Just then a familiar face to many, walked into the medical bay. Toveka had been gone nearly a year and her arrival back had been without fanfare. So she wasn’t actually expecting an kind of warm welcome when she walked into the sickbay and looked around to see who was there. The half Romulan features open and pleasant as much as she could make them. There was something comforting about coming home.

Lt JG Toveka Brine
Science

Paige looked up at the newcomer to Sickbay “Lt Brine. Welcome back.” She said warmly “How are you doing? How did your project go?” She asked gesturing to one of the bed “And we have a puzzle of our own here…one that may interest you as well.” She said “I assume you’re here for your physical?”

CMO

Toveka smiled slightly at the woman. “Yes, I am here for my physical. The project went well, thank you for inquiring.” She moved to sit on the nearest biobed. “For the first time, we were lucky enough to see if turn to a black hole instead of a neutron. The readings we got will help the Fleet understand where black holes come from and hopefully be able to predict, in time, if a collapsed star will neutron or black hole ‘before’ it happens.”

She listed to Paige’s mention of a puzzle and raised her eyebrows in curiosity. “A puzzle, hm? How intriguing. Anything you can impart to me?” Her check up would show a broken right wrist had occurred during her absence. It was mended well and healing in good order. There was still some muscle trauma, but nothing a little therapy and occasional icing wouldn’t help.

Paige looked at the scans “Well, you’re wrist is healing nicely. Keep icing it and do some stretches that I will give you.” She said “Otherwise you’re fit for duty.” Paige added and then moved onto the puzzle, motioning for Toveka to join her at the console “Here we have a Klingon male. He was experiencing some sort of crisis, our scans found this handy dandy little gem embedded in his brain.” She said showing her the device that had been removed “Within an hour of us removing it, it turned to this.” She then showed a picture of the lump of coal like substance. “So that is our current problem. What is that thing and why did it turn to that after we removed it.”

CMO

The scientist nodded at the instructions about her wrist. Then slid from the biobed and looked at the console.

Her fingers danced lightly over the console to get better angles of the gem and the coal like leftover. “My first reaction would be that whatever neural connections it had gave it form like the crystal. A lighting up and fractalling of the surface. The loss of that neural stimulus and the covering returns to protect what’s inside.” She shook her head and stepped back. “Without actually studying it and trying to recreate it’s crystalline fed environment to be certain.” She was fascinated, to be sure and it showed on her face.

“Check in with Baldur, he’s the one working with it right now.” Paige said “If you learn of anything, let me know.” She said “Once the klingon is awake, I’ll talk to him and see if I can learn anything further from him.”

CMO

“As you wish…” Toveka touched the woman’s arm with a final reassurance and took off to find Baulder. The rest of her check in was going to have to wait. She just hoped the CO would understand.

If the computer were asked Baldur could be found in front of the Science labs on deck 14.

Baldur- SOO

Paige watched as Toveka left Sickbay. They had a puzzle on their hands and no real answers. She went back to her own research in the medical journals looking for similar instances.

CMO

A few minutes later the familiar bass of Baldur Bragason came through the comm =^=Bragason to Doctor Stone, could you transport the artifact you excised from the Klingon to the Science lab, Lieutenant Toveka wants to simulate a neuro-electric field to see if we can return it to its previous state=^=

SOO - Baldur

Paige nodded and then realized no one was with her =^=Of course.=^= She said and went over to the artifact and transported it to the science lab. =^=Let me know if you need anything else.=^= She said as the item disappeared from her work station.

CMO

Sometime later, alarm klaxons went off and warning messages to shelter in place broadcast. Towards the back wall of Sickbay, motes of light began to flutter. The swirl of lights indicated the materialization of a transport. The figure that materialized was a figure dressed in the red of Security and had Lieutenant Commander pips on his collar… and a drawn phaser. He looked around and yelled at the CMO “Station Security! The Skipper told me to get down here… what the h&^l is going on?” and he looked around the room for hostiles.

Tenkiller, CoS

Paige looked at Tenkiller “I don’t know. I just got a notice to shelter in place.” She said “Does this have to do with the Klingon?” She asked “That’s the only think I can think of that has been different.” She tried to piece together what is going on.

CMO

“Klingon? What Klingon?” Tenkiller asked and then he stopped and took a breath. “We have unknown hostiles on the station. They are in the Promenade and seem to be.. I dunno… maybe looking for someone… or something. The Captain looked at me and said ‘Infirmary’ before he passed out from the riot gas. Can you think of any reason he would send me here? Any thing he was invested in in this area?”

Tenkiller, CoS

bump

Paige looked at Tenkiller “We have two or three people in here, the Klingon had a device that we removed a device from his brain that may have been causing some of the issues. I don’t know what else is going on. But I do know that we need to keep our patients safe. Why was there riot gas on the Bridge?” She asked now going back to what Tenkiller had said.

CMO

“Device?! What device? Where is it now?!” he asked quickly. That’s got to be what the Skipper is worried about! he thought to himself.

Tenkiller, CoS

Suddenly a deep booming voice sounded over the intercom =^=Baldur to Tenkiller, What exactly’s going on?= ^=

SOO- Baldur

Tenkiller responded =^= Hell if I know. We have multiple hostiles on the Promenade, and the Skipper has me on some wild goose chase here in medical for something the Doc just told me about. Dollars to donors that’s what this is about, so I’m trying to find the damn thing. =^= His voice was frustrated and irritated.

Tenkiller, CoS

Toveka frowned. If he was in medical, she had a feeling she knew what he was seeking. Her own comm activated and a slightly Romulan accented voice came to his ears. =^=Tenkiller, Sir. The Captain just came by here and said the same thing. That he wanted us to look for something they might be looking for. I say we compare notes and see what we come up with. Maybe we can find it quicker.=^=

“She’s lying Commander,” spoke the voice of a Bajoran ensign who had been focusing on tending to the Klingon patient the whole time.

He continued, “Sir, Doctor Stone beamed the device to their location. I’m not sure why, but Lieutenant Brine is lying to you.” The young nurse seemed a combination of confused, angry, and nervous.

Ensign Dabor Vak, Nurse

Tenkiller looked at the Nurse, then to the CMO for confirmation. “DAMMIT!” he exclaimed and then called for a site to site transport to the Lab, disappearing in the golden swirl of lights.

Tenkiller, CoS

Vak took a deep breath and seemed unsettled. “Sorry Doctor, if I handled that poorly. It isn’t appropriate for me to accuse a superior officer of lying.”

Ensign Dabor Vak, Nurse

Paige just looked at Dabor “You’re fine. I was getting to telling him where it was.” She said “If that is infact what they are looking for.” She sighed “What in the hell is going on around here.” She asked more to herself than anyone else. “Dabor you have medical for a few minutes. I’m going to the science labs and figure out what the hell is going on. If anything, and I mean anything happens, call me. I’ll be back immediately.”

CMO

“Yes, Doctor,” said Vak just before she left. How he hoped she was right that he hadn’t overstepped his authority. It just had seemed so odd that Toveka Brine of all people would say something untrue, particularly at a critical moment. He checked the vitals of the Klingon and did another scan of his brain.

Ensign Dabor Vak, Nurse

Paige came back into Sickbay looking like a cloud of thunder ready to explode on the first person that crossed her “Report?” She asked Dabor with a very matter of fact tone. She looked at the bio readings and could see that the Klingon remained stable or so it seemed.
