Kane spoke up immediately while waving at the porter for another round. “Emergency Medical services are slow to respond. Well, slower than they should be. If we staged EMS kits in secure lockers in specific areas around the ship, Medical wouldn’t have to go to Sickbay to retrieve supplies before responding. It would save minutes on response time.”

Kane, Tac / Med

“Done! Damn good idea. Every second counts. Get with the CMO and make up a list that will be stationed at each locker. I want them standardized so the responders know exactly what is there. Then I want you to spearhead the project. It will be a good bullet on your annual review for promotion.” Chris looked around the table again. “Next.”

Chris

Mwezi thought for a moment. “Perhaps more varied combat training might benefit the crew. And not just the Security crew, but other personell. I think that everyone would benefit from training in self defense and martial arts,” he suggested. It was not so much a problem as it was a possibility for improving something that was already good.

Mwezi

“That’s another good idea. You haven’t been trained in Starfleet hand to hand but you have on your planet. Get with Lt. Stone and try to mix the two and plan on a five day class in Self Defense once every three months. Anything else?”

Chris

Jay normally tried to stay away from social gathering like these, but since he was new to the ship, he thought it would be a good way to get to know some people. Besides, hopefully someone picked up on his Irish-American heritage and managed to have some Guinness on hand. He took one last look in the mirror just to make sure everything looked acceptable. He was not vain by any means, but he did want to look presentable. He felt like the polo and jeans he was wearing would be acceptable. He made his way to the Wardroom and took a deep breath as the doors slid open. Walking in he addressed the group, “Hi everyone. I am Ensign Jay Westland and I was just assigned to the Chernov as the newest member of the medical staff.”

“Greetings Jay! I’m Chris. We don’t use rank in this room. The heavily tattooed gent over there is Solomon or Kane. I call him Kane but he will decide what you call him.” Chris smiled at that knowing Kane just might give this young new guy a scare.

“Over there is Mwezi. He is a.....a....a..I think I’ve been drinking too much rum. I forgot the word, but he is a transfer officer from the planet Galdor. They are interested in joining the Federation so they are testing the waters so to speak. Please have a seat and ask the Porter to get you a drink and meal dish of your choice.” The one eyed man said. He might not know that Chris was the XO since he was new here.

“Have you taken a tour of the ship yet?”

Chris
OOC: Pasting in Wes’s comment

IC: “Thank you Chris.” Jay said as he looked quickly around the room, taking in the surroundings and the others in the room.
“I haven’t had an official tour of the ship yet, but I have managed to find my way around, at east to the important areas. I know where sickbay is, and I know where to sleep, eat, and..use the bathroom.” Jay said trying to make a small joke and see how the others responded.

The wolf-like alien lifted a hand and waved to the newcomer. The best analogy he could give for context to his appearance would be to imagine a Caitian from the prime universe, but based on a wolf instead of a lion.

“Welcome to the Chernov,” he said cheerfully. “My race is called the Laleri, Commander,” he added, grinning at the XO for a moment. “Don’t worry, no matter how drunk I may get, I will not forget that you are called a human.”

Mwezi

OOC: Pasting in Wes’s response
IC: “Thank you for the warm welcome Mwezi, I appreciate it.”
Jay was intrigued by the Laleri and couldn’t wait to talk to Mwezi. Jay loved learning about other cultures and knew that the best way to learn was directly from someone who was a part of that culture. “I look forward to talking with you. I love to learn about other cultures, if you don’t mind sharing.” He nodded to Mwezi in a small show of respect.

Mwezi nodded back in response. “I’m always willing to share about my people, as long as I get to learn about the Federation in return,” he said with a smile.

The first person indicated by Taggart was, indeed, heavily tattooed. His hands were covered, and the part of the forearms exposed by the pushed up sleeves of the grey hooded sweat-shirt (that had seen much better days and not nearly enough washes) were covered in various pictographs and colors, all of varying quality., leaving few small spots of unadorned flesh. The tattoos were again visible on his neck, what could be barely seen through the long hair that fell in an unkempt mass around the man’s head. Glaring eyes peered forth from the mane of hair that fell unnoticed across the man’s face, and a sneer flashed across his lips… or maybe it was a smile, but much too predatory in nature to be seen as friendly to those who had not dealt with the figure. Kane voice rolled out in a low growling manner. “Saw you when you checked in to Medical, newbie. Sit. Let’s see what that liver of yours is made of.” The invitation seemed more like a challenge than an actual welcoming gesture, but it was hard to tell coming from the man.

Kane, Tac / Med

Jay immediately knew what was going on here. He had spent enough time with Marines to know that everyone in the room was watching him to see how he reacted and responded to Kane. What a lot of people probably didn’t know is that people like Kane, are really his kind of people. He preferred dealing with people that knew who they were and didn’t really care what others thought about them and who spoke the honest truth.

“Thank you Solomon.” He said as he took a seat directly across the table from him. “Nice Ink, how long have you been working on it?” he said wondering how he would answer.

Turning toward the Porter Jay said, “I would really like a rare steak the size of my head and a single malt Scotch, neat. Don’t be stingy with the pour, I plan on being here a while.”

Ensign Wes Something, Doctor (Sorry I forgot your characters name.)

Travis

Kane looked at the newcomer and said simply “Never call me that again, and longer than than you would expect.” and then downed his whiskey and motioned the porter for another. He looked at Taggart, then Mwezi, and simply shook his head and gritted his teeth in annoyance.

Kane, Tac / Med

“Well,” thought Jay, “this is going to be an interesting evening.”
“My apologies,” Jay said to Kane lifting his glass. He then quickly downed his Scotch and handed his glass back to the porter. “Do me a favor and make sure this glass stays full as long as I am here tonight.”
What the hell. Either he would pass out and make a fool of himself and become a good funny story for people to tell, or he might just be able to go the distance. Besides it had been a long time since he had drank like that with anyone. It was quite common for him to do it by himself however.

Ensign Jay Westland, Doctor.

Mwezi ordered a drink. “Something strong, surprise me,” he said to the barman, who nodded and got the alien a strong drink. Mwezi tossed back the first few mouthfuls of the drink, then placed it down, blinking slightly. “Whooo! That is strong!”

Mwezi
