Three weeks later on the USS Janus

“We are never having sex again,” Chloe stepped into the main living area from the sleeping chamber groaning. “I know there is no friction in space but I swear I can feel us moving.” Taking a seat at the table, she put her head into her hands and looked down. The first few weeks of her pregnancy had been fun. The last few weeks not so much. Chloe was pale indicating she had either just thrown up or was about to. For the tenth time today, Chloe wished they had not taken the roundabout to leave Cestus.

“Oh love… we both know that isn’t true… you can’t quit when you are the Picasso of sex.” Nathan said with a line that was cheesy in almost any arena, but he couldn’t help but make it sound like it was a line he had crafted from pure vibrato as he leaned in and kissed the top of her forehead.

“Ughhhhhh,” Chloe groaned rolling her eyes with a smile spreading on her face. “You pick up women with malarky like that. I expected more from a devastatingly handsome but slightly brooding officer on leave.” The moment of levity vanished almost as quickly as it surfaced. Crossing her arms, Chloe laid her head on the tabletop wishing there was more room aboard the runabout. “Besides, I see myself more as a DaVinci than Picasso. Amazing with anatomy and wildly creative.”

The wish was pointless however because there was no way either remaining on Cestus or waiting for another ship was an option. Nathan was a brilliant doctor. The commander of Cestus fought Nathan’s request to leave tooth and nail. Commodore Loughlin sent countless letters to command citing how Nathan’s expertise was critical for the success of the operation. This was countered every step of the way by Senator Matthew Harland’s request that Nathan be transferred back to Starfleet Medical. The political battle was as bloody as any on a battlefield yet in the end the Senator won so Nate and Chloe were headed home.

Raising her head slightly she saw the starfield in the viewport and dropped her head to the table with a thud with a moan. “You know why morning sickness hasn’t been cured yet? It is because men don’t suffer from it,” she stated emphatically.

“Oh no… we suffer, trust me we suffer. The mood swings, the sound of vomit in the morning, the fear of objects thrown at our heads and the sound of break glass from the impacts… we suffer. Maybe more so, cause it’s a guess when it will happen, we have no warning… our loving and devoted lover goes from pleasant and charming to a form of hells spawn even Sam and Dean couldn’t send back to hell… we suffer.” Nathan countered, knowing fully well nothing he said would win him any points but not taking the shot that is in front of him would be a cardinal sin.

“Again we are never having sex again,” Chloe spoke though her tone was muffled as she spoke through her arms with her head down. A long pause filled the space before she spoke again. “Nathan I am not doubting your medical expertise,”

“I think you need to rethink Hyperemesis gravidarum. I know you say I don’t have it but doctors don’t know their butt from their elbow most of the time. Remember when Dr. Capo said it was just gastro reflux and it turned out to be a Belundium Esphogeal worm.” Chloe lifted her head. Her cheeks began to redden with frustration. “I diagnosed that. Dr. Silverman with Tranolonitis. Dr. Urps with Kelnotian Syndrome. Dr. Turner with Enclavitis. Who pointed out that they misdiagnosed those conditions. Me, me oh and me,” she felt anger swelling along with the bile in her throat. “If you say this is just normal I will stab you in your sleep for malpractice.”
