While warren goes through everything he then realizes that he needs to go back to his command post on the station. His area of expertise which is engineering and operations. If he didnt get there something would be wrong with the station. He is the one who keeps things up in one piece and in working order. He knows that if he hadn’t gotten there at all something is gonna go bad and nothing will get done and things will not be functioning as much as it should be so he then decides to go and run a diagnostic on the stations systems just to be on the safe side just in case, cause if he hadn’t things wouldnt have gone so well if he hadn’t. So since the fact that it is his duty to keep the station up and running he knows what hes doing. Looking at the fact that he is working by himself at the moment doesnt bother him.

Lt. Warren

“Lieutenant,” called a voice from behind Bernie, which turn out to be Captain McGarrett. “A non-Starfleet resident of the Outpost named Char’kat Morden has volunteered to join the crew. I’m assigning her to your team. I normally wouldn’t try something like this, but the woman has served as XO on a Klingon ship and has an engineering background, so I think she’ll be a real asset. That or a real pain in the neck. Maybe both.” Probably both, thought Mathias to himself.

Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO

“Yes sir. I would actually like to have someone here with me so it’s not just me doing everything which I dont mind doing everything. But having someone with a engineering background would be nice. If it’s okay with you sir to have a little check in with her before putting her to work.” He asked the captain as he smiled. Warren was kind of used to working along side klingons from the beginning. Nevertheless, having someone there to help him out is a good idea. Especially for someone like him. He didnt really mind the idea having a Klingon on board. Only as long as she listen well to instructions and everything he is fine with.

Lt. Warren

Mathias nodded, pleased that Lieutenant Warren seemed agreeable to the new officer. “Absolutely. I’m having her get cleared by medical and the counselor before sending her to you. I expect she will be an asset. Keep in mind though, that while she’s new to Starfleet she does have XO experience. I can already tell she’s used to carrying authority and she won’t be afraid to tell you all things she thinks you’re doing wrong. What you might be doing wrong, I have no idea. But I’m sure you will be told shortly after she joins your staff.”

Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO

“Yes sir. But she does know I am department head right. Weather she has XO authority or not, she still technically does what I say correct sir. I mean I can take input but being ordered by her is not gonna fly with me. I know my place well enough around here that I can see my own mistakes. Sir.” Warren said with not a unhappy or happy smile. But he knows that when someone else gives him orders and all isnt gonna fly with him. He knows that it is his department and he is not gonna let no ones else’s authority get into the way unless it’s the CO’s orders only. Cause since with him being in Starfleet, he follows the orders if his commanding officer no one else’s. Weather or not it is Warren’s department and he doesnt like it when someone else other then the captain tells him what to do. While that happens Warren knows that taking input from her is acceptable.

Mathias mulled whether or not bring up this concern of his was going to do his young Chief of Operations more harm than good. There wasn’t any sense in getting him more worried than he needed to be. But on the other hand, he didn’t want him to be blindsided either. The old concept of sunk cost that he had learned about in school came to mind. He didn’t have anything to gain by second guessing himself at this point and he still thought the head’s up could help Bernie be braced. “Oh yes, she very much gets the concept of the chain of command and respects it. I just wanted you to have a head’s up that I don’t think she’ll hesitate to mention it if she thinks there’s a better way to do things. She certainly hasn’t held anything back from telling me about my backwards approaches to how I run this place. But don’t fret about it. If I didn’t think it would work out I wouldn’t be bringing her on board.”

Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO

“Captain it’s not that I’m worried about anything. I’m glad that she is here and I’m glad she respects the chain of command. And I’m willing to have her feedback with anything that will work out. Honestly I’m honored to have her on my team. But what I am more concerned about is if I’m gonna have more people on the team and that they don’t have a problem having her here with us. Cause honestly, with her insight for me when I ask it or if she tells me anything I’m willing to have that. I have no objections to it at all and I feel like that it’s best that shes here. I’m really glad and honored. But it’s a very small team though. When are we expected to have more people? If needed I can give you a number on how many people I’ll be needing for the team. If you’d like to know.” He said to the captain. With no hesitation. He knows that it’s best to having someone here with him at his side if needed to help.

Lt. Warren

Mathias nodded as he listened. It was a good thing he stopped by for a chat with Bernie as this was exactly the sort of thing he needed to hear. Fortunately the chief wasn’t afraid to say something. “I hear you, which is exactly why I’m sending Ms. Morden your direction rather than have her join another department. The XO and I will see what we can do. If you’re aware of officers that might be willing to transfer here let me know and we’ll consider them. I’m sure part of the issue is just how old this station is. Things are probably falling apart faster than you can fix them. By the way, did you know about the weird rattle in the turbolift? I noticed that this morning on my way to Ops.”

Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO

“Rattling sir? No I have not. I will have her go and take a look at it as soon as I can sir. I’ll make sure that it’ll get fixed up right away and I’ll report to you when it’s completed. I’ll have her also make the repairs put them on a PaDD and I’ll bring it to you.” He said as the captain understood everything as though he is happy for the new person for the Lt. team. It’s helpful. Not knowing that he was gonna do most of but all repairs on board was gonna to be hard and tough but, with that being said it will be helpful for him that the civilian is there to help him out.

Lt. Warren

Mathias smiled as he listened. Some of the things Bernie said reminded him of himself when he was a very young department head. He supposed he used to be that eager to please at one point as well. “Good. But I don’t need you to tell me and I don’t need a PADD brought to me. Just take care of it and mention it in the weekly report you already write up. I told you about it and I trust you to take care of it. If there’s a bigger underlying issue then let me know. But otherwise, I trust you to deal with what you need to. Micromanaging may be a fairly popular command style. It’s just not one I’ve decided would be efficient. I’ve got to focus on the major concerns.”
