Deggur arrived on the Chernov via shuttlecraft, making his way through the halls until he eventually found the Chief Science Officer’s office. He got several looks as he walked with purpose to meet with his direct superior. He supposed it was strange for an Orion male to be on a Federation starship, and wearing the telltale blue of the Sciences division, to boot. He smirked to himself, and when he caught a few of the crewmates staring at him, he decided to growl. His teeth were cleaner than most Orions, but he had the incisors sharpened for intimidation purposes.

At the office, he pressed the call button on the pad and growled, not realizing he hadn’t softened his voice. “Ensign Deggur, reporting for duty.”

After almost half a minute a calm voice came from behind the door “Enter” The soft Scottish accent slightly muffled by the door. Upon opening the Ensign would see a thin young human in his early twenties sitting behind a small desk. He was turned slightly to the side and read something on his terminal with mild interest. He absentmindedly put his hand through his carefully parted chestnut hair before looking up “Ah, Mr Deggur. Have a seat” If he was surprised by the unusuality of his giant of an Orion Junior Officer he didn’t show it outwardly.

Deggur, graciously nodded as he looked slightly dismayed at the chair… he had a rather large frame and was unsure that the seat would hold him as it was built for whatever is considered to be average among Humans. He completely understood, of course. There weren’t many Orions in Starfleet, but that was slowly changing as his people pushed for more rights within the Federation. Realizing that he might be showing his disapproval of the seat on the face, Deggur wiped the expression from his eyes and attempted to sit. He tried not to put his entire weight onto the chair and it turned out to look fairly comical as he obviously looked uncomfortable.

Will raised an eyebrow as he looked at the Orion sitting down in the clearly uncomfortable seating “Well, welcome aboard Ensign, I’m Lieutenant William Grey your Department head. Now as you probably know the Chernov is a battlecruiser so we don’t get a lot of space here in the Science lab but we make do.” He said giving his console one last glance before turning the display off “So tell me a little about yourself, mostly your area of expertise, experience and reason for dedicating our life to science and Starfleet” He leaned back in his seat slightly and crossed his legs.

“Thank you, Lieutenant,” the ensign said as he shifted again in his seat. “I’m qualified for Geology, Biology, and Astrobiology as specialties, but I am learned in quite a few fields of study generally. I am always seeking out new opportunities to expand my knowledge in the science fields. Anything that would benefit the ship, and I’ll do my best to understand it. Obviously, there are only a few Orions in Starfleet right now, but more are joining every year. I want to do my best to become an influence to the people of my planet, so that they will know that there are real opportunities out there, outside of the Orion Syndicate and the private sector. That is the main reason I joined Starfleet. The promise to go out into the stars and explore strange new worlds and seek out new life and civilizations. I want to boldly go where no Orion has gone before…”

Deggur hadn’t noticed, but as he said this last bit, he stood up and was basically standing at attention, looking off into the distance.

-Ensign Deggur, Science

“Well… Quite” Will smiled at the Orion “Lofty goals, admirably so. Now I’m afraid I haven’t had time to look at your service record yet, that and I wanted to hear about it from you first.”
