Kane turned and looked at her, his eyes more open and relaxed than most anyone had ever seen. “T’Aria, that’s the thing. I’m not uncomfortable around you. I don’t feel like I have to fight. And doll, I feel like I have to fight everyone.” and he turned to fully face her. “But not you. Not from the first moment I saw you in your office when I got here. You just made me feel… comfortable. And that’s something I don’t I’ve ever actually been.” and he cocked his head to the side slightly. “Does that make sense to you?”

“I should.. hope,” The word tasted odd, an uncertainty for her use of it briefly plaguing her features, if even only the slightest furrow of her eyebrow gave it away. “Yes, hope, you never feel as if you have to fight me, Kane.” Falling silent, she found she did understand what he was saying, a rarity that had become more common, the longer she listened to him. “Affirmative,” She responded, out of habit, leaning to the cushion of the chair, until her back was properly alligned with it. “In all sincerity, your feeling is reciprocated. You are one of the few people that does not warrant the same external facade, as do the others.” She explained, briefly. “It must be peculiar, feeling at ease when you are accustomed to constantly feeling the urge to pull up a sheild or defend yourself against others.” She seemed to sympathize, in her own emotionless way. “Perhaps, in the future, that feeling will change and morph into something better.”

Dr. T’Aria

Kane watched her closely, listened to her as she spoke. He thought he could feel what she was saying more than actually hear it. He let he r words linger for a moment and then said “I think it is already, and that’s whats throwing me.” and he leaned in closer to her, but not too close, and said “But don’t worry, doll. I’ll be fine. As long as you are.” and then he grinned and said “And they don’t try and transfer you without me.” He suddenly released a great deal of tension, and he rolled his shoulders slightly to loosen his knotted up muscles.

“Wow. I don’t think I have said that much to anyone in years.” and he smiled a genuine smile. “I’m glad we are here, T’Aria. Can’t think of anywhere else I’d like to be.” and he picked up his mostly empty glass and held it to her. “Or anyone else I’d like to be with.”

Kane

“Command would be bold to transfer one of us, without the other.” T’Aria remarked, but she knew Command would do whatever they needed to as to maintain a starship with a full, efficient crew. Although, the Chernov seemed set for her medical department; Sickbay performing at peak efficiency, when not littered with Ensigns trying to get out of maintainance duties in Engineering.

T’Aria could sense the tension leaving his body in a wave of quick release, the thickness of the air slowly dissipating with it. Reaching over, she retrieved her glass, holding it gently between her fingers, as if it were a fragile artifact. “Nor can I,” She agreed. Kane would not be her first relationship, for she had once been betrothed to Soril, a Vulcan Scholar. However, Kane was the first person to ever elicit a spark within her, to ever make her feel something. She wasn’t certain what it was yet, as it remained hidden beneath the tempestuous waves of her emotional blockade. Yet in her ignorance to the truth of how she felt, she knew the feeling was pleasant, even if it bore no name.

“Thank you,” She began, without any context, at first. Glancing down at the glass in her hands, its base still filled with the tainted liquid, she continued. “You have already given me more in a single evening, than many have in the years I have known them.” Her gaze caught the chronometer, but the time made no difference to her. “As simple as logical prediction can be, I admit, I have little sense of where our relationship will lead. Although, it does seem to have a positive outcome, at some point in the future.”

“It is quite late for most humans, you are more than welcome to stay here for as long as you want, or I could walk with you back to your quarters, should you wish to turn in for the evening.” She offered, knowing human sleep schedules to be a fragile thing.

T’Aria

Kane chuckled. “We are definitely gonna have to work on your clarity of asking me to spend the night or get the hell out.” he said with a genuine grin of happiness. It was odd, but actually pleasant, to see on his face. Following her eyes, he said “Yeah, I suppose it is late. Although I don’t sleep much, just so you know.” and he finished his drink and set the glass down on the down on the table. He looked at her and said “And I think we have done enough soul searching for our first date.” and he laughed slightly and shook his head, his hair swinging slightly all over. He then looked at her and smiled. “You want to know something? This was the best night I can remember having.” and he slowly stood up.

Kane

“Clarity, I suppose, is not a strong suit.” T’Aria admitted, setting her glass upon the table, making a note to have them sterilized later, for further use. His smile was an anomaly she had never seen before tonight, unless it held a viciousness towards another officer, which was hardly a smile rather than a somewhat maniacal grin. It was an oddity, but rather than creating uneasiness in the air, it seemed to add to the simplicity of the evening.. in everything but their complex conversation. Rising to her feet, she could not help but agree. His company had been far better than that of her PaDDs and studies. “I agree. Perhaps this will not be the last of pleasant evenings, yes?”

T’Aria

Kane looked at her for a few long moments and then stepped close to her. He wasn’t all that much taller than she was, so he could maintain his look as he moved closer to her. “No. It will not be the last by a long shot.” he said softly and then leaned slowly to side and kissed her cheek, his lips lightly brushing against her skin. Standing up straight, he said “You just let me know when you’d like to have another pleasant evening. I’ll be here.” and he smiled softly at her and moved to the door.
