It was those words that did illicit a reaction from the Klingon female. The edge of her lips turned up almost in a sneer. “Now quiet and effective are words I see attributed to you, Mr Nikki.” She said and looked to her Captain for his reactions at this escalating into more than keeping an eye out for stuff. She knew how’d he feel without the ship and crew, or the station, to contend with. But this was something she wasn’t sure how he’d feel about.

“Oh come now Char,” Khain gave her a grin, “I know that the Khazad’hea is a little more unconventional than your normal Klingon Warship, but House Kholl has always been the dark horse of Klingon Houses.”

Reaching behind him, Khain drew the Kut’luch dagger from its sheath and placed it on the table. It was a Klingon weapon of assassins, of deals made in the dark and the symbol painted on the side of the Khazad’hea, the symbol of House Kholl. “We can do quiet and effective, it is especially effective when people think loud and raucous is the only language of the Klingons.”

Nikki eyed the dagger. It was a sweet thing. “In me days of me fathers the hits were much more direct with a lot more noise involved. Ye might say we moved from blue collar te white collar hits.” His eyes sparkled some. “I think it is simply a matter of doin both when the situation calls for it, don’t ye think? Right now the rats are quiet and happy. No sense stirrin up the nest until it is time to.”
- Nikki

Listening to the two of them and taking Khain’s chiding in stride, she finally nodded. “So what will you have me do, Captain?” She glanced at Nikki. “If anything has a way of tracking it, or of looking into logs where such things were supposedly ‘changed out’, I could take a look and see if anything is currently on the station, perhaps we can start there?” She looked from one to the other to see if they wanted to start now, or wait till morning after their drinking and comraderies.

While waiting for Khain to reply, Nikki pondered the situation. He was sure that he was being railroaded by some group on the station. Well, not just him. He was the one who sniffed it out not long after getting to this joint. It had begun before him, so nobody was making a hit on old Nikki but was something that had been going on before him. But for how long? It was no wonder the place was a rattling old fire trap of a station. Now he didn’t much give a round of Fizbin’s care about someone pulling the old nickel and dime trick on the Fleet. But what he did care about was his own reputation and name. Being a engineer on a tub like this was nothing to revel in the glory of, but he was not about to let it fall apart and someone else get rich over it. Follow the money … that was an idea. Who here was gettin some of the kickback beyond their pay?
- Nikki

“We’ll sleep on it, and address the challenge in the morning,” Khain replied with a low laugh as he picked up the dagger and put it away. “Mr Brako has more knowledge of who might be involved around here, and we might come across some information out there,” his head indicated the view port to space outside the station. “Of course, if any leads should pop up around here, we would be more than happy to help the investigation, sometimes people talk more freely around those not wearing Starfleet colors.” He took another drink of his beer.

Char nodded at the comment of looking more in the morning. “Yes, Captain.” She said and finished her drink before setting the glass on the bar. As she stepped back, she sized up Nikki once more. Perhaps there was more to him after all. The Captain did not suffer fools lightly, so the fact this had turned into more than a simple ‘drink for niceties sake and go’ kind of meeting made her think twice as well.

“And on that note,” Khain announced, he drained his beer and stood. “I had best get back to my ship! Char, you are off duty. Take a look around and have some fun! Till the morning, when the Hunt begins!” With a deep laugh, Khain turned for the door and adjusted belt of his uniform.
