Chris followed the Captain and the Admiral tip the Captains quarters and waited to go in wondering what was going on.

Commander Chris Taggart XO

Reaching his quarters Stovik led the way in and indicated his desk chair to the Admiral in case he wished to use it. He himself would remain standing. Which he did with his hands held behind his back, wondering if what the Admiral had to tell him was anything like what they had gone through with Loring.

Captain Stovik

Admiral Beymer gestured to a seat, “Captain, Commander why don’t we sit down. Im here to both brief you and accompany you on a new assignment. But I believe this will be the most difficult mission for the both of you personally that you have ever embarked on.” Looking at the Captain, “Captain your about to be asked to do something that most Captains would refuse, it’s a sacrifice that I can never before recall happening like this” Looking to the Commander, “Commander, after this meeting your life will never be the same again.”

Auto Correct fix

Stovik raised his eyebrow at that cryptic statement. There were two other chairs near a table area under the viewport. Stovik paused to let Taggart choose his. “That is a profound statement, Admiral. I am here to serve.” He said with a slight bow of respect that was entirely Vulcan.

Captain Stovik

Chris nodded to the Captain and took the chair furthest away. “I understand Admiral. ” Chris said sitting down. “Just as long as there aren’t any teeth pulling involved. ” While rubbing his jaw. “I’m here to serve Starfleet, Admiral so I’ll do what I can. “

Commander Chris Taggart XO

The admiral nodded his head. “As the Captain has already figured out by now the guests that I brought with me were Vulcan. What I am about to brief you is to be classified at the utmost levels.” The Admiral paused and studied the officers “There of course were vulcans that survived the event on vulcan. Those were all off world. Right now the Vulcans are attempting to create a new home world named New Vulcan. Your mission for the forseeable future will be to assist them as best possible.” The admiral shifted slightly.

Stovik listened gravely, none of what the Admiral had just related was unknown to him or unsurprising so he waited quietly to here the unknown part.

“Captain, as you know there are members of star fleet that are Leary of Vulcan. They felt that it would be inappropriate to have a Vulcan command this mission. Command has asked that you step down as Captain, with a full grade reduction to Commander and take the position of XO.” Holding up his hand before the Captain could speak.

Stovik’s eyebrow did raise at that point but he did not interrupt. Why would having a Vulcan as Captain be detrimental was the first thought that came to him and his thoughts immediately looked for the logical reason for that.

“Commander you are hereby relieved of your position as the Executive Officer of this vessel. You will stand fast in the meeting and pay VERY close attention to every detail”

Chris was shocked by that. It just sounded too him that he was now fired and had no place to go. But since the Admiral still told him to stay in a very classified meeting, meant there were other plans involved.

The admiral looked to the Captain for a response to the request.

GM

“Why would having a Vulcan Captain be detrimental in assisting the Vulcans on New Vulcan?” Stovik asked. He wasn’t about to step aside unless the Admiral gave a very compelling reason why. He had no concerns that Taggart couldn’t lead the Chernov as well as he could but he felt that there had to be a more compelling reason as to why they were requesting this.

Captain Stovik

“Very well Admiral. I’ll step aside but I agree with the Captain. I thought we had a great relationship with Vulcan?”

Commander Chris Taggart XO

The admiral shifted in his seat taking a breath, “First of all, both of you need to understand that I did not agree with this action but I really had no options, it came directly from the top. When we first started pushing into space there were many who felt that the Vulcans were trying to control what we did and how we did it. Captain Archer of the first Enterprise broke many barriers. That may have been over a hundred years ago but there are still those in Command that have those misgivings. The Vulcan delegation that came on board also had the same thoughts as to the command change that Command did. The fact is both of you have a part to play in the success of the Vulcan people. I won’t say more right now until we have concluded with the formalities of this but this is not a simple easy mission. It may be very long in nature.” The admiral paused and a look of sadness showed for a brief moment “I will remind the both of you that you are duty bound to follow the wishes of Command, you both took a oath to do so.”

The admiral did not want to continue with the course of action, but if this was not done quickly the mission could be put in jeopardy. Every minuet would count and they still needed the delegation to begin briefings.

GM

“I understand Admiral. So what is it you wish for me or us to do?”

Commander Chris Taggart XO

“If we both step down, who will command the Chernov during the mission?” Stovik asked plainly. He could accept the reasons that the Admiral gave for him not to command but why not Taggart then?

Captain Stovik

bumping this back on the boards so Phil can find it when he returns:)

Bump for GM per his thread.

The Admiral shifted, “Commander Taggart would take command, you would serve as his executive officer.” The admiral stood and walked to the view port. Turning to so he was looking at both of them. “The fact is Captain I was apposed to this, but I was overruled. I believed that you could serve as the Captain for this mission without any problems, command may not like me reminding you of this but I have no reason to actually relieve you of command. This is your choice, along with the choice of Commander Taggart.”

OOC: Since I was gone for so long I am going to try and push this as hard as I can so we can actually move forward.. Sorry for the LOA

GM

Chris looked shocked and puzzled away the same time and stood up. “Wait a minute Admiral. You want ME to be the captain and HIM”… pointing to Stovik…”to be MY XO? So he can do this secret squirrel mission? I’d like to refresh your memory of the duties of an Executive Officer. They are to take command of the ship if something happens to the Captain. They run the day to day activities of the ship to free up the captain. They manage all the Department Heads for the captain. They look out and support the captain and other things. So just how is he supposed to be the XO if he is either busy with the mission or on assignment for the mission? How am I supposed to run this ship without one? Appoint a second officer for the books but in reality they will be the true XO? I’m all for helping but did the geniuses at the think tank bother to really look into this or is it one of those shut up and color things?”

Stovik’s brow rose,” I am quite capable of seeing to the duties of XO while taking part in an away mission.” He said mildly. He appeared to be pondering everything that the Admiral had said.

He looked at Stovik with a sad eye. “All of those years of training and for what? To be made a commanding officer of a battle cruiser proving yourself over and over again to Starfleet only to have your command, rank, dignity and integrity taken away from you. “

He looked back at the Admiral. “I will only take command if CAPTAIN Stovik says so and does sho willingly. Not by an order. I will not go and get my box of crayons to please some stiff suit in a stuffy, big office. To think someone like Captain Stovik could not be trusted is complete and utter bulls##t!....Sir.” Chris sat back down and let out a long breath. He knew he overstepped his bounds but it had to be said.

Commander Chris Taggart XO

The Admiral smirked, at least the commander was willing to stand up for his people, turning to the Captain, “As I said I will not force this issue unless it is willingly from you Captain, You’ve done a hell of a job with this ship. Its your choice what you do”

GM

Stovik frowned but nodded once.”If Command feels that it is necessary to give Chernov a human Captain for the success of this mission I will of course, step aside. Are we going to be given details on the mission itself?” He asked. Despite not living among or serving his own people during the course of his career, Stovik was dedicated to serving his people by being a conduit between the humans and Vulcans in Starfleet. If the Admiral said that it was necessary for the success of the mission, he would not gain say him.
