Scrap? But these are new. But you mean torn down.” he sighed and took up the glass as it was delivered. “I’m more used to shuttles being torn down, not a filter. Could be to get through the checks. Lots of places on the station to have a chop shop. Could be in the back room here for all we know.” As much as he knew he didn’t know anything about scrap planets that serviced things less than old cruisers and typically were located near battlegrounds from recent or not so recent wars. Lifting the glass, he said, “A dark malt beer mixed with a shot of Betazed black rum.” He snorted. “They must drink a lot of that before going to their weddings.”

Char’s voice came over Khain’s comm. =^=Sir, cargo bay secured. Standing by awaiting orders.=^= It was short and to the point. No point in getting all speechy with the Captain when it wasn’t needed. Char sat back in the Command Chair and glared at another Klingon she knew eyed that same seat. She’d have to inform Khain about it on his return.

=/\= Morden! =/\= Khain replied into his comm, =/\= Come and join Mr Brako and I for a drink, follow my locator and bring the cargo manifest of our reclaimed goods. Lets see if Mr Brako can make use of anything before we get rid of it. Oh, and come casual, drop the body armor. =/\=

Nikki thought that the body armor made the Klingon dames look like Valkyrie’s of old.

There was a slight pause and the woman’s voice came back over the comm. =^=Yes, Sir… on my way.=^=

“Some of those parts can be used by other systems in a pinch,” Khain said turning back to Brako and nodding as the waitress dropped of his glass. He assumed it was a waitress anyway, it was hard to see under the hood and he didn’t make much effort to do so. “So in many ways they are more valuable as parts than whole items, but we will see if anything in our hold is useful to you.” Raising his glass he took a drink of his own, it was a simple lager, he had forgone the traditional Klingon drinks for something simple.

Captain Khain

“Are ye here long?” he asked, eyes taking in what was going on in the room. “And more’s the question, who else do ye do business with here?” He was still learning the levels of people present on this station. The Fleet types. The Civilians and Merchants. And the .. interesting folk.

“I won’t be here long if I can help it,” Khain said with a grin. “The letter of Marque issued by the High Council requires immediate action, but I plan to use this Outpost as our staging area for Operations. I doubt Starfleet would take issue with redirecting the needed items we recover through here to their rightful homes, wherever that may be.”

“As to business, that is a burning question for the items we cannot re-home. Things neither Starfleet nor the KDF wants or has on their minds. I hear there may be a number of business opportunities here, I just need to find them.”

Captain Khain

Nikki’s brow rose at that and he looked thoughtfully at his bottle. “I think that we may be able to come to an agreement on ‘lost’ items through my family’s business.” His gaze looked back at Khain. “No point in complicatin matters with too many fingers in the pie, ye know.”
- Nikki

“Of course, I despise the paperwork that comes with many fingers anyway. Things get lost, communication breaks down and things get complicated. I like simple.” He raised his bottle of beer in Brako’s direction, “To the family business.”

Nikki tapped the bottle with his and took a drink. “Family,” he said. “Aye.”

It was maybe fifteen minutes later when the female Klingon wandered into the bar and looked for her Captain. Seeing him across the room with another man, she headed for them and waited till she got her Captain’s attention. She wasn’t one to interrupt the man. She knew better. She wasn’t in her uniform, though for a Klingon it was hard to tell. She was in black pants and boots with a dark enough grey shirt it was closer to the realm of black. She was unadorned as far as jewelry went, save for a single silver circlet on her her left wrist. It was by no means delicate and had some kind of faded markings on it. her hair was down to the small of her back, it was pressed behind her ears, but not pulled back with any type of clip or barrette.

“Huh, you’re in luck, she dressed up.” Khain said as his eyes fell on his Executive Officer and he nodded in her direction. “Morden! Join us!” He called out and moved aside to make room for Char at the bar. “What are you drinking tonight? This is my friend, Mr Brako,” he introduced Nikki, “He is the stations Chief of Operations.”

Captain Khain

Nikki thought that basic black was not particularly dressed up. He thought Klingons liked to add some dark red to their colors for effect. “Morden,” he said as he took her in. She was spare in appearance but for one thing that had value. He guessed it was an heirloom that had significance as that was the one thing that stood out. “Call me Nikki,” he said.
- Nikki

“Whatever you are, Sir…” she said in response to the query for the drink. She then glanced at her Captain’s new ‘friend’. “Evening, Nikki. I am Char’kat Morden. But Morden is sufficient.”

She seemed a bit more quiet than most Klingons. But she wasn’t one for being boisterous and unless it was a Klingon drinking establishment, she wasn’t a huge fan of general bars and pubs.

“Just beer for now,” Khain replied and waved to the barkeep for another. “Oh, and bring some of those crunchy things humans eat,” he called to the man. “I forget the name, they are curly and hard.”

“Nikki here may be able to help us with some of the cargo we acquire that has no home,” he explained to Morden. “Certain items that the Outpost can use we can donate for a good cause, it appears some items from here have been going missing as well, we may have to keep an eye open for them in our travels.”

Captain Khain

Char took the beer when it arrived and stepped back once more. “Yes, Captain. I will get a full inventory to you within the hour. And will make sure we keep an eye out.” Her head inclined, on the last part, to Nikki. She wasn’t asking for permission to have the hour. She wasn’t someone who padded her answers to make herself look better. If she said she could have it in an hour, she would.

Nikki scrutinized Morden as he put back a swallow. The lass was a quiet Kling and earlier he had crossed paths with a snowflake Rommie. What was it about this station that it attracted utterly uncharacteristic elements. At least the trumped up dictator of a security chief fit the mold. “Aye, lass. I’m missin things and I don’t like te be missing me things,” by his tone the sentence could have been finished with ‘when they’re makin a profit out of them’. “May even be marked as scrap,” he added, then shrugged. “Take a load off. Tomorrow is soon enough. This mess wasn’t built in a day, but somehow the powers felt that droppin poor ol Nikki into the middle of it was a grand plan.” He smirked before taking a short swallow suggesting he was in no way feeling put out.

Char took a long draw from her drink and looked at Nikki. A slight upturn of her lip was matched by a flash of something in her eyes. “I somehow doubt the words ‘poor ol’‘ and ‘Nikki’ are ever used in the same breath.” She looked at him for a long moment and wondered just what his line was. There was more to him than simply being the Ops manager around here. She had known many. But this one had the likings of a smuggler about him. It amused her and she figured her Captain’s comradery with the man was because he saw the same thing.
