with Logan. It wasn’t until Nate had moved back home did she realize Logan was waking his sister up to journey to their parent’s bed in the middle of the night.

Activating the comm call, Chloe found the face of her sister in law Nicole, red-eyed and hysterical. Lowering the volume so that only she could hear, Chloe took a deep breath. There was little love lost between Kevin and Nathan. Kevin was the one who tended to throw the most barbs but Nathan wasn’t always innocent about not poking the bear. “Nicole, what’s wrong? Is it my parents,” Chloe instantly jumped to a conclusion. Her mom had recently begun the passive-aggressive guilt trip about being older and not able to see all her grandkids. The outpost was good for her and Nate. One day they would return to Earth but right now Chloe felt that without the pressures of family, she and Nate might be able to patch things up.

“Molly is gone,” she sobbed laying her head down on the desk.

“Wait what do you mean gone,” Chloe looked at the bedroom door where Nate was already in bed. Her gut told her to wake him up but he worked a double today and had the kids most of the night as she worked. He was pulling more of his weight than he should be.

“I didn’t want to call at this hour but Kevin says not to bother you and I don’t know what to do. We have looked everywhere? Did she call you by any chance,” she sobbed loudly forcing Chloe to drop the volume even more.

“No. Did you contact the authorities,” Chloe transferred the call to her PaDD and headed back to the kitchen area. Reaching up into the cabinet she pulled out a few pills from her bottle stuffed on the top shelf. She had bottles of them stuffed everywhere but the thought of her sixteen-year-old niece lost increased her anxiety level tenfold.

“Yes and they are looking but they told us she would be back in the morning. That was ten days ago Chloe,” Nicole said. Her voice was warbling some as she stood on the verge of panic.

“Ten days,” Chloe stood with a shocked expression on her face. She had spoken to her mom every day for the past month but no one thought to tell her that her niece had gone missing.

“No one would let me talk to you. They didn’t want you to worry but the officer just came by and told us that we should prepare that,” Nicole’s voice broke into a fit of tears and hiccuping coughs as she fought to not finish the sentence. Chloe’s stomach dropped as she filled in what Nicole could not say. Stumbling back, she hit the wall and slid down it not able to process all this information.

“Nicole I am coming home,” Chloe said finally finding her words. “I am going to get the kids and be on the next shuttle okay. Don’t worry. We will find her,” Chloe replied slowly standing. “Give me an hour to get some clothes into a bag and I will call you back okay.” Chloe was starting to feel a bit calmer as the drugs started to kick in. Making her way to the bedroom, she found she did not have to be quiet because Nate was already up and on the phone.

“Nate I am sorry to wake you up but I need you to come down to the cafe,” Evie’s voice was calm but firm.

“Evie… this better not be about that girl you saw Mathia ‘flirt’ with. I told you being nice to someone doesn’t equal flirting.” Nathan said as he pressed his thumb and index finger over his eyes as he tried to focus on what was being said.

“No and we can talk about that over coffee tomorrow when I come to see you at ten,” she waved him off. While she did officially book an appointment with Nathan at least once a week, Evie saw their sessions more of two friends having coffee than therapy. Nathan was just so busy she couldn’t get any time to talk to him. Maybe she would start doing the same thing with her nephew. Aedan was always working and while he stopped by every day before and after work to pick up coffee, she always wanted more time with him too.

“What’s wrong then, can’t throw out the drink riff-raff?” Nathan asked as he tried to let his mind focus more on the task at hand. He didn’t really think Evie would call for catching up purposes at 1:30, but it still unusual.

“This is not a drunk or a young crewman who broke up with some guy. This is a kid and she has no money or place to go. She seems like she hasn’t eaten in a while because I can’t fill her up. When she mentioned she couldn’t pay and I said don’t worry about it,” she has not stopped eyeing the door. It is one-thirty in the morning. I am not going to be responsible for some doe-eyed brunette asking for Han, whoever that is, roaming the station alone at this hour so it is you or security,” she said firmly.

“Fine, fine… I’ll… give me ten minutes,” he said as he pulled himself to the side of the bed as his eyes darted around looking for the pants he had taking over before sliding into bed. Looking up he saw Chloe coming in as he squinted as he tried to have his eyes focus on her.

“You’re up,” Chloe said turning the lights on low as she moved to the closet to get a bag. “What’s wrong?” Things never happened one at a time in life. Whatever had Nathan up meant he had his own issues.

“Why do you seem so worried,” he said softly as he began to pull the pants on, finding himself off balance slightly as he tried to keep himself upright as he grabbed for the nightstand to settle himself.

“I’m not worried,” she said moving to the dresser and opening a drawer. “I just got a call from Nicole. I need to go home for a while. My parents are fine but Molly is gone. I kept telling Kevin he couldn’t be so hard on Molly.” Pulling out a bottle from her dresser she dry swallowed another tablet. She had to remain calm. She would be no help to anyone if she let herself fall into hysterics as Nicole had. =/\=Computer when is the next shuttle leaving the Outpost for Earth=/\= she asked as she pulled an assortment of clothes from the dresser and stuffed them into the bag.

“I really wish you would stop taking those, you don’t need them,” he said to her as he began to run his hands through his hair as he sat back down as he looked around for his shirt. He wasn’t going to go in a uniform. Just his sweats and a t-shirt would do this early in the morning.

“Not now Nate,” she shot back frustrated. “And would you have me hysterical instead because it is your choice,” she started to let her voice raise feeling frustrated and angry.

=/\=The next departure for Earth is zero four hundred hours=/\= the artificially tinny voice replied back.

=/\=Computer book three passages for Harland Chloe, Harland Logan, and Harland Mara=/\= she stated in a calm voice. The meds were calming her now. Her voice had lost the tremble and shakiness of the panic she felt just five minutes before.

“I am going to head to Earth with the kids tonight. Can you talk to Mathias and follow me there later,” she asked pulling a winter coat and gloves out laying them on the bed as she pulled off her pajamas. “I can tell the clinic I am going on maternity leave early. I know you will have to do some shuffling with your patients so I will keep you up to date until you get there. Nicole is out of her mind with worry. I can’t blame her. She told me I was the only one that understands what’s going on and that she needs me. Nate,” she spun around to look at him, “I have to go. My family needs me.”

“Wait wait wait… Molly’s gone?” he said as he stood up thinking for a moment as he thought about the words. Putting his hands on Chloe’s shoulders he rubbed her to try and calm her down as he thought on everything going on.

“Yes and Nicole said she needs me. I am not going to let her go through what I..we did alone,” Chloe felt herself losing control as the memories of losing Maddie began to percolate to the surface.

“Honey this isn’t a pleasure cruise where we can just take off. I love Molly, she was in some ways my first little girl but… we can’t go running at the first sight of an issue back on Earth. What’s going to happen with the next crisis, and the next, and the next. Cause they are going to come, we can’t leave for them all before Starfleet throws us away for desertion.” Nathan said as he thought a bit about what Evie had said as he let go of Chloe as he paced their bedroom a bit.

“I don’t give a flying fuh,” she began to yell but stopped seeing Logan and Mara standing at the bedroom door in their footie pajamas. “Starfleet is not our family. They are,” she pointed at her kids. Her tone was getting angrier and angrier. “My mom was right. Coming here was a bad move. If I was in Boston I could toss them in the car and be there in an hour.”

“We came here to find us… even if we both didn’t know we needed to find us here at the same time. And I agree Starfleet isn’t our family, but they also hold our ticket… a ticket we can’t just decide to go away and not have consequences.” Nathan said as he thought about which way to go next. This was all so confusing, he had no idea where Molly left and now this wasn’t going to add to it.

Mara looked wide eyed between Nathan and Chloe not understanding what was happening. Her mommy and Daddy were supposed to be in a dark room where she and Logan curled up warm with them under the covers until morning. Slipping her hand into Logan’s she held it tightly. Logan had a look of panic compared to his sisters surprise. He was old enough to remember the fights between his mom and dad that resulted in his dad leaving. Seeing the bag on the bed caused a tear to roll down his cheek. All he wanted to do was yell at his dad for trying to leave and his mom for making his dad leave. He was just unable to say anything which made things worse.

“Buddy it is okay,” Chloe said looking at her son. She could tell he was about to cry and that was the last thing she needed. Nate seemed to want to debate something there was no debate on. “Buddy I promise it is going to be fine. Daddy is not leaving. We are. We are going on a trip to see nana okay,” Chloe tried to sound calm and reassuring. “Can you go get your stuff packed for mommy. Nana is going to be so excited to see you.”

“That’s not gonna make things better doll face… just please let me be the one who makes choices right now. I promise you I won’t for one second let any of this slide.” He said as he stood there wondering what all this pieces had to do with each other.

“Wait… doe-eyed brunette asking for Han…” Nathan said as he looked back at Chloe as she didn’t seem to be making the connection. “Molly, she always called me Han, NatHAN she used to joke cause of all the Star Wars movies I made her watch when she was younger, cause Kevin was always more of a Battlestar Galactica man… plebian,” he said as he shook his head as he wondered if it was just a crazy coincidence.

“What,” she said feeling her head start to pound as Logan stood in the door way starting to cry. Everything was happening so fast she was having a hard time processing it. The meds were making her head feel thick as it worked to keep her mood flat fighting the endorphins trying to push emotions through. “Logan stop crying,” she said firmly. As the little boy ran to her legs burying his face in them sobbing. “Nathan do something,” she gestured to Mara sobbing at the door and Logan crying at her feet.

“I’ll be right back hon… we can talk about you leaving when I do… and…” pausing Nathan moved to where she kept the pill bottle as he grabbed it and put it in his pocket. “We’ll talk about these later too… you don’t need them doll face.” he said as he made a push to the exit without letting much else be said.

“I need something if you are just going to walk out again on us for the job,” she said hiking Logan up on her hip trying to console him and fight it out with her husband at the same time.

“I’m not walking away hon…” Nathan said as he turned back to her as he picked up Logan and put him in his arm and did the same for Mara as he motioned for Chloe to follow him to the bed as he held their kids.

“Look guys, were not going anywhere until I find out what is going down at Evie… and I am right I know where cousin Molly is… everything’s gonna be alright okay.... just give me a chance to prove it okay?” he said, the statement seeming like he was asking the three of them but it was more poised at Chloe than anything.

“If I am wrong we can all go together in the morning, protocol be damned okay?” he added hoping that level of compromise would be enough to calm them all down.

Laying Mara down and then Logan Nathan kissed both of them as he tucked them in then moved to Chloe as he moved in to kiss her cheek. “How often am I really wrong on things doll face? Just relax and… let me see on my hunch. I promised you I would be us all first and I meant that… I am not going to ever let work ruin us again.” he said as he kissed her once more on the lips before getting off the edge of the bed as he moved the the end and took the suitcase and moved it to the side.

“Everyone try to rest, I should be back in 30 minutes” he said as he looked back at them all as he blew a kiss before heading out to see who was searching for Han.

— Ten Minutes Later —

Arriving at Evie’s restaurant, Nathan began to look around to find his friend and this mystery girl. “Evie?” he said aloud, the lights were so dim as it was closing hours but there were a few on in the back. Moving forward he went to where he assumed she had to be at.

Nathan Harland

“Uncle Nathan,” a familiar voice broke out,”help me.” A young girl with hair and eyes like Chloe’s ran across the space. Impacting him hard she closed her eyes and stared to cry. “I don’t want to go with them,” she said squeezing tighter around his waist with his arms as two civilian security officers approached him. As scared as she was things felt so much better now that she had found him. He would fix this. She knew it.

“Baby girl!” Nathan said as he wrapped his arms around her, he was right after all as he held onto her tightly. He wasn’t quite sure how she got here but he couldn’t be more thrilled to be right. Holding her close he patted the back of her head not letting go of her for anything as he embraced her.

“I didn’t call them,” Evie said throwing a dish towel over one shoulder as she approached Harland with two men behind her. “Seems she got into a little trouble getting here. They,” she hooked a finger over her shoulder at the two men in civilian attaire,” just arrived. I told them I had contacted Starfleet already but,”

Letting go of Molly Nathan looked at the two men as he wondered just what had been going on as he looked them over. “And who might you two be?” he asked, wanting to know just exactly what these men wanting with his niece.

“But as I explained to Mrs. McGarrett here we are not Starfleet and they have no jurisdiction over this. Seems Diana Marcus,” he gestured to the young woman wrapped around his waist, “has stolen passage all the way from Risa to here. Delta Shuttles can not allow stowaways. It is equivalent to stealing,” he said directing the comment more to the young kid than the man she was holding onto. “Seems she hid out in the bathrooms during the lay overs so she never had to get on or checked in with any leg of the journey except for the initial trip to Risa. We get this a lot with spring breakers. They sneak onto a shuttle and hide out in the rest rooms until after take off. When the crew found her they ran her identify card. It came back that she was arrested two weeks ago for drinking and driving but skipped out on showing up for her hearing. You are in a lot of trouble little girl,” the officer said firmly to the young girl still crying softly as she held on to Nathan.

“Who?” Nathan asked as they said the name looking back at Molly with a concerning face a father would have as he felt some of the pieces clicking.

“Uncle Nathan tell them I am not Diana Marcus,” she looked up at him begging for him to do something.

“Then why do you have her papers if she isn’t you? Huh? If you are traveling on false papers that is just another crime we can add to all your charges so you want to think about your answer again little girl,” the security shuttle lines officer asked gruffly.

Chloe

“Well guess what gentlemen, you don’t actually have jurisdiction here either. As you know Starfleet regulatory code 13.1a states all criminal activity against private or commercial entities on Starfleet properties whether in terrafirma or space based become insusent of the local security… which in this case is Starfleet as this outpost doesn’t have a civilian security force. You can press charges as you see fit against the individual after processing and an investigation … so you can if you want stay I hear Hotel OMAP is nice, or maybe operations can arrange quarters. Until that time if you try to touch a hair on this girl I will break both of your arms and make sure you understand not to cross over into jurisdictions you don’t understand.” Nathan said, the speech was long and pointed but the truth was he knew he would have to take her over to security eventually but right now he needed answers.

“Now, sewing as I have this under control you two… can get out of here before I call security on you for trespassing on Evie place…” Nathan pauses as he looked over at Evie as he smiled. “Isn’t that right Evie you asked these men to leave twice and they just never listened, threatened you even if I recall.”
