The admiral nodded, “A few things before we begin, First of all, we need to secure communications, the only communications that are allowed will require one of the three of our authorizations, and for that matter I will not be authorizing any communications unless I am speaking to command. This is your ship and I apologize for the inconvenience of having me aboard. Once all communications are secured give the order to set course for the area that Vulcan once was. We will begin the briefing with your senior officers and yourself as soon as we can.”

The admiral turned to the commander, and pulled out a small box “Commander put this in your pocket until the promotion Ceremony.”

GM

“Roger that. ” Chris said solemnly and put the box in his pocket. “I’ll go secure communications and set the course and meet you in the Captain’s Nest. May I be excused Admiral?”

Commander Chris Taggart XO

Stovik nodded and led the Admiral out of his quarters and down the corridor to the Captain’s Mess which was indeed slightly larger in square footage then his quarters. The table was large enough to allow for 15 guests at one time. It also had the added benefit of having its own galley and cook. Who, Stovik contacted quickly while the Admiral and he waited for the XO and the Admiral’s team. He ordered up both human coffee, Vulcan tea as well as various light foods that both species liked to eat. He then offered the Admiral a seat.

Captain Stovik (Outgoing)

Chris came strolling back in. He saw Captain Stovik first. “Sir. The bridge is taken care of, course set and wet are under way. I made Lt JG Givins acting CoS until we appoint a new one and something else that just now left my head…I hate wh…oh! I have instructed to have updates on our arrival time and have locked communications if it is not one of us three and to have any and all messages sent directly to the Admiral. “

He saw the porter. “Can I have not only a big cup of coffee but a thermos as well? I’m afraid I’m going to need it. Cheers mate. “

Commander Chris Taggart XO

The Steward nodded as he set down the tray of coffee and Vulcan tea and mugs before disappearing to go get the thermos of coffee and finger foods.

Steward

When the porter was gone Chris looked sty the captain. “We really need to do something for the porter. I know he is like a professional butler but I feel like I treat him like a servant sometimes. Ddp you know what he would like Captain? A bonus, gold watch, paid vacation, a combination of all of the above? Any ideas?” He poured himself a cup of coffee with creamer then looked at the Admiral. “Want me to pour you a cup of Joe sir?”

Commander Chris Taggart XO

Stovik blinked as he looked at his XO with incomprehension before frowning.”Is that a human custom?” He finally asked.

Captain Stovik

After pouring the Admiral a drink Chris sat back down and smiled as he looked at the Captain. “In a way, yes. Some business practices of old would reward long and special service with gifts that befit the cause. It is not unlike how the military gives ribbons and medals for certain acts that are similar. I would like to give him a recommendation along with a gift of some kind. Since he’s not actually Starfleet like us but employed by it. I know. After I present him with a letter of recommendation I give him an all expenses paid trip to a destination of his choosing for two weeks. ” That brought a big smile to his face. “Yes. Now I just have to be sly about asking him where he would like to go top the most....... had he mentioned anything to you sir?”

Commander Chris Taggart XO

Stovik blinked,”No, Commander I am afraid we do not discuss such things. I really do not know much about his life other then his work here.” Stovik said as he took a seat then, glancing at the Admiral who was unusually silent. He could only assume that the Admiral was awaiting the arrival of his cohorts and thinking about the upcoming mission.

Captain Stovik

“It’s ok Captain. I’ll just ask him when he comes in. ” The Admiral was quiet. Chris wondered what he was thinking about when the porter came back in. “Hello God sir. I was sitting here thinking to myself that I don’t really know anything about you but you know a lot about me. I was wondering, if you could go anywhere in this universe, where would it be and why? I can get a good picture of a man by where he likes to go. For instance my favorite place used to Risa until my accident. Now I’m good to go in a small cabin in the woods by a lake going fishing. ” He picked up his drink and sipped on it.

Commander Chris Taggart XO

The hooded figures stepped into the room, the admiral stood quickly and met with them. “May I present to you the command staff of the Chernov”.....

GM

Stovik stood and gave a half bow in greeting to the hooded figures. “I am Captain Stovik. Live long and prosper,” He added with the traditional Vulcan salute.

Captain Stovik

Chris stood when the Admiral did and after the admiral and Captain spoke, Chris gave a medium bow and said, “Pleased to meet you all. My name is Chris. “

Commander Chris Taggart XO

Bump for GM.

Travis

The vulcans nodded as thier bow. “Admiral have you given them a brieifing, I see that Stovik is still the Captain, has she decided not to step down?” The vulcans stood not moving towards the table, as if this answer would determine the entire mission.

GM

Stovik’s brow raised before he glanced at Taggart and then the Admiral. “We have agreed to make the transfer in command, we have just had time to do so yet. I was not aware it was so urgent to do it at once. We thought it more pertinent to obtain the information on the mission that is required then once we are underway to effect the transfer of command. Is this acceptable?” He asked, wondering why the Vulcans had chosen to not identify themselves as was customary by Vulcan’s natural courtesy.

Captain Stovik

The Vulcan that had spoken stepped forward and removed the hood, “Captain Stovik, formalities have been taken from me, My name is Tivyn” He motioned to the figure standing next to him “This is Mulvas” The figure lowered his hood and slightly bowed, “This” Motioning to the third figure “is T’suth” three of us are all that is left of the Vulcan High Command, we were off world when the great attack occurred on our home world.” Tivyn motioned to the table “Shall we sit, we have brought Spiced tea with us” Mulvas produced from under his robes a Vulcan tea pot. It was plain but ornate at the same time, like most would describe a Vulcan.

GM

Chris was amazed. He thought they were all dead. He bowed back at them and sat where they didn’t soooo they could be close to whomever they wanted.

Commander Chris Taggart XO

Captain Stovik was motionless in what was obviously surprise, and his eyes had widened slightly. The only other sign that he had been caught by surprise. He blinked then bowed again, this time deeper as a sign of greater respect.”I ask for pardon and I grieve with thee.” Stovik said offering the traditional Vulcan response to tragedy and loss.”We were told that you all were lost in the attack.” He moved over to the table then after motioning to steward to bring hot water for the tea.

Captain Stovik

The three Vulcans moved to the table, prior to pulling out the chairs they all three bowed. As they took their chairs allowing for the Captain and XO to be seated towards the head of the table. The steward entered and set the pot on the table, Mulvas reached out and took the pot, placing the tea in a ornate gold colored tea ball, he then began slowly dipping the tea ball in the hot water, looking up “there are limited quantities left of our traditional spiced tea, only those in personal reserves are left.” after dipping the ball exactly 83 times Mulvas carefully poured each person a cup of the tea. T’suth finally spoke breaking what could have been a deafening silence. Her voice was high in note but pleasant.

“With the destruction of our homeworld we have collected data on how many of our people have survived. With transports and other missions off world we currently believe that there are 18,000 Vulcans left in the entire universe. Every Vulcan is now important to the survival of our race. It is estimated that the majority of the surviving Vulcans are either Pre Pon Far or of a suitable fertility age. With this we believe that there is hope of rebuilding our people. Buried deep inside the High Command Complex was a vault that contained every piece of information that has ever been found by the High Command. This vault was made of a rare extremely strong alloy which we believe has survived the destruction of our world. But there are some complications....”

GM

Stovik winced inwardly as he felt a pang of guilt at never having sired a child. At his age pon far was a much less frequent occurrence and for him it had never really reasserted itself after his two time travelling experience. It was if his molecular structural had been altered irrevocably. He had never had the curiosity to study the reasons for it further. “Pieces of information such as? “ he asked curiously.

Captain Stovik

The three Vulcans looked at one another, “Simply as stated, every sensor scan or record from the entire history of Vulcan. Approximately 400 Years ago a Teraform mission was undertaken by the Command in order to create a ‘second Vulcan’. We are not sure what the goal is, but there may very well be a planet that is almost identical to our world hidden in the stars. The information that is contained in these records is highly sensitive. The main reason that we requested you Captain to become the XO is so that you could lead the Away Teams and help preserve the integrity of the information.”

GM

[OOC: this is Kirk Era, Captains regularly lead away teams]
- Miriam
OOC: I’ll wait to answer this in case Phil has any changes to make. Heh Miriam is quite correct in that in this era the CO quite often led the away teams. Or at least Kirk did, I am not entirely sure if this was a blanket move by all CO’s at the time. Phil could easily just decide Kirk is an aberration:)

Krys

OOC: Spock reminded Kirk multiple times that regulations recommended against this. In Enterprise Tvol mentions that that Vulcan Captains would not lead a Away Mission as it is illlogical to put the Captain at risk.. I only makes sense the Vulcans feel this way.

GM

“Logical. So we are to go to Old Vulcan and find this data.” He stated summing up the mission parameters. “We can do so. Would you like to conduct the Command change over on the bridge before we depart, Admiral?”

Captain Stovik

The Admiral paused, “There are other factors that you need to be aware of. The High Command has not released information on this,” Admiral Beymer looked directly at the Vulcans “but it has been long suspected that there is a link of some sort between the Vulcans and the Romulans. Long range surveillance of the area detected a de-cloaked Romulan ship in the containment area. The Orions have also been poking around hoping to find something of value in the area. We are not sure what the Romulan’s or the Orions will do once we are in the area.”
