“Yes, Doctor. And I haven’t done brain surgery on a Klingon since at least last Thursday.” Vak managed to joke back, but the prospect of performing brain surgery on a species with that complex of an anatomy was daunting. He didn’t really care that he had the easy part.

A few minutes later he called out to her, “Doctor Stone, the surgical suite is ready for the patient.”

Ensign Dabor Vak, nurse

Paige nodded “Let’s go.” She said “Get him prepared for surgery.” Paige directed as she went to scrub up “Beckett, pull up all we have on the brain anatomy of a Klingon. In particular the area that we are looking at with the device.” She said “I want to do as little damage as possible.” She added “I don’t know that we will be able to.”

CMO

Paige looked at the patient for a moment “Laser scalpel.” She said holding out her hand as she finished cleaning the surgical site and prepared to make the initial incision.

“Laser scalpel,” repeated Vak as he handed it to her.

=/\=Medical what is going on there=/\=

With the doctor in the middle of performing the surgery and others present to assist, Vak decided it best he step away and respond. =/\= Ensign Dabor to Teller. Commander, Doctor Stone is currently performing brain surgery to remove an object from a Klingon patient’s brain. =/\=

Ensign Dabor Vak, Nurse

Paige continued working on removing the object “Suction.” She said as the area started to bleed more as she got closer to the object that was imbedded in his brain.”

CMO

“Suction,” repeated Vak as he handed her the proper tool. He noticed his hand jittering as he did so. Thankfully his movements weren’t the ones that needed to be precise.

As the Doctors worked a new arrival entered the room. A large man with a great black braided beard in a red Command Uniform with the pips marking him as a Lieutenant Commander stopped just a few meters away from the operation. He looked inside, tensed his jaw and put his hands behind his back. He could wait for the operation to end or until someone was no longer busy.

SOO - Baldur

Paige looked up through the window and noticed the new officer and turned her attention back to the surgery at hand. She had just exposed the device that had been implanted. SHe looked over at Vak “Okay. Forcepts.” She said and held out her hand, she was not sure exactly what they were dealing with “Scan this device and see if it goes any further than just here. I don’t want to pull on this until I know that it isn’t attached to further nerves.”

CMO

Baldur reached his massive neck to get a better look at the device from his distance, not an easy feat with all the commotion but a single look might be useful.

SOO - Baldur

“Yes, Doctor,” said Vak as he handed her the forcepts and then performed the scan. The Bajoran nurse looked up and noticed the command officer he had never seen before.

Ensign Dabor Vak, Nurse

Paige sighed =^=Computer turn on speaker in observation room=^=. She said =^=Commander Bragson, if you will look at the screen to your right, you can see what we’re working with.=^= She said knowing what he wanted to get a look at and rather than have him break his neck, she’d rather give him the first hand look. Turning her attention back to Vak who was scanning, she began to attempt to remove the device =^=I’ll make sure that you have a chance to examine it once we’re done here.=^= She said to the SOO.

CMO

Baldur contained a small smile as he turned to the screen on his right =^=Thank you doctor, apologies for any disturbances I may have caused=^= He said, although his deep bass made it hard to guess how genuine his apology was, the way he quickly made sure he wouldn’t be easily noticed after the call indicated him feeling that way. He carefully examined the device as closely as he could, although he came there with a different objective this had quickly grabbed his attention.

SOO - Baldur

Paige went back to working on removing the device, she paused and took some more detailed scans of the device and the brain to see how it was intertwined or if it was. She was trying to keep him from dying =^=Commander Bragson, I’m open to information on what this device is. =^= She said =^=If I remove it, it is going to blow up or kill him instantly.

CMO

Paige continued scanning to see how complicated this extracation was going to be. She waited for the additional scans to see where the device went to (GM: How deep does the device go and how complicated will it be to remove it?)

CMO

OC: Sorry for the delay, an assignment kept me from posting in a timely fashion.

The object itself was not lodged too far, in fact part of it would be seen peaking from in-between the two lobes of the brain, with the larger end seemingly wedged in deeper. If she was lucky, the extraction would not take too much effort, although considering the properties of the object, that might not be saying much.

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

Baldur immediately went to the nearest console and tapped a few commands =^=Understood doctor, I’ll compare scan data of the device with known devices=^= He also gave it a good look over using his own experience with explosive devices, which was considerable =^=Computer bring up information on all comparable technology=^= He ordered as he tapped through the sensor data on the device.

SOO - Baldur

Paige nodded as she began to carefully remove the devise from the Klingon’s brain, it was delicate and she tried to do it without causing further damage to the brain than had already been done by implanting the device. =^=Commander Bragason do you want the device for additional examination?” She asked as she carefully put it on a tray next to her and began closing up the skull and the incision that she had made.

CMO

<bump>

Baldur looked up =^=Yes please, anything to learn more about it” He paused “Do we know how what it was doing there yet?”=^= He asked, he had been sent to there to find out what was going on, the mystery device was interesting for sure but knowing more was better.

SOO - Baldur

Paige shook her head as she nodded to one of the nurses to take the device to Baldur “We have no idea what it is supposed to do or how it got there.” She said “I now have to wonder if the others also have one of these devices.” She said as she finished closing up the wound and used a dermal regenerator on the incision to heal the wound.

CMO

Baldur examined the device visually first before placing it under a scanner “It might not be the worst idea to check, according to some strange dress lady there’s time shenanigans afoot” The sentence may have been comical if it wasn’t for the deep Scandinavian accented seriousness in it. There was no option that he saw where the device was a good thing.

SOO - Baldur

Paige nodded and watched as the Klingon was taken back to the recovery area. Paige stepped into the changing area and cleaned herself up and removed her scrubs. She stepped out to talk to Baldur “Okay. What is this time shenanigan’s going on?” She asked “So I know what I’m looking for if anything.” She added as she motioned for one of the nurses to start scanning the other patients for a similar device.

CMO

Baldur continued to scan the device “I’m not certain, a woman who appears to have been your patient was in Ops talking to the Captain in riddles, it’s the original reason I came down here to figure out what happened.” He said in his deep bass.

SOO - Baldur

Paige looked at Baldur =^=Captain, are you still with the woman?=^= She asked =^=If she is I would like to talk with her as well if possible.=^=

CMO

Baldur looked up and gave the Doctor a queer look “Uhm I think that the strange lady vanished. Besides, she was very vague about giving answers regarding anything. A strange bird that” He said with an awkward tone.

SOO - Baldur

=^= Doctor, the Victorian woman vanished. I think she was your missing Trill patient, but why that would make sense I couldn’t tell you. Now I’m at my mother’s coffee shop and there’s a knight lady in full armor who has one of the fragments. We seem to have interrupted her invasion. Also there’s a future version of Cera Teller. There may be some kind of a time thing going on. What is your status? =^=

Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO

It was then that the ‘device’ that they were holding started to shift form a few times before settling on stone.

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

Baldur had been momentarily distracted by the Captain’s update when the device started shifting. He almost jumped back a step as he looked at it change. He looked at the Doctor next to him then back at the stone now sitting in front of him =^=Uhm Captain, the device Doctor Stone removed from her patient just turned to stone. It changed into several other materials before stopping at stone.” His tone slightly perplexed “I’m starting detailed analysis now.=^= Baldur said as he started his scan once more.

SOO - Baldur

The voice of the captain came over the comm again. =^= Understood. Hopefully we’ll be able to take a look at the one here as well. When you learn more let me know. McGarrett out. =^=

Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO

Paige looked at Baldur “So knights in armor, victorian ladies and now this thing turning to stone.” She pinched the bridge of her nose “So are we looking at the same thing causing the issue or are we looking at multiple issues?” She asked “And who would implant a device such as this into someone’s brain, especially if it can do something like this.” She said “I’ll be in main sickbay checking on my other patients. I’ll keep you posted if something comes up.” She said.

CMO

Baldur turned to the rock and scratched his head, this was far beyond his expertise that much was certain. “Yeah likewise here” He answered and gave the Doctor a nod “I’ll see if I can’t figure out what caused the device to turn to stone” He placed both hands on his hips and sighed and then returned to look over the scans to see if there was something that triggered the changed.

SOO Baldur

Paige nodded and headed back into main sickbay and began assessing the other patients in sickbay to make sure they didn’t have any additional surprises waiting for them. She wondered what would have happened had that device turned to stone while it was in the Klingon’s brain......She went and checked on him and made sure that he was as comfortable as possible.

CMO

Paige sat down at her desk and began doing research on what might cause a device to turn to stone. She had the scans of the device that she had taken during the surgery to compare with other devices that were in the medical data base. SHe set the computer to do a comparison of the device with all known devices in both the Federation Database and the Vulcan Database.

OOC: GM does the computer find anything?

CMO

<Bump>

<bump for GM>

The computer found that the stone did in fact have a match to the tablet that had been scanned by the science team early that day. Reports showed that the tablet had disappeared, but records were showing that in the commercial district another stone of similar properties had been recently scanned as well.
