While they waited, Toveka worked on programming the biologic sample she pulled up to mimic a neuro network. If she could get the shard to think it was back in living tissue, back in a brain, maybe she could figure out what it was made for.

Toveka took up the small container with the fragment in it. “You said this wasn’t in this form in the Klingon’s brain?” She set the container down beside a medium sized petri dish that contained what looked like discolored jelly that was thinning on the edges into liquid. Slipping on gloves and goggles and picking up a pair of small clamps, Toveka looked at him and gave a wry smile. “Are you ready for this?” She looked at him and nodded to the glasses on the rack over the console. There were six pairs there as well as another box of disposable gloves. She wanted something closer to skin thickness to keep her dexterity from being compromised. So she had opted not to use the haz gloves which were bulkier and less maneuverable.

Baldur took a position behind the scientist, he wanted to observe whatever would happen if anything. “Yes, we should have some scan data regarding it on the computer” He stated in his calm deep voice. He grabbed the goggles and put on the protective gloves then went back to his original position “As ready as I’ll ever be” He said wit a faint smile on his lips.

Toveka lifted the chip a bit higher a moment, then slowly placed it in the dish of replicated ‘brain matter’ and inhaled a sharp breath as she waited for a reaction.

Baldur leaned a little to the side to get a better view of whatever was happening.

Suddenly, the brain matter started to sizzle, before it began to multiply at an alarming rate. However, this wasn’t the end, as the multiplication suddenly stopped, and instead began to reverse itself. It kept on fluctuating back and forth, and every time the scan results were the same at every stage that the matter had the same mass as earlier.

Toveka frowned. “That can’t actually be right,” she murmured and ran the diagnostic to be sure the equipment was functioning properly. “How can it grow and shrink at such an alarming, and obvious rate, yet still retain the same mass?” She was thinking out loud as she shifted the probes to get a reading on just the crystal as the brain mass shifted around it.

Baldur shrugged, this was way beyond his area of expertise “Is the extra matter some visual hallucination then or are we perhaps experiencing a temporal event?” He asked, leaning towards the apparent temporal issues they’d been facing.

(had hoped a GM would step in… gonna take it on anyway)

“I don’t believe it is a hallucination or holo projection.” She tapped the matter with the end of a long glass probe. “As for a temporal event it would have to be extremely localized. And then I wonder what, if any, chance in the Klingon has occured from when it had this in him to now without it.” She sighed. “I’m not sure what it is.”

Moving to the console on her right, she started to tap in new parameters. “This medium we have it in is meant to be the same as brain matter. So my question is, is it only reactive to brain matter of humanoids? It’ll take a few minutes. I’m replicating animal brain matter to see if it reacts the same. If it does, then perhaps its the neural connections or the brain itself that it latches on to. If it doesn’t, then we know it’s targeted for a purpose and we need to find out why a lot sooner rather than later. Should also probably talk to Security about getting its makeup linked to a scanner so we can see if anyone else has one of these things in them.”

OOC: Sorry for the delay, I’m back to regular posting limits now

The animal brain matter also ended up being affected the same way, only this time it shifted between the replication light and the decomposed remains. The computer compared the two test results and came to the conclusion that it was indeed temporal in nature.

Mr. Snuggles (GM)

Toveka looked at the results and frowned. “Ok… you were right. Though I hate to admit it. They are temporal in nature. My guess is the chip was use to somehow allow our Klingon guest to move between us and the place, or time, he came from.” She sighed and shook her head. Turning around, she rested against the console and looked at Balder. “Sadly, that means, since we removed it, he’s stuck here with us. I don’t dare ask medical to try and replace it. We don’t know which neurons it needs to bed with to make it work. I won’t subject anyone to this level of ‘experimenting’.”

She looked down at her hands. “Makes me wonder, sometimes, what I would have studied had I gone medical.” Looking back up at him, she shrugged. “But I can’t do it all. And security and science knowledge are about all my brain can handle.”

Baldur smiled at her comment, he felt similar regarding his own experiences as a Tactical Officer and now his position as SOO, mind always fixed on the Tactical nature of his existence “o you think it’s possible to attach the device to some sort of probe, use it to send it to wherever the other side is and receive it back here?” His thoughts immediately turning to how to gather the most intelligence possible.
