Chris smiled at Kane and put up a finger to have him wait a second. He put the box lid back on the awesome gift that T’Aria just gave him and put it on a table with a bunch of things under a white sheet that covered the table. He felt around until he found the box he wanted and looked inside to make sure. It was the right one. Coming back to Kane he handed him the box.

“I thought of you one day and looked up these things since your from New Detroit. I wanted to give you a small token of appreciation for the friendship that we have. It hasn’t been easy but I’m glad you have been there for me. Like the times we beat up that officer, spent time in jail, went on our little excursion, and faking out those two med officers with a fake disease just to name a few things. “

The box contained a black Detroit Tigers baseball cap with a white D on the front and a red jungle themed Hawaiian shirt with birds on it. The shirt Kane would recognize as the famous one Tom Selleck wore in Magnum P.I..

Kane looked at the items handed to him and then looked up and glared at Taggart. “You son of a -” and he bit off the last part and stormed away without a word.

Chris was shocked and taken aback. He could have sworn he knew his friend would have loved the gifts.

Less than a minute later, he returned wearing the shirt and the cap; his hair partially tucked back underneath it. “This doesn’t mean we are taking long walks on the beach and holding hands while the sun sets.”

Kane, Tac / Med

When Kane came back Chris smiled then laughed a hearty laugh when he saw Kane come back and spoke to him. “We will keep the beach trips to Risa on the back burner for now then. ” He laughed again.

Captain Chris Taggart CO

He knew he was late. Definitely late. However, it was very difficult to find shirts in his size in the commission room. The NE in charge of the room had finally found a shirt that was almost the right size, although it was a little wide on the stomach area and a little tight on his shoulders, and Mwezi had rushed over to the Captain’s Mess to have that meal with Taggart. When he didn’t find the new Captain there, Mwezi experienced some confusion. He had been invited here, and was now standing in a rather uncomfortable shirt that did not fit him, and Taggart was not there. He blinked a few times, then turned and headed out of the Captain’s Mess.

A quick trip to the uniform commissions room, and Mwezi was changed once more. Now in his old uniform shirt, with the ends of the sleeves of a new shirt sewed over the ends of his old sleeves. It would have to do for now. He growled slightly, annoyed at himself. Why hadn’t Taggart been in the Captain’s Mess? He glanced at his U.R.I. and noticed with alarm that there was an unread message from the new Captain, telling him of the change of plans - they would be meeting in the Lounge instead. The alien officer picked up the pace, nearly running as he approached the lounge, stopping a few moments before he arrived, and panting a little before calming himself and stepping into the lounge.

“Captain,” T’Aria spoke in a low voice, subtly gesturing to Mwezi. “I do believe the officer of your event has arrived.”

Dr. T’Aria
CMO

Chris looked over. “Yes. Thank you doctor. Please excuse me for a moment.” He strode over to Mwezi. “Sorry for the confusion. I had to keep you busy so I could decorate. ” He stood with a smile. Gesturing with his cybernetic arm to the room. “Please go mingle, have some hor’durves or however it is pronounced (or spelled) and we’ll get started soon. “

Captain Chris Taggart CO

Mwezi nodded quietly. “The deception was not appreciated, Captain,” he spoke with a slight twinge of annoyance visible on his face before turning to ‘mingle’ as Taggart had said.

Chris looked hurt and grabbed his arm to pull him back. “I’m sorry my friend. I truly do. I will not make excuses. Just as I don’t know anything about your promotion ceremony, you don’t know ours. It was meant with the best of intentions. I forgot you don’t know our customs. Again. I’m truthfully sorry. “

Mwezi nodded curtly, glancing away for a moment. “Deception is extremely rare in my culture, Captain. We do not lie.” He glanced back at Chris, then reached over to pull his hand off his arm. “I am going to mingle.”

Before he left Chris said softly and solemnly “I’m truly sorry. It won’t happen again. I promise you. “

Kane looked over at Mwezi and yelled above the conversations “About time, Warren!” Why he called Mwezi by that moniker was yet to be understood.

Kane, Tac / Med

Mwezi’s ear flicked a little, but he did not respond otherwise to Kane’s new nickname for him. He stepped over to the table of hors d’oeuvres and picked up a mini grilled cheese sandwich and munched on it quietly.

Stovik wandered over to the food table with the others and scanned it see if there were eatables on it that he could eat. Fortunately humans were quite fond of raw vegetables at these type of events so he easily found a variety of them with some bread like pastries that were filled with cheese and other vegetable material. He filled a plate and picked up a glass of water.

Commander Stovik

Mwezi, sec

Bump

Ensign Jacobs had been drinking blood wine since they had arrived at the party, This was a special day and he had never tried the stuff before! Soon he was walking over to Mwezi, his speech was horribly slurred and Jacobs was stumbling about. “Well you son of a targ… how did you convince someone that you should be promoted” Jacobs belched loudly “Hell Lieutenant” (Hickup) “Junior Grade ain’t nothing,” (Hickup) “Ive made J.G. four times and Lieutenant TWICE”.... the officer who would not be described as young took another drink of the beverage. Thrusting the bottle toward’s Mwezi “HeRe HaS aw DrInK” as Jacobs waited for Mwezi to take the bottle he looked towards the windows and noticed an officer holding a bottle out just like him, and he appeared to be staring at Jacobs! “wHaT dooo, YoUz LoOkIn aT!”

GM

Mwezi quietly put his massive hand over that of Ensign Jacobs and gently pulled the bottle from his hand. He placed the bottle off to the side. “Ensign Jacobs, I believe you need to rest,” he spoke, his voice deep. Yellow eyes met those of the human man.

Stovik had filled his plate and was standing near the tables while eating when his attention was caught by the drunken voice of the Ensign. He frowned as his gaze traveled the lounge until they found the man talking to Mwezi. Stovik turned and set his plate down on the edge of his table before wiping his mouth as he began to make his way over to the pair.

Commander Stovik

Chris had no time for this crap. He already hurt the guest of honor feelings. “Security. Exit this man back to his quarters. “

Mwezi gently led Jacobs to another security officer, talking to him calmly all the way until the man was out of the room. “As the captain said, NE Richardson. Back to his quarters. NE T’pak, please give Richardson a hand,” he added, glancing towards a Vulcan female.

Stovik stopped in surprise at the Captain’s swift actions, blinked, and then watched him climb up to the stage.

Once that was done. Chris got up on the stage. “Everyone. Can I have your attention please. Today we are going to celebrate a couple of promotions. First I wasn’t too welcome up on stage with me Commander Stovik whom will help me in presenting. Then I would like for Ensign Mwezi to come up. “

Eyebrow raising in curiosity, Stovik calmly walked forward and climbed up to stage. He turned then and faced the crew, about to clasp his hands in front of him he started as the Captain thrust a box at him. He accepted the box and handed it to Taggart when he signaled for it.

Mwezi quietly stepped up to the stage and stood a little stiffly next to the captain. Nearly seven feet tall, the lupine officer certainly towered over Chris and Stovik. His ears twitched, and he listened.

Once he was up Chris took a box from Stovik and presented it to Mwezi. “Ensign Mwezi it is with great pride that I give you this box and the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. And name you Chief Weapons Officer!”

Captain Chris Taggart CO

Stovik nodded towards Mwezi, “Congratulations, Lieutenant.”

Commander Stovik

Mwezi nodded, taking the box and holding it for a moment before slowly opening it up on the stage. He genuinely wasn’t sure what to expect.
