Char had returned to her room at the establishment she had been working at. The proprietor had allowed her to keep the accommodations with the request that one night a week she still act as muscle for him. She had agreed and then made an appointment to see the Counselor. When the time came, she tapped the chime on the office door that would permit her entrance.

Unlike most who wanted the station, the Klingon had no Fleet uniform. But she wasn’t here as a Fleet acquirement. She was here, on loan, she imagined, for the duration of time it would take her Captain to finish his personal business and return. She just hadn’t been sure how long that would be. A deep breath filled her lungs and she exhaled and shook her head. “How did you get here, Char?” She half murmured to herself as she waited to be granted admittance.

From inside the office, there could be slight murmuring, almost bordering on shouting could be heard as Char stood in front of the door as she waited for the door to open.

Nathan inside was trying to keep calm, but his patient was testing him. “Linda I swear to all that is holy, if you don’t get out of here I will get you sedated and locked down in your quarters. I am not here to tell you how bad Bob is, I am here to listen and help you with your emotions, and if you are not willing…” Nathan paused as a near grunting sound as the woman on the couch just shouted if he had just wounded her beyond any belief.

“BUT HE WON’T STOP EATING THE CANDY!” she said, it was a red look on her face as she stood up. “IF YOU CAN’T HELP ME GET HIM TO STOP PUTTING SUGAR IN HIM LIKE CRACK WHO WILL?” she said in a yell that could be heard two decks down.

“Oh sweet Jesus Linda, he is a grown-ass man. As I told you last time you are just feeling upset he will no longer eat your food and upset he moved you here. Things I can help /YOU/ with if you want, but I cannot, and will not order medical to come to stop your husband from eating the candy and not your lasagna. Now, get the hell out of my office or I will gladly throw you out myself.” Nathan said as he walked over and pressed the chime on the door as it opened to Char.

“Look, I already got the person to put on your straight jacket if you don’t leave… Starfleet is prompt…” he said as he waved his hand toward his door as he stared down the woman daring her to say more.

“Fine fine… same time next week?” Linds said as she seemed embarrassed to have had someone at the door as she stood up as she began to walk to the door. She paused as she seemed to shift her mouth wondering if she had lost her time slot with her recent outbreak.

“You are still scheduled, and yes Chloe would love the clothes for the baby… now please… get out,” Nathan said with a sense of curtness but mixed with an almost appeasing tone.

Nodding, the woman began to push past Char as Nathan took a deep breath as he looked back at Char before walking back into his office. “If you are not Starfleet you will need to give me your details in that PaDD for records,” Nathan said as he pointed to the coffee table as he walked over to a cabinet as he opened up a door as he began to pour a glass of whiskey as he took a quick swig as he shook his head before straightening his uniform before looking back at Char.

“So… you are?” Nathan said as he offered out his hand for the PaDD, expecting a name to follow up with it too.

Nathan Harland, CNS

Char raised a brow as the door opened, her body blocking the woman for half a second as the weight of the Counselor’s threat registered in her mind. As the woman calmed and the man dismissed her, Char stepped aside and let the woman pass.

A moment later, as the door slid back into place behind her, she mused silently to herself as the man before her took a large draw of whiskey as he ordered her info be inputted into the PaDD on the table. She lifted the tablet and did as she was told, her name, last ship, rank and given job of assistant to the Operations Chief. Since she didn’t have a formal title, and had been sent to help the Chief, it seemed a reasonable answer to the query on the form.

She handed Nathan the small device as he reached for it. “Char’kat Morden, formally XO of the I.K.S. Khazad’hea. Temporarily assigned to the Chief of Operations per the Captain.” She remained standing where she was, curious if he last person would bleed over onto her. She was prepared to go toe to toe with the man, should it be required. But she sincerely hoped not. Falling silent to allow him a moment to figure her out, she glanced quickly around the room. Potential weapons as well as the decor were registered in her mind. Some habits couldn’t be curtailed no matter how safe one felt.

Nathan’s room felt sometimes like a menagerie or misshaped design. There was a time when Nathan’s veneer was sharp and aesthetically modern but marriage and four kids later he found finding a place that could settle as both working location as well as a second home for his kids.

“Pleasure Char, would you like something?” Nathan said as he gestured back to the liquor cabinet before stepping down into the lower landing as he placed the glass on his desk before moving to the couch area.

“I can also replicate something more to your tastes.” He added as he gestured to the couch for her to sit when she was ready. Sitting down waiting for her to follow up.

Harland, CNS

Char shook her head. “I am fine, thank you.” Moving down into the lowered area, she took a seat on the prescribed couch and shook her head once more. “No, there is no need. I shall get something to eat later, Sir. Thank you. I have come because the Captain has given me leave to work for the Chief of Operations. But before I can see him, I am to be found safe, and fit for duty, by yourself and medical. I believe, since I am aware I am physically fit, I would see you first. If you clear me, then medical should have no problems and I shall be able to see the Chief first thing in the morning, Sir.”

Still unsure how to address the man, she deferred to the Sir rather than the rank.

Klingon… ummm
Yeah

“You can just call me Nathan, I’m not here to serve you your walking papers. I could care less about your past, you can have daddy issues for all I care. It isn’t my goal to fix someone who shows up for a new posting. You got this far cause past exams that were intended to be far more thorough checked you over.” Nathan said as he said down at looked Char over before taking a sip from his drink once more. “So, don’t expect therapy questions from me… instead lets just start with you telling me something about you, something I can’t find in some stodgy file.”

Harland, CNS

Char sat down on the edge of one of the couches. His speech wasn’t something she had been prepared for and it rose him in her eyes in a way she hadn’t expected. “As you wish, Nathan. Call me Char. It is easier on the human tongue.” When he asked about something not in her file, she raised a curious brow. “As I know nothing that is in the file, that is hard to tell. I was Second Officer of the ship I was on. I have not been through your Academies or trainings and know only that I cannot remain here without earning my keep in a sufficient way.” She was fidgeting slightly in her seat as she contemplated the things to say.

“I do not believe your file would say it, but I have a fondness for Earth Chocolate desserts and I believe that while the Klingon Empire is still superior in many ways, Earth’s Federation is not something to shirk a shoulder at or dismiss out hand. I believe the power it wields and the strength of its people is just not as loud as Klingon power is.” She wasn’t sure if that made sense to him. Not many Klingons, if any, would ever claim humans were worth much. But she had known and seen plenty to know she would gladly die beside many of them and not think it weak of either side.

Char
(an oddity amongst Klingons) lol

((bump for board while I figure out next check in step lol))
