A lot had been bothering Adira since the end of their last mission, but what bothered her most was how Stovik had reacted when Loring revealed the status of the mission. His thoughts couldn’t have been far from hers or any other person on the ship. Adira took a deep breath as she approached the captain’s quarters. She tried to calm herself as she rang the chime, and waited.

Lt.(j.g.) Givens, sec/intell

Stovik had been sitting at his desk trying to finalize the report for Command when his door chimed. He sat up and blinked for a moment as his attention returned to the here and now.

He had not spent much time with his crew since arriving at Risa, preferring to oversee the repairs on board or on his few off hours, meditating.

The last scenes with Loring haunted both his waking and sleeping hours despite the time he had spent meditating, trying to come to terms with what he had felt.

His youth on Vulcan had taught him to face and control his emotions so they did not control him. It was the guiding tenant of his people and had been his for all his long years. It was inherent in the career in Healing that he had chosen as well.

With a start he realized he had left whoever had chimed standing before his door for too long and he rose and walked over to the door panel which he toggled to trigger the door to open.

Givens stood on the other side and Stovik’s brow rose in inquiry, “Lieutenant? “

Captain Stovik

Adira stood before the Captain with a bootleged bottle of dark liquid in her hand. “Could we talk?” Her voice was a soft whisper that protrayed everything that she felt.

Givens sec/intell

Stovik blinked, totally thrown off balance as he looked at the liquor and then back at Givens. He studied her face closely trying to decipher what
this was about. He finally decided that she might be a bit drunk and he saw a hint of desperation in her eyes. His old Healer instincts kicked in and over rode his natural Vulcan sense of propriety.

“Lieutenant, I think you’d better step in. Are you alright?” He added as he stepped back to allow her entry.

Captain Stovik

Adira stepped just inside the door and shook her head, “No I’m not okay, and I wasnt sure where else to go.”

Tears started to give way to what she was really feeling. “It was just to real, and i cant process it”

Givens, sec/intell

Stovik frowned in concern as he held out a hand toward his desk chair.”Please, Lieutenant come in and sit down.” He waited until she got herself seated and to see if she would be able to compose herself somewhat before asking.
“Process what happened with Loring, you mean?” He asked thinking to himself that he should have expected this. If he was having a hard time processing the events that took place, how could he expect his crew to have?

Captain Stovik

She took a deep breath and tried to calm her self. She tried to concentrate on the captain in front of her and not the memories of the things that Loring had put thwm all through. “It is captain.”

Lt.(j.g.) Givens

Stovik nodded as he turned and made his way over to his bed and sat down, facing Givens. He frowned slightly as he contemplated what to say next, how could he assist her? He had faced this situation many times while he was a Healer. Sometimes it was necessary to heal the mind to have the body heal.
“Which memories or events seem to be the ones most troubling you, Givens?” He asked.

Captain Stovik

“The death of our crew!” She said as the image of her friends flashed before her eyes. She whinced as she begin to speak again “if it was all a holoimage why go to those lengths to cause hurt among the crew?” She questioned. “It doesnt make sense.”

Lt.(j.g.) Givens, sec/intell

Stovik sighed heavily,”Indeed it does not. If it was only a holo test why allow the death of crew? That would seem to go against all of Starfleet’s tenants. But I get the sense that this Section 31 works outside of Starfleet and given the evidence of this ‘test’, it would seem logically so. I think that they had an agenda that Loring wasn’t telling us.”

Captain Stovik

Just hearing him say it made Adira’s blood boil with rage for someone she once loved with every ounce of who she was. She took a moment to regain control of the emotions that she felt. Several deep breaths later she looked over at Stovik with a look that betrayed hurt and anger. “I should have know he was up to no good the moment he stepped foot on this ship sir, and for that im sorry.”

“You have nothing to be sorry about, Lieutenant. The crew is my responsibility. The choice to go along with Loring was mine.” Stovik said heavily.

She wasnt sure how to how to continue “what about you sir are you okay?” Even as she said she it she knew the answer. Adira could see it in his eyes.

Lt.(j.g.) Givens, sec/intell

“I will be, I am sure. I think this is the first time that my position as Captain has put me in such a situation. One may know that one’s decisions effect others until one faces the possibly deadly consequences of those decisions. One does not how it can effect one.” His deep set eyes looked even deeper and had dark green shadows around them. As if he had not been sleeping well which indeed he had not been. It was also obvious that he was speaking in the third person to distance himself a little from his feelings.

Captain Stovik

Adira got up and made her way over to the door and put in her security code locking the captian’s door. She wanted to make sure there would be no outside interference. She walked back over to the captain and took a deep breath she knew what she wanted to say but wasnt sure just how to say it.

Stovik’s brow raised as he watched Adira look the door.

She sighed “I know Vulcans feel emotions, but choose not to express them, but you are dragging your self down and I cant let that happen. You are feeling and probably going through everything I am, and without the proper release of that” she stopped for a moment before continuing “I want to help you though this for my benefit as well as yours, but I need to know how I can help you?”

Givens, sec/intell

“Vulcan’s do not release our emotions, we use meditation as a tool to work through them and understand them. That is not an exercise that can be shared, Lieutenant. There is nothing that you can do.” He rose then and moved over to a cabinet and picked up two glasses, he then returned to where Adira was sitting and picking up her bottle of liquor poured a shot into both glasses. He handed one to her and took a sip from the other.
“We can discuss it though if you think that would help.”

Captain Stovik

” What if this is something meditation and understanding just wont solve.” she said as she took her own cup and took a sip of her own drink. Adira had found a long time ago that no matter what species one was that it was never good holding in such emotion. She found that it would eventually drive one beyond the point of return.

Lt. (J.G.) Givens

Stovik shrugged as he filled his own glass with a quarter of the whiskey and setting down the bottle he took his own sip. “It is my understanding with humans that it is necessary to work through emotional issues. From the time we are young children, Vulcans are taught to face their emotions logically. That by accepting the emotion and setting it aside enables one to move past it. That does not mean that it is an easy exercise but I have found that it usually is sufficient. I think that perhaps this is one of those instances when time heals all wounds, as said by a very wise woman of your planet.”

Captain Stovik

“Time we may not have before our next mission begins” she said taking a sip of the aged almost to perfection whiskey. For a moment she wished Loring had stayed on the ship. She was sure she would have already used him as a punching bag several times over and shot him out the air lock.
